So Automator's "sample" was basically just a remix at 1.25 speed with some bits switched around. An arrangement. That's cool I guess, it's something musicians have done since pretty much forever, but most professionals are usually expected to give credit where it's due, and put the original artist somewhere in the title (like Ralph Vaughn Williams' "Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis," or Rachmaninoff's "Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini," both of which, by the way, are far more distinct from their source material than Automator's "sample"). I can't complain much, since without Automator/Deltron 3030, I would've never been introduced to the amazing work of Sheller, and I do think Automator's remix is a very good one... because it stands squarely on the shoulders of this magnificent, groundbreaking original composition. Anyone saying this song was copy pasted into 3030 must be hard of hearing. Sounds were displaced and moved around as was the rest of the track not to mention it was sped up. If you really understood sampling like so many of your here are claiming then you would've recognized those changes and not be here crying up a storm over nonsense. Hip-hop DJ's have been doing that for years. Pull your self righteous bs somewhere else. Also Check out "Imaginary Places" by Bus Driver that too is called sampling.

@Frankydoesitalso there's a little bit more to it than that. artists have always inspired other artists. the practice of sampling (or "tunethiefing" if you prefer) in music traces back to early classical composers. i actually like it when great music by one artist inspires another artist to create more great music. but if you prefer to retain your narrow view of music be my guest.

@Frankydoesitalso It would actually be Dan the Automator who is the "tunethiefing" one, if you wanted to be so ignorant as to call him that. This is indeed an incredible piece of music, as is the song Del and Dan used it to make. If they hadn't sampled this beautiful song many of us would never have heard of William Sheller. Props to all of them, especially Sheller.
@glenlyons566311 жыл бұрын
My feelings exactly! All of Automator's stuff is basically stolen. Del and Koala should get all the props for making it "original". When i first got the 3030 record i was impressed with Automator because it said he did all the orchestra arrangements. Then i discovered this, and saw that it sounded great because of the work of people like William Sheller. Sampling is cool, but they should give credit where credit is due.

+shitsonitscody "Hardcore work" ? LOL I thought Deltron 3030 was made out of multiple samples and now I discover Automator's lack of creativity. Disappointed.

+shitsonitscody What I meant by multiple samples was that I thought he created the instrumental out of 4 of 5 different songs. (like DJ shadow does)

he did about as much work as doom does to his samples
Oh wow. I wasn't expecting it to be so similar to the 3030 opener. This is megafresh.
Definitely better than 3030.

True enough. I never would have discovered this amazing song if not for Dan the Automator's eclectic choices. It stands great on it's own, and it works amazing in "3030".

Beaucoup moins de monde et pourtant c'est un compositeur hors paire ! :)
tune-thiefing is a creative use of words.
Of course it is...it makes one think about it and it provokes reaction. You yourself, to take one, are a prime example of this...
Epic.........
deltron 3030♥
breathtaking. so this is what 3030 is based off of...
Aye yo its Three Thousand Thirty, I want yall to meet Deltron Zero and Automator!
This song needed to be sped up for Del to be able to rap on it.. This original version is good but I got used to Deltron
Deltron 3030! Yes Yes Y'all
Immit-(id)ation is the Greatest form of flattery . . . Sa -Roc, Lyrical Manifesto sample '72 salvadory.
anybody have a tab for the bass riff around 1:10-ish?
Deltron 3030 brought me here. What's weird is I can find tons of tracks with this name on Spotify but none are this song. Anyone know what's up with that? This song is a perfect blend of classical, choral, jazz, and funk.
Gives me space odyssey vibes
oh right, it's the vocal that makes it for me :) i'm not much help then! lol
@Frankydoesitalso there's a little bit more to it than that. artists have always inspired other artists. the practice of sampling (or "tunethiefing" if you prefer) in music traces back to early classical composers. i actually like it when great music by one artist inspires another artist to create more great music. but if you prefer to retain your narrow view of music be my guest.
its the year 3030, way past the millennium
yo its three thousand thirty
I'm pretty sure Sebastien Tellier listened a lot to this song while making "Pepito Bleu"...
facts
@Frankydoesitalso It would actually be Dan the Automator who is the "tunethiefing" one, if you wanted to be so ignorant as to call him that. This is indeed an incredible piece of music, as is the song Del and Dan used it to make. If they hadn't sampled this beautiful song many of us would never have heard of William Sheller. Props to all of them, especially Sheller.
The Cause of Labour is the Hope of the World - Jóhann Jóhannsson is pretty epic could be the sort of thing yer after
@rubbersoultrain I know a lot of them are plain tunethiefs... What more is there to know?
Normally prog bands after a while go symphonic by adding an orchestra to their music but this is what happens when a classical composer goes progressive ...
Arvo Part - Salve Regina perhaps, no beat though
Makes me think of an Ayn Rand novel.
Oh wow. I wasn't expecting the 3030 opener to be so similar to this. This is megafresh.
Yo, it's 3030!
Yo, this is three thousand thirty!
Hmmm, I guess I was thinking the instrumentals (string and guitar) more than the vocals/chorus
@rubbersoultrain I guess it must be so
@rubbersoultrain Still a tunethief he is
Anyone know any more tracks/artists that sound like this?
I hear u saying 3030 but giys what song?

Automator!
Fuck dyin ima hyjack a mech
Who is the f***ing author of this music? I don't think it's William Sheller, this title doesn't appear on any of his albums...
@Frankydoesitalso who are you, Yoda? know very little about hip hop do you.
Obviously not.

RealJan00 Its meant to be a backdrop to a story told by Del... Dan the automator (the producer, not del...) captured the 3030 concept perfectly.. Combined with Del's futuristic type verses, they nailed it.. Its not about just sampling, but the arrangement and feel of the sample which makes the song flow and breathe new life to it. Thats real HipHop...

I agree, and unfortunately this theme has spread to all contemporary music. What is needed is an clear and decisive reference to the original. This song has all the incredible music ideas I credited to Automater. I would have never of found this out without a KZread comment.

Also Im sure 90% of the people that have listened to this would have no idea of existence if it wasn't for Automator. So be appreciative that he created such a gem! And also respect the original score from which it was created. HIPHOP LIVES
