WILL IT START?? Locked up Detroit Diesel in a Michigan Loader

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Today on the channel we take a look at this Michigan 55A Series II loader. This has been in the family for almost 35 years but has not seen any real use as of late. An ash tree fell on it and knocked off the muffler and we didn’t realize until after water had gotten in the cylinders of the 3-53 Detroit Diesel and locked it up. Can we get it started and back to work? Tune in to find out!!

From experience when an engine first moves, then completly locks up, it's one of 4 things: 1. Its rusted to hell and back, in that case, take the head of and gently persuade the pistons with a wirewheel, a Hammer and a Block of wood. 2. You are the genius that locked an engine into the point 0, it's a mess to make a turn happen again, dunno about the english term but in german it's called the "Nullpunkt". 3. The engine compresses water, but that Doesn't really lock it, it feels springy. 4. It overheated at one point and the pistonrings are now married to the block till death take them apart... Hope i wrote something useful for the make it happener out there, over and out.

I always undo the alternator belts unless they are needed for other functions, as alternators have a tendency to get stuck due to their ventilation holes.

In case you want to use vinegar or any other acid in an open cylinder, you can soak a rag or a paper towel and apply it again the cylinder wall (and cover it to avoid evaporation). You can also use a bottle to sandwich your rag...

Could it run again? Sure could, but is it worth the time and money if you really have no use for it? Would make for great KZread content and we all would love to see it . But I would think the engine will need pulled and the more you dig into it the worse it would get till you're doing a full rebuild on it

That is why you should always put a coffee can or soup can over the exhaust pipe and intake pipe if exposed when storing it. Once water get's into the engine your screwed and it seems that thing has been getting water in it for a long time.

In order to try to pull the piston and liner, you'd have to drop the oil pan and disconnect the connecting rod, and attempt to knock the piston out from below. Then attempt to putt the liner. Better eat your wheaties!

The earliest thing to do is take oil pan off unbold the position rod take a bottle Jake wood and either pop the piston up or take the hole sleeve with it and replace that and possibly the bearings. Or after sleeve and piston out take it to a press and push it down and hone it out

If you can get a needle scaler where you can use it on the wall and top of the piston then soak that piston good. Just remember that engine has an air box down the side that it breathes through. If you get flammable liquid in it a runaway condition is very likely when it starts.

What a crowd of bodgers! Try to undo a head bolt with a length of pipe on a Ratchet! It's perfect clear from the outset the piston(s) are rusted in the bores. Even if they did get it started the debris from the bores would get into the oil and do the bearings a world of no good! Complete engine strip, At least a hone and new rings, maybe a rebore and os pistons. But I suppose this is American consumer society, take a perfectly usable machine, abandon it, "Oh it's broken, buy a new one"! Doh!

Will it start is stupid…. It will not work under load or be worthwhile without a chunk of money and a rebuild. All these Jerry riggers with ideas of what to pour in the cylinders don’t build engines. Not trying to condescend but it’s just hard to watch people waste time on an engine without saying something
