I feel like there are people out there who would be more than happy to just give you an old horse they knew would be well cared for.

I would have no trouble finding an old free horse....BUT, I need to have a long term plan for them. For every horse that I am feeding long term, many others will not get the opportunity to go through my program

@@TheCleverCowgirl well I was thinking specifically of the companion horse for skeletor. There are people who just can't afford or can't maintain horses anymore but are attached to them and would just prioritize them getting a nice owner.

@@lostribe5130I don't think it is her intention to keep Skeletors paddock mate for more than the year he's being rested for. After that the horse or mule would have to be sellable. Which is why she doesn't want an old free horse that she would have to keep until it passed away. Just my take on what I believe her plan is.

I find it wonderful of you to share your idea. Sometimes we may share a thought that the other person had not considered. It does no harm to share and personally I prefer sharing an idea that does not get used than remain quiet and later learn that it would have been helpful. ❤🎉So YaY for YoU sharing a good idea and who knows, it may help someone else who reads it much later on🎉❤

There is alot more to it than people realize, I think people need to see the reality of trying to find a horse at a sale like this!
I adore mules. They are rock solid in just about any condition. My step dad had several. He was a packer/guide in the Bob Marshal in the 80s. When I lived in AZ I was lucky to have one as my regular ride. Even in monsoon downpours in the mtns he never missed a step. My friend here in Libby has one he raised from a colt that I love. Scooter is a mischievous turd, but also bomb proof. LOL A good mule is priceless IMO.

Just as long as you don’t think he is invincible to the point of abuse as many people do around Animals, they think they are theirs to do as the please and cast them aside when no longer useful as we all see at the Horse sales!

The horses and mules looked fairly healthy at this sale. Some lameness issues, but all looked well fed. I hope they all went to kind homes. ❤

I contacted alot of people trying to find a home for him, but it is just so hard to get a good home for a horse like him. I need to work on a bigger property...
I admire your ability to juggle suitability, emotions, and cost. I don't think most people understand how truly difficult that can be especially when you have to do it at lightening speed! My emotions would have me bringing home every animal with a human inflicted injury. LOL You are a treasure and I love your videos! I can't wait to see what perfect companion you find for Skelly. Hugs
Cannot put into words how much Nigel has changed my life. I watch so many horse care videos, but have never run across such an inspirational little pony.

I love the auctions bc you talk about the horses and explain why or why not you will be buying them. That is really helpful. I also like that you go for the horse that no one else wants. I think Huckleberry is hilarious.

Me too Maria!
I’ve never been to a horse auction but I know my heart would not do well…just like when I go to a dog/cat shelter. The animals have so much anxiety, fear, they’re unsure, etc. I feel it and it affects me deeply. All my pets have been rescues. Thank you for being you.
I’m so impressed on your thoughts on this auction, appreciate it ♥️
You are a good judge of these horses and it is a learning experience for me when you explain the reasons of the whys and why nots. Thank you again for letting us ride along. 😊

It's interesting how you talk us through each horse you're looking at and letting us know what you are seeing. What would make that horse a good companion for Skeletor or behavior or health issues that you would pass on. I don't know anything about horses so it very educational. The perfect companion is out there somewhere. Thank you for taking us along on the journey!! 🥰

Good morning, C.C.! Best of luck finding a good buddy for Skeletor. Thank you for taking us along for the ride.
Thank you for taking us along to the auction, your dialogue accompanied was well done and very informative of how you decide on a horse or mule purchase. Combined with the video this was another excellent presentation. 👍
❤ The first Auction. It is great when horses go to good homes, sad when some have health issues due to neglect. Looking forward to the next auction and you finding the right companion for Skeletor ❤

The problem is she can find the perfect horse, but then gets outbid. She's smart enough to know when to get out. It could have been another channel, but I think she got one horse she wanted by contacting the person after the auction. I'm pretty good at buy and sell, but not at auctions. Items tend to go for too much.

