While it is TRUE POGI wasn't pushed what Chris is NOT saying/overlooking, is that Pogi basically treated the last 10 days of the GIRO as a training camp....attacking and doing his "interval" work when he wanted and to the level HE wanted.

Last year Pogi was ganged up on Stage X of the TdF and he snapped. It's impossible for one person to cover all the attacks, but hats off to Pogi for trying. This year will be different as he has a much better team. Lest not forget last year when Remco blew up spectacularly in the TdF. Its hard to imagine Remco, Roglic and JV in top form after that brutal crash. So they might initially give Pogi a run for his money, but Pogi will inevitably shut them down in the mountains to win the TdF. What I'm curious about are the TdF sprinters. The six flat stages will be a sprinters paradise. 💯🚀🚂

This year he is in Bora and if it werent for Pogi, Bora would already have one. Same time, where is Visma? can you imagine such a perormance from Visma last year? Looking at how things are going, Tour will be same. UAE and Bora will be the heavyweights.

I don't think it is fair to give the credit for Martinez to Roglic. Bora already was a good team before Roglic attempting to get with the best and Martinez just seems to do fine with the fine. Giving Roglic credit for Martinez' perfomance does a huge discredit to Martinez and Bora. Roglic's presence might have helped build up Jumbo (though that also is mostly due to a new vision in management), but it is way too short for him to have had a real effect on the entirety of Bora. Visma has just had insane bad luck with crashes and illnesses this year.

@@counselor5286 Pogacar is just an insane rider. There is also the matter that Remco lost a lot of time and progress with his Lombardia crash (1,5 year at least). If you look at the all time PCS ranking points divided by active years, Remco is 2nd active rider (not even accounting for his lost time), but Pogacar is well in the lead with almost double points/active year. Remco has high enough peaks to compete, he has just also lacked consistency, something Pog has had since 2020/21 already (arguably his biggest strength). In fact untill last year Remco had some higher peak climbing performances than Pog, but Pog had consistency and improved a lot in the last 1,5 years too. Remco on the other hand is more inconsistent and bit more bad luck imo (like with Covid at the Giro when he was looking really good or the crash in Itzulia now).

Pogi broke a WRIST last year and missed just enough training to make the podium, win 3 stages, and the young riders jersey and get smoked on 2 high alpine stages in the heat... By Jonas who was reliably delivering 6.5-7 watts/kg for 20+ minutes in week 2 and 3 of the Tour Unfortunately Jonas broke several ribs, blew a hole in his lungs, had blood in the lung cavity and was in hospital in Spain for so long that his own FATHER did not have any updates on his status. The man just got on the bike 2 weeks ago. If he is not ready for the Dauphine he will not be ready for the TdF... Meanwhile Pogacar won six stages, the KOM and overall at the Giro, after riding at 6-almost 7 watts /kg at will as he won stages almost on accident There are 5 weeks before the Tour. Both men will be at an altitude training camp before the Tour.. If Jonas shows up to the TdF it's already an incredible recovery that deserves all our respect. Remco's broken collarbone will go for stages, but he cannot hang with Pogi when the climbing gets serious. Primoz has a good shot if he stays upright, if he gels with his team and if he can deliver the watts in the heat on high altitude climbs long enough. Tadej's biggest opponent will be 30+ minute long, high altitude climbs in the summer heat. Not Jonas Vingegaard.

tho i do think Roglic and Evenepoel are better than the competition for Pogacar in the Giro, i dont see them get really close to Pogacar in the GC. I think in the end they will lose more than 4 minutes to him. So for me its only a matter if Vingegaard can reach a 100% during or at the start of the Tour. I do really hope he will cuz it will be a nice battle again!

hopefullly we will have everybody in topshape on the startingline. The course seems to favour Jonas - but I am not sure .It seems we are missing climbs with long steep section like Ventoux, Granon, Hautacam and de la Loze. The best example is maybe Marie Blanque with 6 k with +10% where Jonas took more than a minute and the day after Tourmalet wasnt steep enough for Jonas to drop Tadej again.

So Chris, as I remember you said that, yup, they were the "B" team, so it was not a good team decision regard to rider strengths. Well as a 79yo barely rider, I'm thinking that this race was not all that exciting, actually pretty boring. I kind of really enjoy those close races. I think you are understating how good a form Tadej is in. He is in the form of his life, no doubt. He rode away from professional bike riders like they were amateurs, that rode protected rides into climbs. He beat Ganna on the TT... Ganna!!! He took a stab at a sprint stage and Geraint could could barely hold his wheel on the flat! a former TDF winner!!! He rode like a man that knew he was invincible. That didnt have to save his matches. I think he will look to dominate early in the tour get a big lead so the rest start thinking about second place and takes the pressure of his team. The giro wasnt easy he made it look that way. And his contenders for the tour are all coming off crashes. He would need to crash into a hospital of contagious sick people for anyone to stand a chance. I hope he doesnt, his domination is a wonder that deserves to be seen. Shame Venegaard hasnt had that crash. I think Tadej wanted to beat him on a level playing field. (remember Tadej had a crash in spring last year and broke his wrist). Their will be question marks about that rivalry until the stars align for the perfect match up.
