I bet to differ that China and India will "naturally" become world power due to previous long history. You may learn from old mistakes but it does not guarantee success for the future, it need brilliant leadership and the cohesiveness of the people to adapt to new challenges. The Egyptian have even much longer history, but where are they now? So many great empires fail to last and never recover again. China is more likely to "recover" due to its centralize political system, any good but painful policies will get implemented, but also the Bad & Painful one like the Cultural Revolution! In any case, major policies will get through swiftly. In contrast, India is a democratic system, the elected leaders have to think twice before administering the Bitter Pill to the people even though it is good, for he might be voted out in the next election. There also the rich & influential elites that want all policies good for their interests only.

Some technology transfers made by American and other Western firms into Asia could have been regarded as treasonous a century ago. Western attitude toward globalism, with recent retreat, has been quite beneficial to Asia.

The relation between innovation and economic progress is imprecise. One reason is the definition of innovation. Better application of newer technology can be innovation for economic growth. I believe Asians are good at improving newer technologies. There has been very few revolutionary technological breakthroughs outside of the West, but this does not inhibit growth in Asia, at least not until the per capita GDP gap closes.

Moreover, in addition to the historical perspective, the role of modern globalization in aiding Asia's economic progress should not be ignored. Globalism may be in retreat but will have continual impact for a long time to come. The chance of China achiving at least 1/3 the per capita GDP of the USA's, within 15-30 years, on exchange rate term is very high.

India to me should progress differently from communist china. India is not a communist nation. Keep on being yourself and being part of Asia that away from communist china and asia will be as should be. Communist china is a stand-alone communist nation that must changed into by people for people and not just ccp.

Divide and Rule. If we have Japan and India fighting with China, the Americans and Europeans can continue to rule.

I don't like the definition of "Asia". It encompasses so many different cultures. A more appropriate division would be similar to what we do for America (North and South America) - South and North Asia.
