    Hi Simon, I got to 12.10 and thought, 'he is spending far too much time and is far too close to that earth'. Using a trail camera is a great way of scouting out an earth but initially I would have checked the entrance from a distance with binoculars. To my mind, the whole point of using the trail camera is to avoid having to disturb the earth. Badgers are quite forgiving when it comes to checking out sett entrances but foxes can be very wary of any disturbance, particularly if it's a vixen with cubs. Sometimes it doesn't take much to make her move the Cubs to another earth. Good luck with the project, it certainly looks like a good open location which bodes well for photography.

    I have two of these trail cams and they are really good, a quick tip is get the ones with the black LED`s as I and others have found that with the ones with the white LED`s the animals seem to be able to see them at night and shy away from them. but other wise I have had some good video and stills from mine.

    Hi Andy, thats a good question. I know some trailcams suffer from a degree of lag. Maybe you would have to check on the cameras specs or with the manufacturer. I would image the more expensive models will have a faster trigger time than the likes of mine.

Also another great video you have got here I have got exactly the same camera for wildlife photography that you are showing on here the only problem is that if it's sunny and a perfect day the quality is superb but but for some reason if it is slightly misty or cold first thing in the morning especially the lens seems to get fogged up a little until the weather clears and dries up and then it goes. so I'm not sure if you are had this problem with this or if you have how can I resolve this also another great video you have got here i have got exactly the same camera for a while i photography that you are showing on here the only problem is that if it sunny in a perfect day the quality is superb but for some reason if it is slightly me stay or cold first thing in the morning especially the lens seems to get fogged up a little and till the weather clears and dries up and then it go so i'm not sure if you are had this problem with this or if you are aware how can i resolve this. Trouble is Simon these trail cameras are fairly useless for catching fast animals.... I have a Denver WCM-5003, and I was trying to see if I can get some evidence of owls, but the latency of the camera is about 5 seconds..... by the time the owl has come down taken the bait the camera is still thinking about turning itself on...... hahaha. I just get 30 to 40 shots of my bait trap with no bait.... I think these camera traps are really only useful for occasions where an animal stays in the vicinity of the camera for over 30 seconds or more..... shame but I think I’ll have to get something faster to prove owls are stealing my baits! 😂

  • @simoneardley

    @simoneardley

    4 жыл бұрын

    Yeh good point Paul, wow i didn't realise the lag was that much. Like you say they are more suited to mammmals that are slower moving and staying in one particular for a period of time. If the owls are coming in from one particular direction would it be worth trying a different orientation with the camera over a period of time so that youve covered a full 360º of the bait site? Good luck👍🏼

    SIMON EARDLEY hi Simon, I’ve bought a new trail camera now, this one has a latency of only 0.5 seconds.. so I’ll try that.... if this is any better I’ll let you know... my original camera was specified at 1.5 seconds but when I tested it it was over 4 seconds.... must be something wrong with it! 😂😂😂
