    That hornworm looks to be a blue hornworm aka a tobacco hornworm because they like to eat tobacco leaves. Its species was the inspiration for the caterpillar in Alice in Wonderland. It didn’t know what was coming 😔 RIP Absolem lol

    The excitement they exhibit when they eat the hissers, it is the same excitement my Jewled Lacerta expresses every time I feed them. Especially roaches. It's adorable!

    First I roll it, scratch it, smash it then crunch it. Smush some on the counter for human and me! What a rollercoaster of feelings. Those horn worms... Ahh I thought those green ropes were things for the worms to crawl on, nope those are the worms.

    Interesting that a domesticated raccoon maintains their natural instinct for certain foods. Mine preferred mealy worms over the assortment of human palatable foods. Dry kibble was mine's very last choice on each and every plate.

    I have to say, after watching I've learnt to respect those roaches' shells. In the past I'd never thought about how well they'd actually do, but this video makes it possible to really see and hear the claws scratching off the armour. I can imagine how it'd protect them long enough to survive an attack if they were in an environment with more places to run away to.

    ​@Mina Katzu Even if the raccoon is a bit fat, the thing is she's not OBESE. Some people don't feed their raccoons the right diet or take them to get exercise which leads to them getting overweight. The raccoon in this video looks around the average size, if not then a bit bigger, which shows that her owners make sure she's not only getting her exercise, but has a pretty healthy diet as well.

    The Life and Times of a raccoon, that was definitely a WOW, I've never seen a raccoon participate in this type of function, it's enlightening to say the least, it is the struggle for an animal in the wild meaning is this a staple food that a raccoon wood eat in the wild.

    I'm a little disturbed that the bugs were still alive when Piper ate them, although I guess that is the way she'd do it in the wild. Thanks for the informative video! It's interesting to see a pet raccoon getting in touch with its natural roots, even if it can be a little gross at times.

    Bugs don’t die peacefully in their sleep in nature. This is natural. And quicker than freezing or starvation.

    @@chonkeyrex7688 Many bugs have pain receptors and are quite intelligent, there’s a type of caterpillar that will disguise itself as a Queen ant then once it’s let into the hive it eats all the ant larvae and taking over. We shouldn’t assume they don’t feel pain or lack intelligence just because they aren’t cute and fluffy like a commonly loved animal (dog, cat, rabbit, etc)

    Yeah just read more into it says they donit when disturbed and the hiss is their way of trying to scare away predators. Probably doesn't work in most cases from the vids I've seen lol

    Pretty amazing to see his survival instincts. He wanted to neutralise the roaches before he ate them. This is a theory on why cats play with their food too, to avoid facial bites.

    OMG I'm not sure this should actually be funny but I found myself LAUGHING with him playing catch and release with the hissing roaches just as cats do also... Very amusing to watch and it is in their nature to eat insects so I do not see anything wrong with giving them their natural nutrition that they would find in the wild.

    I just rescued my first baby raccoon who’s mom was hit by a car. How would you recommend going about getting her out of the play biting at this stage before it gets out of hand when she is older?

    I feed a mother and babies at night in my yard. they get peanuts and dry dog food and sometimes hot dogs. they will eat a sandwich out of my hand. they are certainly cute animals.

    Raccoons sensory nerves in their paws activate with moisture. Like to see how raccoon acts during the taste test knowing there is a drop of water on the counter they can drag what they are eating to get it wet. Seemed like the raccoon was using the bugs gut moisture to further sense?
