We all started somewhere. And that truck is a pretty easy straightforward project to start on.
Your reaction when you started the engine was the best part of the video
Your pop and grandpop are smiling!
The look of joy on your face was amazing.
As a Ford man. Best thing I heard you say was Motorcraft parts. If you want to get the best out of your Ford, use Motorcraft parts! Enjoying the videos, cool to watch someone learn the ropes of wrenching lol 👍
Damn 19,000 subs your doing something right. Just be your self don't let anybody tell you can't do anything so I guess you are proving the doubters WRONG. I think u just started your channel recently that is quite the traffic for such a short time.
Way to go buddy. Your dad is proud and smiling down on you. And hats off to Mom!!
Your expression when it fired up 😂 Good job bro, hope you enjoy and drive your truck for a long time👍🇺🇸 I think leaving the patina would give it a survivor look but it's your choice do what makes you happy 😁
Rule #1: always take the old parts with you when going to the parts store or a cell phone pic.🤔

Congrats on getting her started! Marvel Mystery Oil is a very good internal engine cleaner. But you should change the oil and filter after about 500 miles after adding it. It's going to clean out the old gunk and move it into your filter and oil.

@@MyLife31 yes run it for awhile but do a quick change. What drains will tell you a lot about your internals.
Use silicon grease or similar on the fuel sending unit to gas tank seal O ring. Don't run a pump dry for very long at all without being submerged in gas. They lubricate/cool by the gas flow.
Your channel and series has given me the confidence to work on the 86 Élan thunderbird that's been sitting in my parents garage, thank you for the boost in confidence for learning about cars. It'll be my first car if all goes well!
These trucks were built to run forever! My grandfather used to say," Those engines all they want is to run!"
Great job buddy!!! I felt that way when I bought my 1st mustang.. 67 mustang fastback that sat outside for 20 yrs before I bought it

I would of pulled the coil wire and cranked it over until I got oil pressure, then attempt to start it. Congratulations!
I had a 91 F-150, but mine had 2 tanks. Had to replace both tanks and sending units after I got it. It was a dependable beast. 300 straight six and 5 speed manual. When it comes to these older vehicles, I like to use 15W50 diesel truck oil. It seems to work better for higher mileage older engines.
dont leave it as is....paint it...the truck deserves that much ....think how nice it will look with new paint
Keep up th good work. Just for future. You don't need to unbolt the fuel filter hanger. Once you remove the lines just pry the filter out. It's exciting seeing a younger generation trying to learn and fix stuff on there own
When i saw your first videos a couple weeks back i expected this to blow up. Its not just the mustang project thats interesting, its the geniuine honesty and optimism to tackle something outside of your comfort zone. I am glad this i working out and we can clearly see you changing into a more comfortable youtuber. Editing is also getting better. Thank you.
That generator though!!! That thing is awesome!! And of course it will start, it is a Ford.
As far as it idling a little fast. That my calm down after it runs for awhile. I bought a 92 F150 it idled around 2,000 rmp. Put a throttle positioning sensor on it. Took care of that problem. As far as parts stores they can sure be aggravating when people behind the counter doesn't know what they're talking about or get a glazed over look when you start telling them what you want. If you have an independent parts store ,may check with them. Here at home I go to an independent own parts store and everyone behind the counter knows what they are talking about. Keep up the good work I enjoy the videos.
Guard dog? She's a SHOP dawg. Just hangin' out. Which makes you a bona fide mechanic now even if you are learnin' LOL. Also, I'd color polish what's there and then clear coat it all. It's still have a sort of patina but will shine. And be easy to keep shined.
Thats pretty kool everybody had to learn at one time You doin pretty good

Good job! I agree with you're reasoning for getting the truck up and running first. I'm enjoying watching you work on either of those vehicles, do it however you want so you enjoy it most because if you're having fun we're having fun too! Keep up the good work and thank you for bringing us along for the ride!✌👍👍

