Wildlife Videography Tips & Tricks MADAGASCAR

Wildlife Videography Tips & Tricks… in MADAGASCAR!! This video is all about a few of the things I do which makes my wildlife videography WAY easier.
1 - Telephoto Lenses
2 - Setting up your frame as an image then switching your camera into video mode, holding the same frame and recording from that same profile set up originally as a photo.
3 - If your camera shoots 4K at 60fps (or lower is fine too), switch to 4K and record your shot. Then in post processing you can zoom into the frame and not loose any quality, makes for great close up and with good built in stabilization or a bit of warp, you’ll be laughing. The 60fps is good because if your editing at 30fps timeline you can slow the footage to 50% and get even smoother content.
4 - Get a local guide
5 - Visit a nature reserve or wildlife park for easier viewing opportunities
6 - Be quiet and move slowly. Both I am terrible at.
7 - Stay hyper aware in the environment and have your senses dialed to 11.
Those are some of the tips covered in the video and a few additional off the top of my head writing this description. I hope you find this info helpful and interesting. Be sure to get out there exploring your own backyard for local wildlife videography opportunities.
Shout out to our local tour operator partner Mora Travel. They've been great assisting with this journey. Here's their direct contact moratravel.com/ for more info.

You had quite the audience for the drone launch and landing :-) And the footage was gorgeous as well... and the wildlife photos, and especially the video. Great vlog! Thanks

Animals and birds in trees are often heavily backlit. Set exposure to compensate anywhere from plus-1/2 stop to plus-2 stops, depending on how bright the background is.

Great tips Greg! Love the one about getting the shot then switching immediately to video.... works really well when you put it into a vlog! My biggest tip for wildlife photography is to not be afraid to shoot at a higher ISO noisy images are better than blurry ones. Safe travels!

Watched this on my lunch break and didn't have time to comment before but now that I am out of work I wanted to let you know this was excellent! Such a beautiful place and your way of sharing your experience makes all those watching feel like they are a part of the experience. I feel like I could walk up to your driver as an old friend, the nature guide including a few comments makes him real to the viewers, also the dude has animal skills. Someday I would love to see my home state bring you and Nellie here to promote our tourism industry and of course a meet and great for your viewers from Maine. Keep doing your videos your way and being yourself it's great.

Excellent drone footage. As much as I like the drone footage I agree with locations restricting their usage, this way you can avoid saturation and over exposure of a location!

Awesome video. For someone who doesn't do much wildlife photography, you're quite good at it. Also, you may be the only person who has taken drone footage of that area, and it's really nice footage too. Thanks for sharing. Morten Hilmer definitely should visit Madagascar.

Greg thought you bagged yourself some great images there and cant imagine it was easy getting the animals in the right moment. Was cool to see about of aerial footage as well. Would be interesting to hear your thoughts on the development of environmental tourism in Madagascar as i suppose there is will be challenge in developing tourism and supporting the economic development of the country whilst at the same time maintaining a balance in protecting the natural environment

This was a great video. I have a question about the tip switching from photo to video. Do you leave your shutter speed where it was, such as at 1/1000 of a second, or do you lower it so that it's closer to double the frame rate like with normal footage? And, if you're doing longer clips than just a few seconds, do you do the same - high shutter speed or double frame rate? I'm just getting into video, and these tips definitely help a lot. :)
