    7:14 how has no one noticed the deck? See anything odd about the card ordering? The cards were definitely in sets before the shuffle so he by the looks of it certainly had jacks, kings and queens clumped together. That undoubtedly were in the centre of the deck during the cut this made it much easier to do exactly what he did which was look through the deck and determine which card was missing.

    I love one thing in particular. If you go through the Fool Us videos on youtube, you very often stumble upon magicians trying to misguide you by the video title, such as "Magician astonishes Penn and Teller" in order to trick people to watching it hoping they wont"t notice the title not actually saying "fooled". Aand here is the double fooler that is humble enough to let the video tell the story and only lets the title tickle your curiousity. A je pěkné vidět, že takováhle skromnost pochází z naší krásné domoviny, tohle se myslím v Karpatech nehledalo :-)

    I think I figured it out. The deck is at first ordered in a way so that the memorable cards (ace, king, queen, joker) are all next to each in groups of four at the center of the deck. His bet was that she would cut the deck around the middle which is what most people do, and she did that. The deck is shuffled and handed back. The first search was to identify which of those sets of cards was missing one, and he identified it as the ace. You wouldn't need to check the numbered cards which is why it went so quickly. The second search was to count the number of cards for the two gaps between the three aces. In this case, the shuffling didn't separate two of them so he only had to remember one number. At the last ace he finds, you can see he cuts the deck and places the rest of the cards on the bottom. This puts one ace on top, and the other two the memorized number of cards in. He brought four beatles as a contingency. If he needed more time or another look, he could eat another one and "increase his power". So he had four chances to look at the cards, but luckily he only needed two. If she had cut the cards in an odd way, say a few cards in one pile and the majority in the other, she would have drawn a number card. He would have had to search the whole deck instead of just the memorable cards he put in the middle and probably would have needed another look. Finally, when he lays down the cards it seems like he also memorized their color, value, and suit to be able to lay them down in order. He lays the three cards down, stating what each is as he goes. When he picks them back up, he looks at them and places them down in a different order. This means it didn't matter where the cards were or in what order. To me it seems like Penn and Teller's explanation is pretty spot on, and I'm not sure he completely fooled them. It seems like they didn't think he could have searched for the missing card in the time he did and that he did something else, so maybe there is a little more to it and he did fool them. It took me several watch throughs to get this so I'll say you fooled me, I don't think I could do it like you did.

    I just understood why he looked at the cards. It was entirely to misdirect Penn & Teller. It forces that to be their guess (that he actually just looked for the missing card and memorized the location). That way, they've wasted their guess on something that's wrong and they normally don't take a second guess. That's absolutely brilliant.

    I think it is simple. The cards are made to be cut preferably in one spot. To be sure, around the centre of the deck before Alison initial cut, there are only Kings, Queens and Aces or so in the middle. She cuts, and puts one of these selected few cards under her butt. He goes through the cards TWICE and simply looks which of these 12 or 16 cards are missing. That is a skill that can be practiced. Then he just selects the three other cards to finish the trick.

One of those will be on the top, have someone shuffle to hide the evidence. Now when you search the deck you are only looking for 16 cards instead of 52. The essence of this trick is one of two things in my opinion, it's either memorization or force. To me it sounds like P&T guess memorization, but the ace is in fact a force and that's why the trophy came down.

  • @yoavsigler4457

    In his other videos he pulls off very similar effects (Finding missing cards, knowing the location of certain cards in the deck). He did show P&T how the cards are marked, but he probably didn't fully explain exactly what that allows him to do. I think that he didn't have to look at the cards for the trick to work, and that it was just misdirection. P&T completely missed how the trick is done, and that's why he deserved to get the trophy. The mechanics of the trick were disguised very well, and the act was designed to specifically fool P&T. It's really beautiful.

Identifying that Allison picked the Ace of Spades and locating the other aces. The rest is done to throw off Penn and Teller (eating beatles, looking through the cards, etc) He has a KZread channel called Butterfly Playing Cards where he demonstrates similar effects and more. Here's my take on how he did the trick. We didn't see the order of cards before Allison made the cut. So normally people cut decks right around middle. Especially when it's someone as Allison. I believe all the spade cards were placed in the middle of the deck. So he knew only a Spade was picked. When he went through the cards the first time he looked for which spade was missing, which I believe is quite possible out of 13 cards. The second time he went through the cards he memorized or tracked the rest 3 Aces to complete the end of trick.