I appreciate you watching and commenting Greg. I'm really having a lot of fun so far.
you dont have to remove the fuel filter holder from the truck to change it, the dark spot on the air filter is from the valve cover port that comes in under the filter, most engines have to relearn the idle if the battery is removed, or dies, warm it up drive above 40 mph for ten mins if i remember correctly, grats on having a truck to drive now.
When possible I bring the old part with me to the parts store. I've had well experience salesman sell me incorrect parts. When I bring in the old part, I rarely leave with the wrong part. Good luck my friend.
Good for you ! It will take time to learn all of the ins & outs , but it's cheaper to fix things yourself . The truck is going to be good practice for what you'll need to know to truly fix that "Stang" up . They're all different & similar at the same time . It gets easier though , & you will build up your self-confidence with every challenge you overcome , every time . You just need to believe in yourself , & experience will help you do that . One day your brother will ask your opinion on something he's working on , & then you'll know you've come a long way . I always put oil in the filter before installing a new 1 , it will pressurize your oil system faster , saving the lifetime of your bearings . So good job .
I give you a lot of credit. Ignore the hateful comments that you might get, a lot of guys forget how they started off.
Smart man. Trucks are certainly useful doing this. And that will be super cool using your grandpa's car to help fix you dads
Good job! Just be careful standing by the front of the engine after they’ve been sitting for a while, belts can fly apart and hit you.
A PCV hose hooks into the side of the Filter Box. Discolored the air filter.
Love the excitement! Im going to get my dads 95 f150 this weekend and take it home. Cant wait to see what im getting myself into. But i gotta get that old truck back on the road.
Your joy at success in this project reminds me so much of how I felt when I completed my first "big" repair on my T-Bird about 1961! It was my first car, a 1956 model. I actually replaced a rear wheel bearing, did it all myself, but with close counseling from my Dad. If you go to Ronald Finger's restoration of a Firebird (I think the channel is "fingerprints") He started out at roughly the same level as yourself, but without a garage to work in at the time. I think you'll find it very encouraging to yourself as a Newcomer to the wrench!
I'm fixing up a 1989 F150 myself. It's a Super Cab with the 5.0 V8 and 8 foot bed. It even has power windows and door locks!!
Aye man love these series! I’m 17 and I own a old classic muscle car too! I’m also learning how to work on cars and such!

@Wade Bawden, what is your ride, out of curiosity? If you come to the Twin Cities area in Minnesota, there is literally a big junkyard that has all sorts of old, as well as new, model cars to restore, and even a few to sell to you for a good price as well. The name of the place is called French Lake Auto Sales.
Man watching your vids remind me of when I first started building. Good to see your Victories and accomplishments on your own. Congrats! Keep the vids rolling
Next time you try to do a tank just set a wrench up on top of thebolt boxed and then you can tighten the bolts up on the bottom .have put in many gas tanks over the years usually 1/2 full or so
"I need some wipers for a 93 F150." Parts store employee: "Is that 2-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive?" Me: 🤨
joined this channel cause i bought a beat up old 1970 mustang hardtop 2 door. love the content, I'm learning along side you brother keep it going!
Good job, great enthusiasm. And remember, everybody has to learn somewhere. And with all of the how to videos on KZread these days, learning couldn't be any easier. And as far as parts stores go, it's true, they hire anybody these days and so many of them don't know their ass from their elbows. Sometimes, it is best to bring the old part with you, so that you can match it up, just to make sure it is right, before you have to make 2 trips. But if you search around your area, you may find that 1 parts place is more knowledgeable than the others. Thanks for the video.
Excellent Job on putting that tank in brother, bravo.
Keep at it, good to see a young fella wanting to learn and get his hands dirty.

