Just some facts... Steelers gave up an average of 19.7 PPG last season... 2 games they lost were by the opponent scoring less than 21 points... So if they manage to get just the "SAME" production from Russ as they did Kenny Pickett than they would have been a 12 win team. Mind you, this is a team the went 5-1 in the division. The only loss in the division was to Cleveland when the score was 13-10, and Kenny Pickett had 77 total passing yards

The problem people seem to forget is nobody is expecting Wilson to ball at all. He is legit on a Seahawks 2.0 team right now. Let's compare the Seahawks V Broncos V Steelers. Stability at HC: Broncos have changed coaches annually since Manning retired which means new coordinators which means no identity which means issues. Steelers have had the same HC for over 17 years which brings stability, same with Pete Carroll before he got fired this past off season. Offense: Broncos like that fast passing game with a bunch of screens like the Saints did a decade ago (which doesn't work anymore, teams are pushing the ball down the field nowadays). Seahawks were a run first team which opened up the medium and long ball passing game where Wilson is elite at, rolling out the pocket and finding Lockett, DK, or Baldwin for huge gain. Steelers have two solid RB's that will open up that playbook plus you look at Arthur Smith's play calling, it's pretty decent but he mf's like Taylor Ketchup and Desmond Ridder throwing the ball. Defense: Seahawks defense speaks for itself. The Broncos literally gave up 70 points to Tua, had the Jets running back run for 200 yards on the ground, and had Sam Howell looking like primetime Brady. The Steelers literally have a top 5 defense when healthy, they went 5-1 in the division last year and their division has gotten weaker if we are being honest. Ravens lost two playmakers on defense to their rivals, Bengals may be losing Higgins and we don't know how Burrow will be coming off that hand injury, and the browns...well their QB is iffy. Russell Wilson doesn't need to go to the Steelers and be the hero like he was expected too in Denver. He doesn't need too, that running game and defense will set him up like it did in Seattle. He was never a throw the ball 400 times a game kind of QB.

True but if burrow was healthy all season I feel like Steelers and Bengals would've split. Going to Baltimore the Steelers beat them rather they have starters in or backups so I don't think that makes much of a difference.

Anytime Russ looked great last season was when the play deviated from Sean Payton's game plan. James is correct on that. Payton is a one trick pony, outdated coach. He refused to work with Wilson because he is a control freak who likes it his way or the highway. He'd have rather lost games forcing his way than win letting Russ be Russ.

The way Russ looks, Mahomes wouldn’t beat him out right now! Russ has that focus he had 2013-2015 but is showing the skills of 2017-2020. Nobody could beat him out with that.

Dave is really hung up on the 21 points per game by Russ and the Broncos. Somebody should let Dave know that the Chiefs averaged 22 points per game. And also if you actually take away the last 2 games that Russ didn't play, Russ actually averaged 21.8 PPG. So Russ was actually pretty much averaging the same points per game as Mahomes, but according to Dave that won't get him anywhere.

The primary reason the Broncos went on a winning streak in the middle of last season was because of their defense. People who don’t regularly watch the Broncos the last two seasons don’t really understand that Russ’s stats are way better than he actually is on the field. He’s a complete liability most of the time.

Somebody should also let him know that the Broncos were leading the league in scoring at one point at 26 PPG and #1 in red zone efficiency. Russ was incredible for playing under a coach who sabotaged him.

@@thehoot79 I watched all the broncos games last year. He was definitely good, not great like he was in Seattle but not terrible like his first year in Denver. Also I have not seen a single factual source that says Sean Payton dumbed down the playbook, only media and fans saying that's what he did. Sean Payton definitely did not like Russ and wanted to get him gone, which is why he called check downs and screens all game, and then switched to real plays in the 4th quarter when they were down and he needed Russ to make the score look respectable. That's why Russ didn't have the best numbers but still had the best redzone efficiency, the most redzone touchdowns, and the most game winning drives last season out of all QBs.

The Steelers play pretty well against the Ravens. Every year, remember that? This guy says we can’t “take down the Ravens”?

Just because Arthur smith was a bad head coach, doesn’t mean he won’t be a good coordinator. We forgetting that Arthur smith had Ryan tannehill looking like he was supposed to be a starter.

