will it run/drive? rusty vw bus sitting 13 years

Ойын-сауық

I picked this bus up about 14 years ago from a girl that was a groupie for the band phish, she settled down and started a family so the bus just sat. I picked it up and have been gathering parts for it a long time, but its parking spot behind the garage is going to be used for other purposes, lets see if we can get the old girl up and running once more shall we.

These are literally my favorite type of videos that you do Mustie! Every time I find an oldie that's been sitting in a field for a decade + I'm always tempted to go run and grab a battery and some starting fluid and seeing if I can at least get it somewhere covered! I wish I had the time and contacts to do the same in my area except with Volvos. Love your stuff! Keep doing more like this!

"Fahren nur mit verriegelter Schiebetür" "Drive only with locked sliding door" That's what the sticker says on the steering wheel column. (20:14) Very enjoyable videos. I'll be checking back. I love seeing these old VW's restored! When I was 7, in 1969, my dad bought a 1969 VW Beetle. In 1974, he traded it in for a 1974 Super Beetle. My brother and I thought we were moving up in the world with the cool new Super Beetle with the curved windshield and the sunroof! LOL! Thanks for posting these videos. Don't forget... Vergessen Sie nicht! Fahren nur mit verriegelter Schiebetür!

Love this video. It's nice to see the old VW running again. Even those rusty old "parts buses" can be fixed up, given enough time and money. The prices of VW campers are going through the roof, so almost anything is worth fixing up. I've got a 1971 Westfalia camper that was given to me back in 1999. It's a California bus that was mostly rust free, however it was missing some key parts. But scrounger that I am, I found everything I needed and rebuilt the engine to a 1776 cc size. It runs very nicely and turns some heads with its new blue/white paint job. Regards, Tom

I used heat , impact driver and finally bent my craftsman 1/2" breaker bar ! Had to cut the nut in half with a moto tool with 1" cutoff disks . Will be awaiting the continued story . By the time you finish building all the new panels you’ll be an expert panel beater if you’re not already... Nice find. It was a necessary but sad day when I sold my ‘69 pop top Westy- someday I’ll have another. I’ve still got a freshly rebuilt never run 1776 in the back of the shop that was intended for that Bus. Might wind up in a Beetle though. It was assembled with Gene Berg semihemi machined bugpak heads with an Engle over a new NOS forged crank. Estimated 115 horsepower from John (the VW guru here in Vermont) that machined the heads and set the compression height.

This is the third video of this nature I have watched- getting an OLD VW bus to run after eons of sitting. It always feels to me like I am watching one of those videos of a stray dog that has been abandoned, out in the wild, raw and afraid of humans. It is a matter of putting down some treats and gaining its confidence before a leash can be put around its neck, put in a car, given a wash and some love to get the doggie back to its friendly nature. Who knew rehabilitating Micro Buses was a thing?