It's always exciting at the auctions.
Guess it’s a spin of the wheel at these auctions like you said maybe next time
Thanks for taking us along!
Auctions are so heartwrending. . . Being a knowledgable vet trained equestrian, it must be very hard for you. Like all animals, life can be very unpredictable and unfair, through no fault of their own. But, the fact that you are searching for an older sensible horse/ mule is wonderful. I imagine alot of the older ones just get passed over due to thier age. In a perfect world, all domesticated animals would be able to live out thier lives in peace, contentment, love and good care till the end of their days. I know I am naive and simple, but all things are possible with the Lord God. I really hope you find that needy perfect fit for Skelly. Bless you girl!

I was really hoping you'd get that older Mule. I've never been around a mule, but am a little obsessed with them lately, so I'd love to hear your comments and watch you work with one. I had been thinking that maybe you could pony Skele with your 4x4, but using a quiet, older animal makes much more sense, as it would also be his calming companion during the other 20 hours in the day. I always learn something new from you. For example, I thought it was for your horses' sakes that you isolate new animals, but when you point out that the new animal's stress level from change/travel/auction does a number on their immune system, this made perfect sense. Looking forward to more auctions in search of Skele's calm, healing partner :) Thank you for taking us along, CC.

Love the shady quarantine nook for any new find. ❤ 10:20 awww, that's a sad looking knee on the white faced horse. Hope he found a good home.
Thanks for taking us to the first auction of the year. Wow, I would have a very hard time because I would want to bring all the "broken & bruised" ones home, You have experience doing this, know what you want, set your price & stick to your guns! Comes from having run the course a few times with "hard re-habs". I totally admire you!!!😊❤. God bless....
Love your truth ❤ thank for sharing your knowledge ❤
One may wonder, whether most really nice older horses in many cases just end up being retired by their owners as pets and stay the corse at home, instead of making it to an auction. A personal horse is easy to emotionally attach to.
I’m always happy to see a new video from you. Thanks! 💜💜💜
I’m so happy to open you tube and see the queen posted a video!! ❤

The way you look at and evaluate the horses before the auction and in the bidding is very interesting to me and also to find out what they sell for

That was very fun to see. It is also difficult because you want every horse to have a nice home. ❣️🍀
Your knowledge about horses, in general, is impressive. Each horse that came through, that talked about, you were really on point with them. You go girl. Take care, God bless.
I love hearing and watching you talk about the auctions and your critical thought process on each horse. Also love watching your videos on your own horses and your interpretation of their horse language. Very helpful!
I hope you get your fox trotter.

17:45 CC, what color is this 2yo mare please? I've seen many beautiful horses on YT but THIS girl made my eyes pop, my body sat up military strong and my heart...oh my heart sang for her❣️ I'm not an equestrian so don't know majority of colors and I've Never, online or in the world, seen a horse color like hers. I would name her, Walking in Moonlight, Moon for short, because she reminds me of one of my most treasured loving memories of a moonlit night in Sausalito CA with my late fiancé. So I'm hopeful to know the color, thank you Dear. And to be sure I'll join you on every auction as I do each day you post. Your quarantine area is an absolute dream and the FIRST time I saw trees on the property plus my first knowing there is a stream I'll name, Huckleberry's No-Stink-Stream Thank you Dear for sharing your amazing loving caring life with horses with us. Also, the way you conduct yourself at the auctions, being aware of others and stepping back to let a family bring a good horse home or not bidding against a rescue for a horse in great need, all this speaks to your beautiful character.

That was an interesting, and cool trip to the auction for me. I like how you sum everything up rather quickly and to the point. It's clear that you have a wide experience with horses and mules because you are very knowledgeable in so many categories, and point out signs for health, injuries, and even some tale telling scars. It is fascinating how you can ascertain lifestyles and history from just observing their gait, posture, and other characteristics that I am clueless about. That is partly why I say cool in the first sentence. I'm sure that you will find a good companion for Skeletor, and patience usually leads to satisfaction. Thanks again for a fun and even somewhat exciting, and very enjoyable experience. Stay well, sharp, and safe.
cool stuff, really informative.

When going to an auction have a plan and stick to it. Congratulations on sticking to your plan I know how tempting it is to start biding on a horse you haven’t evaluated . I know how much work 12 horses are so don’t buy on a whim keep focusing on why you are at the auction .
