The quality of the info and videos that you bring are great. So many KZread channels about photography are so intermixed with vlogging, unreal amounts of action cuts/transitions, and endless b-roll that it’s ridiculous. Thanks for all the advice!

This kind of thinking is a great influence on society and hopefully our children hear these words. It's unfortunate that we tend to look up to those that make the most money or own the largest businesses and often forget how those got there or even the quality of their services. I've owned an in-ground swimming pool business now for 30 years and had a great mentor that stressed many of these points you brought up, he said work hard, make money but don't be greedy and enjoy life as well. We're at a point where we don't want every customer, sometimes the fit isn't right and surely we're not going to win over that shopper that only wants the best price, however, if the customer is someone like myself we're glad to pay a bit more for an enjoyable experience and sometimes in the end it's actually cheaper because honest people sell you what you need not just making a sale at any cost. As for music my wife and I go out for live shows a couple times a week and LOVE smaller intimate venues. I also feel a lot of the artists when they get bigger miss that connection and playing those smaller places as well. Right now it's 3 am here and I"m up and going through your videos trying to watch the ones I may have missed, I like that you mentioned not necessarily being the biggest channel or having the most views but rather having a place where you can connect and interact with your followers. A good friend of mine does the booking for a free township music series, he once said in an interview that he'd rather have 1 person have an amazing new experience with coming out to a live show than have 1000 just see something mediocre. He's a true lover of the arts and good music (in fact we had Mike Stern play a free show) and it's made me aware of music I would have never known existed.

robwas thanks for sharing so much. It’s great to learn a bit about you. Yes it’s the kids that I worry for. Today’s world is changing at an incredible pace. The thing I find the most scary is the incredible amount of bullshit out there. We live in a world now where fake news is becoming more prevalent, time-to-announce takes priority over quality of content, sheer quantity of information and data is used to overwhelm people into submission, loudness and extremism are used to draw attention and distract, and fancy words, statistics, and charts are used to persuade people by impressing them. You just have to look at KZread as an example. There is an incredible amount of fantastic and helpful content but you also have to be incredibly good at sifting through it to find the quality stuff and minimize the time you waste. I worry that kids today need to have a much better bullshit detector than we ever needed to have at their age and it’s not a skill we are formally teaching them.

@@AdrianChoPhotography Yes, I learned quite some time ago just because it looks professional and is on the internet it's not always true, what's worse is people re-share things on social media without fact checking and then many lies become truths in the minds of the masses. I don't talk politics on the internet but let's just say I'm not enthralled with what's going and how anything can be "fake news" even if arduous legitimate journalistic standards have been followed. About 20 years ago a friend of mine who is involved in the study of politics said you can make up a total lie and just keep repeating it, after enough driving that into people no matter how ludicrous people will say "oh yeah, that is true" and sadly he was right, many career politicians use that technique and as a society we really do suffer. On another note I looked up your personal pages to see where you perform, I see you're in Ottawa, we're down in the United States. We actually do have a very good jazz community here and I'm sure you know him, we've seen Christian McBride play live at least 4 times at various free outdoor festivals, he and his wife are NJ residents. Something I really enjoy about our jazz and blues festivals in addition to the great music is it brings together a large variety of colors, ethnicities and religions on common ground. Many times I photograph these events, a bit different than wildlife because you can get close but I always try to capture the essence of the artists on stage and interaction with one another, one member said in such simple words "he captured our joy", that was the best compliment as a photographer I could get. In 2020 I'm going to really apply a lot of this to wildlife and as you have said so many times quality before quantity.. I have plenty of super sharp close-ups of birds but not it's time to work on the rest of the elements that make up a good photograph. Great chatting, I still have to read the rest of my youtube comments which I'm guessing may be some you left on other threads. -Rob

The perfectionist in me agrees, quality over quantity every time. It's too easy to get caught up in all of the noise these days.
