Wilfred - A Retrospective

In this one, I break down one of my favorite shows of all time, 'Wilfred' and solve a few mysteries in the show via a deep dive analysis as well as point out several hidden references that you might have missed. In the first half of the video, I walk you through the important plot points of the show. The second half of the video focuses more on solving some of the shows mysteries. Please like and subscribe if you enjoyed this video. I have a lot more videos like this one on the way.
Thank you to Aida Beats, N9NE X and Prod. Riddiman for the excellent music.

When Wilfred says the pills worked, that doesn't necessarily mean they weren't placebos. I think it means the earnest suicide attempt gave Ryan the ego death he needed in order to grow. He was able to let go of being the lawyer's son and wake up the next day to discover himself.

The trailers never did it justice. I remember thinking how stupid it looked when it was first coming out. But for whatever reason I watched it a few years ago and was instantly hooked. Truly a one-of-a-kind show. It's got it all. Its deeper, sillier, more heartfelt, and beautiful than any other show I can think of. You can tell this was Jason Gann's baby. He put so much heart into it and it shows.

the ending of this show was both bittersweet and ironic. coming to terms w/ the "fantasy" of a life that you pursue is often times exactly that and all that you have left is the truth of who you are and living with it. i wanted more for ryan but to see him smile and find some peace of mind moved me very deeply. this show was a masterpiece that i think only those who have truly endeavored through trauma/mental/emotional distress can appreciate.

I think there are a lot of different meanings to the show. Its got layers. There is definitely an undeniable element of what you're saying. The creator of the show Jason Gann is an animal rights activist I believe. In interviews he often talks about the importance of capturing all of the mannerisms or "dogisms" of actual dogs in the show. The guy definitely loves dogs and its clear that a part of him just wanted to make a show about a guy and his dog solving life problems together.

I know my father, a heavier man than Ryan admittedly, can take down a whole bottle over the course of a day when he is rarely sick. That being said, it's not in one sitting. Unless you have pre-existing conditions or did so regularly I don't think it would kill you but as with all things it is ill advised to consume haphazardly. Stress can do horrible things to the body and I think Ryan had been stressed even before his time as a lawyer, so he could very well have issues in his organs that are/were unknown to him. I think many drug abusers looking for that particular sensation can down a bottle with no immediate issue. Based upon what I heard when I was in highschool. I never associated with those types myself and heard that info directly though.

There were even more movies I could have mentioned but left out for the sake of time. And I really wish the show could have ended with some sort of resolution between Ryan and Amanda but it may have lessened the impact of the final message of the show. I think that part of the message was that Ryan had to accept himself and deal with his issues instead of turning to some sort of distraction, Amanda included.

I literally began rewatching this for the umpteenth time last week. I usually go back to it in times of struggle or dismay, as a way to hopefully help myself. This felt like an existential comedy that was ahead of the curve. This show deserves WAY more love & glad you gave it some.

Absolutely brilliant. As soon as I saw the 3D render of the basement, I'd thought: Whatever they're paying you is not enough.

Thank you for this. I've never met anyone who's watched this show. I used to watch it whilst high a few years ago sometime before I had experienced drug induced phychosis and although I never experienced hallucinations and only delusions and unrealistic beliefs... after watching your video it has helped me to realise that some of these delusional beliefs were a part of me finding a way to cope with the traumas I was experiencing and to get through it and become the best person I could be. Watching this video and the message you give at the end was really touching to me and exactly what I needed at a point where I feel I've for the most part overcome the extremely difficult times that I went through. Those times made me stronger, they helped to make me who I am today and evenetually led me down a better path. I'm grateful for you, brother ✌️

I appreciate the comment! I have a lot of things I plan on talking about in great detail, but its certainly hard to find a show like Wilfred. Especially one that hasn't been talked about a billion times already lol.