@TheSkullReviews, you should appreciate someone that likes fixing the vehicle rather than judge them due to their age. Good mechanics are like good artists, they let their work speak for themselves and they also are like good artists as well, as they also let their skills and vehicles become art forms in and of themselves.
I recommend some underbody coating. Based on your accent seems like you could be somewhere in Alabama like me or at least the south so salted roads aren’t a big issue. But with this truck being as old as it is, I’d recommend some just to stop the rust corrosion (or at least slow it)
I have a 93 f150 5.0 302 and I run ford Motorcraft 15w-40 diesel motor oil in it! Run great no problems
A big tip regarding the wrong fuel pump and sending unit. I learned when working on my old F-250 is bring the part you need to replace into the parts store that way the parts guy knows what you need. Also as far as motor oil I prefer Mobil One it's great oil.
I watch a ton of car videos but I never work on my car myself. In theory, I know what needs to be done but I don't do it myself. I'm not a mechanic but keep trying keep learning.. everyone has to start somewhere. Great channel. Let's see more of that mustang
That air compressor is awesome. Don’t forget to drain the water out of it
This is exactly how excited I was the first time I replaced a sending unit. It is good seeing more people getting into the hobby! You have a LOT of fun and some frustration ahead of you!! Haha. It is a blast! I use mobile 1 oil for good vehicles, Walmart supertech for cheap rides. Surging idle could also be a vacuum leak.
Great video glad you got it running I learned some stuff from this video you definitely need to do a part 3 of seeing what works washing it giving it a tuneup painting the frame and putting the bed back on and end it off with a burnout. I wouldn’t paint the truck it looks kind of cool how it is but if this was my truck I would get some diamond plated running boards like the toolbox they sell them on eBay and even though the exhaust sounds Good I would change it to a straight pipe or a glass pack those set up sound really good in my opinion
It will start, that is all I can give ya brother.... Sitting for 17/18 years can cause electronics to stick, and rubber to deteriorate... That is a computer truck so I know this, if you can get it running, over time, more things will come alive.
Good job. Check the oil level to see if it's low, Or too full. Don't forget to flush the cooling system. Make sure to keep an eye on the engine temperature for awhile. Stuck thermostat is common on vehicles that have sat. Make sure transmission fluid is full..and rear diff fluid should be on the list of things to do. Again. Good job.
Why be frustrated with the truck when youve got that awesome mustang sitting right over there?

Give you credit for trying, and learning, don't give up!
I remember when they were brand new. Very sharp looking and everyone wanted one. Sometimes it doesn’t seem like it was that long ago. After watching this video it sure does.
I love you energy, you would make good front man for this channel. I always try to take the old part with me to the part store to help get the right parts. I use Castrol 10W30 regular oil. It will start and run. Stay away from the man made before the year 2000 it will lose a little oil pressure. I am sending you a high five for getting started. Check the transmission fluid when it get warm.
I just love the Sheer delight you have the minute you heard it fire to life. i had the same expression when i got my tahoe running again after a year plus of it being torn down Kudos

@@MyLife31 , I heard that there are some fairly popular KZread auto repair channels that are from Tennessee or near Tennessee. I wonder if you know any of those people, like Dylan McCool, for example, out of curiosity?
It's good to bring your old parts to the McParts store to be sure you're getting the correct piece. NAPA is sometimes better than O'Reillys, Autozone, and Advance, but other times it's the same part for more $. So it can pay to research those stores online for price and part number. That's a hella nice shop, and it would be ultra kickass if you finished it out with windows and doors and a concrete floor. I guess they worked on heavy equipment in there. Excellent plan to test the pump and the float/potentiometer before locking it all down and burying it under the bed. Test as soon as you can, as you go. Test before it's all buttoned up. Dang smart having a fire extinguisher there too! Today's parts store situation is a result of those corporations trying to make their POS computers do all of the thinking, so that the counter clerk don't have to. Sometimes they'll turn their screen so that you can see and double check on the selection. Think I would've gone ahead and started the engine and let it warm up, after checking the coolant, and let the old oil get hot so it drains better, but you'll still be OK. Two or three pours to the top of the new oil filter will be enough for a normal startup, with no lifter noise and the oil pressure gauge needle rising normally, and you won't spill as much as if you'd filled it. I used to put them on dry and grit my teeth waiting for that needle to rise, and later on I would fill and spill. But now I just to the two to three pours, and that's my favorite way of doing it. Five seconds sounds like a good guess. It sounds good! I was wondering if those were Flowmasters. It has Traction-Lock too - two-wheel-peel! Hell yeah! I figgered it would start pretty quick too - it only took about 1.5 to 2 seconds! You might want to go back and double check those fuel line 'click-connecters,' and make sure they're locked in all the way. If they're the ones with the plastic U-clips you should be good, but it they're the kind with the circular spring deal, double check 'em. I had one blow off while charging the AC in a Fox Body Stang one time...
Good job! Something I learned the hard way, take the old part with you go to the parts store. Saves so many trips! Lol!

