When winter nears, a subdued brown coat turns dazzling white in many-although not all-snowshoe hares. But the camouflage can’t work without snow. And length of daylight, not snowfall, triggers molting. Scott Mills and colleagues at the University of Montana study snowshoe hares from a population in Washington state, where some change color seasonally, and others stay brown all year-better if there’s less snow. The research shows that regions where genes for winter-white and winter-brown coats coexist allow natural selection for new, less snowy conditions. The scientists recommend protecting habitat in these evolutionary hotspots.

This species' coloration plays a key role in its ability to adapt to habitat changes. Do you think the snowshoe hare has what it takes to overcome climate change?

Whoever wrote this a National Geographic in this video. Have you seen it with your own eyes that he has change it's mutation in any way shape or form? Has it evolved before your eyes? It is disappointing If This truly is from National Geographic believe in a Theory that is not true

I can't get my eyes from the cute bunnies, but I HAVE TO READ THE INFO, why did you do this to me?!
So cute
Bunnies are such cute animals! Don't you agree? Even nature likes these little guys.
This is why species need genetic variation.
Love 🐰🐇... Cant get enough..

THIS IS THE CUTEST VIDEO I'VE EVER SEEN
They're sweet and very camouflaged
great video I love animals especially birds. There are bird lovers here
Very interesting video but the title does not reflect the content. The Snowshoe hare is in no danger of extinction whatsoever. Demonstrated in this video is that the shoeshoe hare already is primed to evolve as local climate conditions change. In fact it has been doing so for a very long time. This is a spectacular example of the adaptability of a species through the mechanism of maintaining a diverse population with groups specialized for maximum efficiency in variety of environments. Where there's no snow, the brown showshoe hares predominate. Where there's always snow, the white showshoe hares predominate. There is extremely strong evolutionary pressure to quickly adapt to the climate, so they do.

Regardless if the answer is yes or no, they posed a valid question in the title, not a statement.
So beautiful 💟
There so cute
How can I join National Geographic ??? I also wanna be a photographer
I love rabbits..i have one all white rabbit..and my previous one was all black.. they are intelligent btw. I think owning a pet and seeing their behaviour for years is a better way to learn than just studying about them for few months. The previous one was super friendly and intelligent while the new one is aggressive lol.
There's only so much ukulele I can handle...
Hope they get to adapt to the climate change. I feel sad everytime I rember that because of us and our egocentric mentalism other species are in a hurry to survive. Lets see how 'natural' (is more 'anthropic') selection will act.
I like the song and snow shoe hares are suuuuuu cuuuutttteeee

Don’t worry, there will be plenty of snow and ice. If not there will be plenty of food.
I love Nat Geo, but these short videos always have captions so I have to watch it twice to see the beautiful animals and again (if im really into it) to actually learn about them. Please start using a narrator?

Thanks for your feedback, Kyle. We'll try to use narrators for our shorter videos so that you can continue to enjoy seeing these snowshoe hares and other animals in action!
It snowed in San Diego.
The hares don't have a problem with either one you speek of

so are rabbits and hares the same or is there a difference?
Why don’t you narrate all your videos?

If evolution plays A Part here why don't you take the same creature and take it to another Terrain, would it change its way and its form before your eyes?