Russ don’t have to come have all pro season. He needs to be serviceable. Pickett had 13 TD’s and 13 INt’s in 2 seasons.

Too short and he’s not mobile like he used to be. He was brought in because he’s a former SB champion and costs only 1 million. Hopefully he’s benched so Justin gets to shine and show he can be a franchise QB when placed in a better offense.

Was nice to hear actual analysis from dave and not feelings like we get from the rest of this group.

If the Steelers went 10-7 with a rotation of Kenny, Mitch, and Mason.....I think having Russ and an improved defense puts them at the same record if not slightly better. They handled their division quite well last year too. Like Russ is by far better than the other QBs that were in the room last year and if you think he can't win them at least one playoff game then just wow lol

Acho wet for Sean Payton. jeez. How does Payton get credit for making a 1st round pick Teddy B look good when he had talent already. How does he get credit for Taysom looking good. He was a QB in college and only plays like 10% of the season in relevance. Brees is the only QB Ive seen Payton be responsible for, legitimately. 1 Season does not make a QB wizard

The Steelers swept the Ravens, Bengals and almost swept the Browns(3 points). They beat the Packers and the Rams(=playoffs teams). And made the playoffs. All with unproven less than mediocre QB play. Wilson's stats last year in 15 games. 3070 yds, 26 tds, 8 ints, 341 rush, 3 tds rush. It's safe to say they if he plays all 17 games he has 3500 pass, 30 tds, 9ints , 400 rush 4 rush tds...with the sorry Broncos. I'm not even a Steelers fan. It doesn't take a genius to know that the Steelers if they stay healthy will be a better team than last year and have a legitimate chance of being AFC conference contenders.

Russell Wilson has been cooked for 2 years and somehow people think he'll be different in the same style team as the last 2. No difference means its all on Russ, and he folds as usual.

Dave doesnt understand the question. It was two different teams last year. Russ was on the Broncos who had ish on their offense. The Steelers had way more talented offensive players but had ish at the QB position. Russ will have the Steelers scoring more than 18 points per game this year.

One time i disagree with James, did people forget the broncos vs bills last season, yes the broncos won but the Broncos defense causes 5 turnovers overs giving the broncos short field all game, Wilson could only squeak out a win by 2 points, Wilson is trash

At least the conversation has transitioned from the ridiculousness of Fields starting over Russ to questions about how good Russ will be this year. By season’s open, maybe the convo will go back to where it should be: whether Russ can lead the Steelers to the SB and/or win the MVP.

"Russell wilson was making plays outside the pocket on broken plays". Seahawks fan here. That's all Russell can do. He's below average at making the scheduled pocket throws, mainly due to his size. He creates broken plays by not making the easy throw. Geno Smith is a better pocket QB than Russ for instance

Acho giving sean payton credit for russell wilson’s season. Wilson could have 15 more TDs if Payton wasn’t handicapping him ALL SEASON. Are we forgetting Sean payton tried to FORCE russell wilson to restructure his contract? or that payton was the one who was 1000% okay letting Wilson walk with eating a $40 mill cap penalty? Payton didn’t want Wilson and it was evident all last season. You can’t say that coach is fully responsible for Wilson’s season without possibly considering, he wasn’t doing Russ any favors with the play calling.

A big improvement for them would be a middle of the league stats kind of offense. It doesn't mean they win the division, but it does make it close and give them a chance. Not bad for having the worst WR Corp in their division. J Fields had better earn 6 yards a carry and score 6 to 8 TDs on the ground. Wilson gets a better defense and o line and coordinator/head coach. If healthy, and lucky with officials, Steelers could easily be a top 4 or top 3 AFC team.

mindset is everything. Russell was not mental there for the Broncos. He was traded after winning 1 but getting to 2 bowls, to a team not very good. He checked out for awhile. Last year we did see more life but not bc of payton but bc he knew he wanted out and had to play better. Payton you could tell didn't like Rus and we have all seen what happen when that happens. Nah he's in a better mind set and on a much better team now. You could see a huge year for them or Just a winning season. It is the first year but I think he will play very well in a tough division.