@@MyLife31thise partucular fuel pumps are confusing as there were so many variations of them, mid tanks, 2 styles of rear tanks, dual takns etc - probably 6 different choices
It’s a very cool truck, I have the same one a shortbox flareside with 300 I6 and 5 spd manual, my fuel guage hasn’t worked in agaes I just watch my mileage. It is the most reliable truck I have ever owned and I’ve had many I’m in my 60’s The spot on your air filter is oil from the pcv vent that has the small filter inside the air cleaner box I knew that truck would run as soon as I saw the truck, it’s just what they do
Great job I love those body styles my first truck was a 96 loved it
Hey man awesome to watch you fix up the old trucks and cars learning how to work on them keep it up
You guys are so lucky, the way you guys live. Stay safe
So very happy for you. Well done. Suggestion, get that mystery oil out. And always take the parts off your vehicle and match them up at the parts store to avoid frustrations. Keep trucking.
Nice videos. Great fun to watch. Keep em coming👍. Greetings from Norway😀
Yes it'll run and idle! Those f150s are tanks in that body style
Dude, it's exciting for everyone watching and cheering you on!!! I love that kinda stuff to, gives good feelings, like progress
I've had a few of these trucks and I'm willing to bet you the reason it's idling high is due to one (or both) of 2 issues - the truck will run in a high idle if it's not up at temp and running in closed loop (may indicate a stuck open thermostat, etc) OR a vacuum related issue (the vacuum lines love to break since they're thin plastic lines, just put new rubber ones in, or it could be a MAP sensor, etc)
Heck yes it will come to life and stay there for ya
That's why I love Ford... HOOAH!!! What?! That truck has a posi rear-end!!!
Very good, it just needs to be running. Just sitting is what kills em. Got you a real nice every day driver and a parts runner for the Mustang. 🤘😎🇺🇸
Outstanding work so far.
If you want to clean it out get you a can of sea foam pull the brake booster hose off running to the throttle body. Start the truck and let it run and dump half or a full can of sea foam down the hose while it’s running trying not to let it die on you after it’s in there shut the truck off right after the cans empty for 30 minutes put your hose back on and after the 30 minutes start it but there will probably be a lot of smoke from your valves getting cleaned it works really good
Fuck yea man, that feeling when you get it running is the best thing ever

Lol parts stores...worked at one but many there don't know much about the stuff they sell or the machines those parts go in. Good choice on oils and filter. Marvel mystery oil is very good stuff. Has many uses. Keep it going, you are doing great!
Good decision to clean up the frame. Put some antitrust paint on it while you have the energy.
Really am smitten by your candidness. Seem to be a Ford guy which is O K, specially cause you got that sweet ' Stang go'in on there. Answer to your question, Marvel Mystery, good stuff. I prefer Rotella T5 for old trucks and T6 after break in. Do the Wix filter and U'r golden. Have fun and don't get down when things go bad, . . . they will. And that truck WILL fire up ! Cheers.
Sounds great with those Flowmaster mufflers!
If you have removed the old part it is a good idea to take the part with you when buying the replacement to save any confusion also keep your receipts and a record of the new part details and numbers in case you need to make a future replacement. Also it is probably a good idea to clean up and paint parts you take off to avoid future corrosion. Soldering electrical connections is going to last better than crimped connection also you can add some sheathing over multiple wires. I would have even been tempted to splash a bit of extra paint or coating on the new petrol tank cost are kept to a minimum in the production of modern day parts. Great to see you enjoying the project, congratulations on getting it running and your passion

That’s awesome!! So happy for ya!! Your doing a great job and I’m lovin watching your progress on both the truck and Mach 1. The shear excitement and reaction you had says it all!! Keep it up!!
Also also, it’s bad for a fuel pump to be cycled dry. Not that you will damage it from just a couple of times like you did of course. Just an FYI
Looks really cold there build you a 55 gal wood heater and get some heat 🔥 close by.
I always just use motorcraft oil in my fords and in my Jeep XJ. I would say for just daily driving really any of the name brands would be fine. I have never put oil in the filter before installing it. I would say if you can put some in without it spilling when you screw it on that it wouldn't hurt. One thing I do is use some of the old oil and rub it around the oil filter rubber seal to help it seal better. Also, that FL1A filter will work great on that jeep cherokee as well :) Love your videos.
Huge fan of this series and the Mach one! I just want to say that they damn sure don’t make cars like they used too 😂😂😂
Good job buddy like my papaw told me the first time i got a old worn out murray mower up and running again its in ur blood from now on son enjoy it brother you earned it

Good work. Fuel injection makes it easier to get going but it's good practice for an older vehicle
