    In the United States, your speedometer is allowed a variance of 4%. So even if he was spot on at 55 MPH, it doesn't mean that's exactly how fast he was going. So that's another factor in play here as well. It's also a good tidbit of information to have if you ever get a speeding ticket within that allowed variance

    If he took the true velocity of the round, and drove the vehicle exactly that speed, the round would fall behind the car as soon as it hit the eddy currents.. However he did this over and over again until he could get everything to conclude to a net result as close to 0 as he could.. thus invalidating the "experiment". This wasn't a true experiment. This was "result matching" to the best expected viewership value.

    The air disturbance created by the car only affected the balls vertical drop rate due to gravity. Air resistance in the horizontal direction is minimal its actually experiencing a lift force due to the cars wake. When the gun is fired a new force gets applied which is almost exactly equal to the force necessary to instantly decelerate the ball relative to its initial velocity (the same as the cars).

    The f-16s velocity would be added to the bullet's velocity, so in a vacuum the bullet would go the speed of a bullet + the speed of the f-16, but the bullet's air resistance after leaving the barrel means they wouldnt be able to go much faster than the plane, or maybe even slower (without further propulsion, ie missiles) space fighters would probably be able to utilize projectile-type weapons since the hazard goes off to infinity instead of lagging behind you

  • @aerowalker3

    @aerowalker3

    I think you got all the factors at play totally right. Although the initial moving to the right is probably more because the car wasn’t going exactly the speed the ball is launched. Something like 54.8 mph. Stinking close, but just enough that the ball has a little extra velocity the other way. Air resistance, air flow, and gravity definitely immediately came into play after that, though. To be fair, it’s impossible to know which forces are causing the most movement when the movements here are so minute in comparison to the speed he’s traveling. It’s probably a combination of the answers.
