Will Croatia's Entry To The EU Flood Europe With Guns? (2013)

Arming The EU (2013): 20 years on from the Balkans war and Croatia is still full of guns. And now they're being funnelled from under beds onto the black market. As Croatia enters the EU, will it spark an illegal arms trade boom?

"He is joking - we have enough for one more war!" A group of Croats sitting in the country's lush hillsides laugh knowingly at the suggestion that around here everyone has a few weapons stashed in the cupboard. But the armaments legacy from the Balkans conflict is no joke for the EU. During the war the country couldn't get access to enough weapons so small workshops around the country started up. According to an Interpol investigation, they never shut down. Already being traded for drugs in countries like France, Belgium and Germany, the guns are a problem because they're so difficult to quantify. "This weapon would be very popular with criminals because it is difficult to trace. No special features, no serial number," ballistics expert Damir Tomasek explains. The UN and local police have both undertaken large collection campaigns but neither have been that effective. This is partly due to continued production, but also because unlike the police, criminal gangs will pay for them. While Europe may be worried, the Croatians hope the EU will help solve the problem. "Co-operation from Europe is also very important. We can act against it much earlier through joint action."

    it is the old expression used when the first pistols with magazines appeared on the market more than 100 years ago. The automatic is not referring to the firing but to the reloading. Later they (the military actually) understood it is not really relevant and switched the expression to the firing. The funny thing is that this expression was never fully regulated so you can still hear this expression in Europe used for semiautomatic hunting guns like Beretta A300.

    Ok, now, I can understand why people in Croatia, want to have firearms, even if it is manufactured in illegal workshops. Croatians, were caught, once to many times, disarmed and not able to defend them self. In USA, "The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution reads: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.". Scholars have come to call this theory "the collective rights theory." My question to you is, what is wrong if Croatia has same Constitution?? Remember, in 1991, Croatia was disarmed and attacked by Serbian Forces, which was armed to a teeth and committed a bloodbath. I hope, this will never happen again. I hope, each and every Croatian household will keep firearms, same as Swiss, just in case, if "eastern neighburs " try to make another military excursion on Croatia.

  • @tamer1773

    @tamer1773

    6 жыл бұрын

    The collective rights theory is a recently manufactured, mythical definition of the Second Amendment that was ginned up by the ant-gun zealots who tried to describe the Second Amendment as a "group right" and not an "individual right" that guaranteed arms for the National Guard which is technically under the governors of the individual states, but is effectively a part of the US Army. Such collective rights, according to the left, didn't apply to any of the other nine amendments in the Bill of Rights, just the Second Amendment. In point of fact "well regulated" meant "well trained" and the "militia" was defined in the Federalist Papers, written by the founders, as "the whole of the people" not a National Guard or organized State Militia.

Criminals and mafia still goes on to make whatever they want with weapon, there's a weapon black market, stolen weapons, unregistered weapons used by criminals and law can do almost nothing, while the common citizen has a really hard way to obtain firearms license, to buy them and use them. Even airguns are difficult to find and buy and our law permits only low powered airguns that are little more than toys. It's a shame!

    More than half of those guns are perfectly acceptable to put back into the civilian market since they're shotguns and hunting rifles. As for the handguns they can easily be used for legal defensive carry. If the proper machine guns and assault rifles are really that much of a concern why do the police continue to retain them in this stupid evidence lockup limbo? Why are they taking up space instead of being destroyed? As for Croatia the amount of weapons is small compared to France with its over eight million illegal firearms the EU and France did nothing about primarily from ex Soviet/Warsaw Pact stockpiles.

    no matter if mags, the AK platform itself or many other things the croatian made arms are some of the best when it comes to eastern guns actually my ex was from there and when we visited i saw the leftovers of the war because of burnt out buildings simply left or the people being forced out in one night, signs sprayed on these houses and stories about people slaughtering each other and also that theres alot of people collecting or keeping their guns like AKs that are factory made in all kinds of shapes that US fans of soviet guns can only dream about.. also i wanted to go for a hike on a hill but her grandma told us that we couldnt go there because theres still landmines there man shits crazy but stick to your guns! government is the biggest gang they want to take all from you!

    People here in Croatia want Swiss regieme where we all want to be armed in case of god forbid, same gun laws as in Switzerland would be best solution for Croatia, highly regulated yet allowing you to have guns of any kind as long as you FOLLOW them RULES! Look at the Swiss people... Still here in Croatia our laws arent that bad and gun violence is really rare, gun "accidnts" happen if someone in police most often discharges by accident or negligence and that is like 98% of the time, 2% is by CRIMINALS and not law abiding gun owners. Go figure
