"Wildwood Flower" Instruction Tutorial for 5-String Banjo
By request: This is an instructional tutorial lesson teaching my version of the traditional public domain tune "Wildwood Flower" (originally named "I'll Twine Mid the Ringlets") on five-string bluegrass style banjo. Hope you enjoy it. As usual, I take it lick by lick, then put it together slowly at first, then faster toward the end, adding rhythm guitar audio overlay and guitar chords.
Free tab and play-along tracks at different speeds are available at my website, littlerockbanjo.com.

Hi Bill, I have just bought a nice banjo and this is the first tune I have selected to learn. I am a tender age of 73 and live in the UK so a big hello brother and thank you for taking the time teach the banjo.
I am definitely diggin' on this banjo playing. You are an precious resource with the way you break it down and progressively up the pace. The song blossoms in front of me. Terry
Thank you for this video. It’s easy to understand and I like the diagrams for each section. It’s most appreciated. I grew up with this song and I’m going to finally learn it, I hope, I’m sure. This is great!!
The split screen and tab at the bottom is great!! Keep it up. I bought Flatt and Scruggs album, Foggy Mountain Banjo (Yes, I found a CD and count myself lucky to have found it.) and I would appreciate your video instruction on all songs from that album...that you haven't posted already.
worked on this all day and finally learned the arrangement..just need to practice picking it up to speed..cheers Bill.well explained teaching..
Thankyou! Very easy to follow and learn. Love the tab on the bottom of the screen.
Really diggin' it, Bill. I like the way you teach and present the material.
Yeah nice, Bill. Looking at this after figuring out my own version of a song for the first time. Very instructive thanks.
never picked up a banjo before, watched your foggy mountain breakdown lesson, proceeded to learn it. can't say i've mastered it by any stretch.. but i can say i can play it! I look forward to learning this one and many others. thanks for your wonder breakdowns of each lick. these lessons are wonderful

Thanks, but can you play the tune first in real time so we can get the tune in our head or you don't think it would help?

Just go to the 10 minute mark to hear him play it slow, but fast enough to make sense of.

Yes, Mote. I really like hearing the whole song first then the breakdown. That would be really good.
Thank you!!
