Will The RUSTIEST GTO Ever Run and Drive 250 Miles Home?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I bought this rusted and abandoned 1969 Pontiac GTO last fall from essentially a junkyard, we got it running back then but that was about it. I dumped it at ‪@JunkyardDigs‬ place and now it's time to drive this vintage Pontiac 270 miles home! Will I survive?

I ruined a hot rod 454 with the wrong oil. (.30 over flat tops, cam, intake, 750 demon carb, headers, ls7 style rec port heads...) It ran excellent for about 10,000 miles And i had been using vr1 20/50. It only took 500ish miles on Castrol to ruin it.

A trick an old timer taught me long ago is that if your shocks have a single bolt on top is to grab a deep well socket and an extension, make sure you have solid contact between socket and nut, and pry it back and forth til it snaps off. Today, here in the Uk, I managed to start a 1958 Velocette Valiant motorcycle that’s been off the road since 1974, the only new part (which wasn’t necessary for starting) was a new rectifier for the ancient alternator charging system (which still works!). It’s quite a rare bike, a 200cc flat twin (a bit like a miniature BMW). I hate using brake cleaner for starting, but this thing wouldn’t pop off without it. Once it started & ran for a bit it was fine, now it starts first kick (feels like compression was down & the rings have come back around). On top of that, it set off my new cheapest Chinese workshop carbon monoxide detector, so I now know that works too. All in all, a good day, topped off with a PBG video.

I welded for a living and as long as you have clean welds with no porosity, then it should hold 10,000 pounds per square inch of good weld! Great video love both channels! Dalton, I’m so happy to see you getting a barn. It has been my dream too! God will provide I know, and I am so glad to see you doing well, Dalton!

I think you Kevin vgg and ol peg saved my life. I grew up watching dad build trucks and tractors so I took that on. I got a girlfriend that took all my time for 3 years. I did bare minimum mechanical wise. She left me in saying being a farmer isn’t a good enough job. I was broken 8 months ago. I started to watch y’all and my dad play around with stuff so I jumped back in. Long story short I rebuilt my childhood truck. Did a mechanical restoration on my 1962 Chevy I learned to drive in. Also did a complete mechanical restoration on my dads 1950 Chevy 3100 then I rebuilt the engine in a farmall tractor then bought a truck cheep got it running again did a bunch of work. Then sold it to a friend who’s using it as a daily. I needed something to look forward too at the end of the day and also something to wake up for. Mechanical work and running the family farm is that for me I learned. Also you and jd’s relationship is copy n paste of my dad and I’s relationship. Don’t let him make the mistake I did. I’m still not 100 percent over her yet but I’m a work n progress like my vehicles. Blessings to y’all! Keep you head under a hood my friend.

I'm torn. On one hand, I love it. It's ratty, it's dirty, it's horrible and it's awesome. On the other hand... It's a freaking 1969 GTO. After seeing the silver dollar go back together, I have a good feeling that this could be 'restored', just like that truck. If it was a base Lemans where hundreds of thousands were made, no one would care. But its a piece of American history right there, a piece of the late Pontiac's legacy, something that's been written of in song.

Kevin's car had a nice spoiler on the trunk. I suggest, with a little more all-thread protrusion through the trunk lid, a couple more nuts and washers, and 4 feet of fence, you could've matched him up pretty well. Oh, and yours would've been "wood grain".

Meanwhile, over on the other side of The Pond, I got an 'advisory' on my MOT* that the radiator support bracket had surface rust on it and should be replaced . . . . *MOT is a yearly inspection for UK cars over 3 years old - you can't legally drive without one.

The more heavily populated states tend to have vehicle inspection and emissions tests. The more lightly populated ones, like Iowa and Missouri, do not. Also, cars there rust like crazy due to the winter salt on the roads so seeing cars destroyed by rust is common.
