I am excited to go see the James Baldwin movie! And anyone would says, “Billy Porter is no James Balwin” would make me ask “then, who is James Baldwin?” There is NO James Baldwin but James Balwin. His originality, sharpness, empathy, courage to speak truth to power with a soft spoken grace, his ability to present humility and audacity in equal amounts…is unmatched to anyone else. But who would better portray him than Billy? Billy can deliver sharp and quick lines and convey big messages clearly and cleanly. But can he show his rage, his frustration, or even annoyance in a way that is also soft and humble like Baldwin did in interviews? Billy does come off as more of a Malcom X in his delivery than a James Baldwin (and there is obviously absolutely nothing wrong with that). BUT - that’s the acting challenge. I’m excited to see his portrayal of Baldwin. I’m happy he’s helping to bring James Baldwin’s story to more of us. I can’t think of any other actor would be a better fit. I know Billy doesn’t believe my opinion on here matters anyway..lol…but I truly am excited to see him take on this role and think he probably is the best person for the part!

I feel that the LGBTQ community is just as much God's children as any straight person. As a Christian It's my job to love, respect, pray for, help, and not judge them! I may not understand their lifestyle, but it's not for me to understand! Only God can judge them!

I wish I had some obscure small part in the film when it comes out. I would volunteer to play any part, esp. a part for a character that people will completely dislike. Proverbs 6:16-19 lists seven things which are also abominations: "haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are swift in running to mischief, a false witness who utters lies, and one who spreads strife among brothers." Billy doesn't appear to be any of these things.
