I never see anyone carry a Point File like I used for over 50 years instead of emery paper. Grit gets left and the points can burn. A near worn out acrylic nail file is diamond dusted and will do a fast and good job.

Hell that was our tow truck in Northern Ontario in the early 60s. The gunners seat roof opened up for sniping. My Dad switched over the drive to left hand. At 5 years old I drove it around the property on the 24volt starter only. Key off, push button starter, bull low would take down 8inch trees.

There used to be one of those, when I was a kid out on Dolphin point NSW. We used to climb all over it as kids. I think it was owned by Kelly's shell grit. Hi John. The carburetor was rebuilt that’s why I was putting it back on in the video. It could have well had a hornet’s nest in it on the bench possibly but I think the only problem with the carby at the moment is the fuel supply not hooked up to it. It’s only running off what I’m tipping into the bowl. You may well be right but once it has a fuel supply it will help determine if there’s anything else needed from the carby. Thanks John

It's always a good idea when you are sanding or filing points that you turn the Sandpaper upside down so you're using the back side of it and run it through the points after you're done sanding what happens in a piece of sand from the Sandpaper will get in between the points and stop it from sparking I've seen this many times in the last 30 years it's so easy to do and so easy to check and so easy to forget. That is a very cool ride I hope you get it where it can be used again in some limited fashion. Thanks Bob from Virginia USA

Hi Steve, great video . I was going to suggest that you do a video on the one you have out back next to that lowboy trailer you moved. I forgot you had one close to the shop. I like that old body style of the cab. Wouldn't mind having one of those trucks myself and put a Cummins diesel from a dodge pickup in it if it would fit. You going to do more videos of the shows? That last one had a lot of nice old equipment there. You are going to have to do a startup video on one of the old farm tractors in the near future.
@stevesplacedownunder
Жыл бұрын
The one next to the trailer is the ford v8 blitz. She’s stuck that one. I got it years ago and have had trans fluid down the plug holes. We will do one on it, whether it’s a start up or a fix it video. They are a great looking cab. You’d have to do the trans and diff as well to make it easier to use and a decent road speed. Maybe the cab onto a late model dodge 4x4 would be the go. I will video any shows that I go to. The last one I went to in the trucks was rained out. But got some in cab stuff of the white 4000. The tractors I will be doing as well mate. The last tractor one I put up didn’t do so well but that was early in my KZread journey. Plenty more to come Neil.

Blitzes and bren gun carriers were used here a lot in the 50s cos poor buggers couldn't afford tractors. There gearing was so low they would pull like buggery! For a little low horsepower motor. Got to play with a few as a kid. Be careful you don't take a swig out of the stubby with the petrol in it!

Have a 1990 toyota that had a real head scratcher issue. She would cough and fart occasionally, but refused to run for more than a few revolutions. As spark was intermittent, i in turn Replaced coil, distributor cap, rotor and condenser, points, all leads checked and cleaned all wiring, earthing connection, including trying powering coil directly from battery, and bypassing ballast resistor. Checked dizzy insulator for points wire entry, vacuum advance operation and still no luck. Checked compressions, even replaced all spark plugs. After all that i decided to start pulling dizzy apart, and noticed baseplate earth had an oily film on body contact surface. gave it a clean, and tried again. She instantly fired up, and ran sweet. 3 months later issue was back. So checked same connection again, even replaced that baseplate braided earthing wire, no luck. Eventually decided to try putting back old parts i had replaced, one at a time. Turned out the new condenser (Japanese made) had died, after only 500km's. They may be simple systems, but they sure can be frustrating at times.
@stevesplacedownunder
Жыл бұрын
Hi mate great comment. I know what your saying. The most basic stuff can sometimes be a head scratcher. That’s what this one was like, the points weren’t earthing through the distributor. She’s had years of rain on it and all the old wiring was all corroded connections. I copped a lot of nasty comments over it from armchair experts no doubt some of them know what they are doing but until you are actually here seeing it, the input doesn’t mean too much too me, unless it’s friendly advice. I don’t like replacing stuff in these start up videos because I like showing how things will go with the parts they were sitting with. Money will make anything go. One bloke said that I near filed the points away but they were that corroded, which the camera didn’t show. Anyway mate I will be doing a drive video on it when I get a chance and she will behave then. Great comment again mate and thanks for watching

Correct , Canadian Military pattern truck was designed by Ford to British specifications . They were built by GM Canada in Oshawa Ont. and by Ford Canada in Toronto . Other than engines and a few other components most other parts were interchangeable. There were somewhere around 800.000 of these things built . There are still quite a few of them kicking about , I came across one that was deep in bush in Northern Ontario , it was nowhere near any road at all . It was the dead of winter , it looked like it had been there for 30 years then . that was close to 40 years ago.

Just as a matter of interest for you. When you gunna' try and get an old donk running its always best to take the points right out of the dissy, clean the base and the face's and just make shore all connections are clean and tight. Spend a bit of time on all your before you try and start it work and it'll save you a hell of a lot of grief and unneseccary fuckin' around. Also, really you should give their throats a dose of oil and wind them over without the plugs in just to lube the rings and walls then don't be shy giving it a drink to start it with. There will be sludge and build up in the manifold and ports that will soak up some of the fuel before it gets to the point of fire and brimstone. Love all the old stuff.

There used to be one of those, when I was a kid out on Dolphin point NSW. We used to climb all over it as kids. I think it was owned by Kelly's shell grit. I'd reclean the carburetor again throughly everything this time that way you'll know it's totally cleaned out ready to go.

Great comment again mate and thanks for watching
the condensor may be short cct...the dist is loose...how about setting the points....make a half decent job of the wiring.....youve just about filed the points away.....clean them.....check the carbon brush on the top of the dist cap..... Gavin.

G'day Mate, I love the old Blitz trucks, & I always kicked myself for not buying one that I cam across back in the late 70s. I still have an original WW2 workshop manual for them & they made quit a few different configurations & models of the old banger. The workshop manual is for the CMP or Canadian Military Patent vehicles & when they are running right they would climb Mt Kosciusko without missing a beat & I will keep an eye on your build & hope everything goes well for you mate.

Great stuff mate great comment. I’m sure you could still get one if you were keen. There were a lot in Australia. That manual would be very interesting. Yes they sure would climb well, that’s the reason behind using them in the bush and as tractor’s I’d say. Thanks a lot mate

Hi Colin thanks for watching and the nice comments. It does need to be restored mate indeed. If I have success with the channel and get it to a stage where I can do it full time, eventually I hope, these are the exact things I will be sharing with you. I still have another chev one to pick up not far from me and a bunch of parts so that will help if this does happen. Thanks again Colin

Hi mate, it is a great vehicle. To be honest I had to look up what trucks they used because I wasn’t familiar with it. Ford and chev were definitely used and was the right era but whether it was the cmp/blitz trucks I don’t know. Be a great vehicle for it being 4wd. I have another chev one like this and a ford one also, ford I’d a sidevalve v8. If you go into my channel, the latest video is of it driving. Check that one out mate

Hi Scott yes it’s a 216 in this one. She has a lot of open, rough wiring so I’d say it was a corroded connection between the coil and the dizzy, battery maybe. There was that hot one I couldn’t find till it burnt me😂. Good fun playing with them
