    There is no benchmarks to back that up, from my overlook of the very few benchmarks in 4k paired with slower cpus the bottlenecks start with ryzen 5000 series especially in 1% and 0.1% framerates. Intel i know nothing about but it is probably very similar. Reviewers are stupid and never test cpus in 4k as they think it doesnt matter as this guy in the video. One day reviewers will even try cpus in 4k but today its about 5% that test it so the recomendations in 4k gaming is a bit of guesswork.

    im using a 5900x with a 4090 and have seen a few cases of a cpu bottleneck for sure, in fact so much so ive found myself turning DLSS off and gaining more performance in some games, microsoft flight sim being one (before dlss3 implementation). Another example game would be minecraft RTX, it seems to have a serious bottleneck, perhaps because DLSS is forced on with RT, the GPU will often be limited to around 40-50 percent, this is with max render distance possible using RT and i get pretty low framerate, in fact it was almost certainly better on my 3080ti in this title. ram used is DDR4 3733 cas 17 and system only has SSD/Nvme setup. any other ideas are welcome, playing on a LG C1.

    @@natsu78999 No. Go look into some benchmarks. Even the 13900k bottlenecks the 4090 in some games at 4k with ray tracing enabled. The 5900x is lower midrange now even if it's current new price doesn't reflect that and I'm not surprised it bottlenecks a 4090 at all. Here is a video showing multiple generations of Ryzen 5 CPUs paired with a 4090 and as you can see even the 5600x bottlenecks the 4090 in 4k sometimes (and considering the 5600x is not very far behind the 5900x in gaming it should be a similar experience). Interestingly if you have Ryzen 2nd or 3rd gen you may as well just buy a 1080 ti because that's how bad those chips bottleneck a 4090. kzread.info/dash/bejne/q6Wqy8uiZZSbm6w.html

  • @hrod9393
    @hrod9393 Жыл бұрын

    So I just upgraded to a 4090 it's OCd, I have my older cpu 10850k oc'd at 5.0ghz. What I've noticed for the first time in my life is that going lower than 4k doesn't give me any better fps in the games I play. The good thing is at 4k I'm getting above my desired fps which is 80-90 fps for my most demanding games (cyberpunk, r2d2), eventually it would be nice to maximize my 4k 240hz monitor and run 4k games at 240 fps , but that's going to require a more than double performance GPU, which is at least a couple years away. By then there might be a newer more demanding game as well. Actually I can probably get closer to that 240 fps, once the frame generation DLSS3 is implemented, so very happy about that. I'm kind of hooked on how 4k looks, I can definitely see the downgrade if I go to 1440 or 1080 on my 32" monitor. What will make sense is to save money for the next GPU upgrade until the cpu actually is bottlenecking the 4k of the GPU. Thanks for the vdo and comparisons!

    If dropping the quality and resolution of your graphics are not giving you more fps then you are CPU bottlenecked. You are not getting the most performance out of the card. A faster GPU won’t make a difference if you don’t get a faster processor.

  • @hrod9393

    @hrod9393

    Жыл бұрын

    @@MaddaxxxE Of course that's true, but CPUs are are behind the times and haven't caught up. There won't be fast enough CPUs for quite a while, at least with the way current games are coded for the cores. I've been observing that even at 4k, each CPU generation nets approximately 10% improvement. Frame Generation has been a huge blessing, 50-100% fps improvement is about 10 years of CPU improvement and that's simply in 4K, it's equivalent to much more at lower resolution. Good luck! Get that 40 series GPU, only if pushing 4K and/or frame generation for both 1440/4k

    The information in the video is wrong, the 3.40 result in the video shows a 2080ti and not a 4090 as is stated and then ofcourse it doesnt matter in 4k a ryzen 5600x or 7600x cpu paired with a 6 year old nvidia gpu. I found the review on anandtechs site. The truth of the matter is that reviewers havent realized that the new grapicards 4070ti and higher pushes enough frames in 4k that the actual cpu really matters. In test on youtube with tests with old cpus in 4k with a 4090 the framerates drops significantly and u need at least a 5000 series cpu to push decent framerates in 4k but it is still bottlenecked until u move up to 7000 ryzen. (I am sure i answered but my comment was gone for some reason) so this information this reviewer is wrong and so many more that state that a cpu doesnt matter in 4k and by that metrics a 4090 can be paired with any 10 year old cpu 😂

    I've got a 3090 which I don't plan on upgrading for many years and I get circa 160 fps on a 1440p 170hz monitor, playing a demanding game being COD Warzone with all me settings at high and DLSS off. I'm still rocking a 9900k clocked to 5Ghz all cores. The issue with us that have these cpu's is the 1% and 0.1% lows will be significantly worse than the newer processors. There has to be s point where the modern games will eventually force you to upgrade your platform and cpu. Hence, why I'll be upgrading to X670 and the 3d V Cache variant of Zen 4 once its released as I'll be able to keep that platform for several years.

No matter how hard I try I can't seem to push above 140fps consistently without seriously compromising on low graphics settings having to put DLSS on. I game in 1440p also. Frustrating because im a cod player but the optimisation of this game really sucks

    @@Mobiletechvr That's really not true that many generations back. The 4090 is bottlenecked to perform barely over a 1080ti at 1440p and 4k with a Ryzen 5 2600x which should be around comparable to the i5 8400. I really feel like people underestimate how powerful the 4090 really is and don't understand how new tech in games is even more demanding. Even the 13900k bottlenecks the 4090 in certain games at 4k with ray tracing enabled. If the 13900k is bottlenecking the 4090 sometimes than basically no CPU can currently fully utilize the gpu all the time. Tl;Dr If you are paying $1600-$1800+ for a 4090, do not use an old CPU or you may as well have just saved a $1,000+ and bought a lower end GPU because your performance isn't gonna be much different.

    I definitely feel that if you're getting a 4090, you might as well get a high-end CPU. Specially if ray tracing performace is matters to you. While the GPU is doing most of the grunt work in ray tracing workloads, the CPU still needs to be able to keep up with it since ray tracing is actually fairly heavy on the CPU as well. If you're playing at 4K and the CPU can't keep up that could be a problem without DLSS 3 (if it turns out to be good).