First time you decide to count Red or Black cards - it should of course have 24 of respective but one of this colours will be 23pcs. That leads you to the next search, now you know what color is missing in the deck so second run you only look for 23 cards of the color that missed one card. But then would easily come unstuck when shuffling he fooled them by making they think he could add all the face values real fast to see what # was missing then count to see where other aces were. But I think he only had to count where other aces were and mis directed them into thinking it was free choice counting trick when it was a simple force.

    I feel like the whole trick is some sort of recall memory method that allows him to notice which card is missing and to take note of the position of the other 3 cards of that type. Like first run through the cards finds what Alison's card is, second run notes the placement of the other 3 aces. Happy to be wrong though.

    More to it than that. He forced the Ace of Spades specifically. The special card. The rest of the trick is fluff to make it a stage performance. My guess is the two scans are there to determine if the trick goes on as intended or to bail into recovery mode. He got Alison to split the deck and take the top card. That's the whole trick.

    I have a theory that I believe would work with practice. Here it is: the deck is pre arranged such that there are groupings made. All Aces, all kings, all queens together and so on. The middle 50% of the deck is grouped with the high cards from aces to eights. The starting and ending cards are random. Allison cuts the cards and completes the cut and takes a card. She will cut anywhere near the middle and take a high card for sure. Now you have to find 1 of 28 cards. Between aces and 8s. Can be further made simple by using ace through 10s but chances increase of cutting elsewhere. Teller shuffles the cards so the groupings break off but they dont become completely random. You can see at the end where Penn collects the cards that all the high cards are grouped or close together. Then when he sifts through the cards the first time he can look for the missing card. It would greatly help to have a system here like a mnemonic or memory place trick to see which card is missing. If you need to look again you have an extra dung beetle as well. So maybe you can go through 14 cards the first time and 14 the second. It was an ace which must have been near the middle which Allison cut perfectly so he did it super fast the first time. The second time around or third time, but second here he only has to remember the position of two cards as he cuts right to the third ace and reveals it as the first card. Then count to second and third card. At the same time he has to remember the suits in order and his card reveal wording will change according to that but this should be very easy. First card reveals suit or value based on the order of the aces. It's a complicated trick with some memory required but I think it can be done this way or with a bit of improvement to this method.

  • @Kanakotka

    @Kanakotka

    That works until someone cuts the first card of the deck or the last card of the deck, as most magicians or tricksters would. It's not to "fool proof" the trick, but rather to "smart-proof" the trick that's the issue with your claimed method. I know a pair of very similar tricks to this, and they work nothing like what you postulate.

    I love that this is such a trick for magicians. I won't pretend to know how it was done, but the amount of people who think it has to do with scanning for the missing card is incredible. If I could pick the exact missing card from a shuffled deck with only going through it twice, I would just go on the road with my inhuman ability to memorize.

Not only would you have to read all of the cards that fast, you’d have to take the next step to determine which is missing. Did you see every ace? Every 7? Every 3? @KABIR KASHIFJust try it. Give it a go, he had 3 bugs ie he was prepared to look 3 times through the deck. Its fully shuffled deck. Teller shuffled it. Only thing you can try to bet on is that missing card is in the middle'ish as Alison cut the deck first to pick a card - you can hope for roughly middle of deck cut. He spotted the missing card in first look, in second he memorised where are all the other aces.

    I think I know how it could be done. Something was very slightly unusual about him shaking Allison’s and Teller’s hands at the beginning. If he is putting invisible ink on their hands in this way, either Allison or Teller would just need to touch the bottom of the deck after Allison cut it, but before Teller shuffled it, to mark that card. Notice the deck was not shuffled in the beginning, so it could be stacked. By finding that marked bottom card, he would know what card was taken even AFTER it was shuffled. The second scanning was to find the location of the other Aces for the final draws at the end of the trick.
