Will I Make It Up Silver Canyon Road in a Heavy Van?
Join me this week for a thrilling adventure as I take on the Silver Canyon Road outside of Bishop in my Storyteller Overland Classic Mode (based on a Mercedes Sprinter 4WD). Although not technically challenging, this narrow, winding path has a steep switchback towards the end. It would have been fine if I were in a smaller vehicle like a Jeep Wrangler or a Ford Bronco, but will I be able to make it in this heavy van? Watch and find out!

I used to think I could get to way more places than a Sprinter in my Nissan NV3500 with 4WD. Now I’ve changed my mind or you just have way more guts. I would not have attempted some of this. You win!

Ha, I do have a big gut, at least that's what my trainer tells me. :D You can probably still get to more places than me. The Sprinter's height is pretty limiting.
Amazing! I have a Jeep Wrangler Sport and I wouldn't do that trail...so narrow and steep. Thanks for getting your feet wet for a good cause. :)

Thanks for sharing! I'm looking at 4x4 camper van platforms for a future build, either Sprinter, or Quigley Ford E-series. Great to see the limits being reached. It looks like your van would do well with larger tires.

To be fair, if I pushed it, it probably could have made it. But in the middle of nowhere by myself, i just didn't want to push it into limp mode. For what I do, I'm very happy with the tire size. But I know plenty of people who up the size. I have a Wrangler, so if the trail gets tougher, I would just switch to that. This is more like a base camp for me. If you want to do true Wrangler style off-roading though, no van really beats Quigley Ford. You give up interior space, and insulation if you choose to do pop-up. But you gain compact size and true locking diffs.
Very cool.. did you modify your STO 360 camera? I don’t think I can turn on 360 camera while moving forward in my STO? I love the eastern Sierras and held my breath while you crossed that stream!

Yes, I have the Midcity mod. Even without the mod, you should still be able to keep the camera on under certain speed. When you're doing off-road obstacles, you're probably not exceeding those speed.
Your sprinter has tire pressure sensors?! Mine doesnt, a 2019 3500XD 4x4

Really? I didn't know this is an option. I didn't really get to pick anything on the van, though. Storyteller did the build, so I just got whatever they have.
