    Hello you! :) Just back from Scotland where I was visiting clients and a pond I created about 2 years ago now, your garden has had a wonderful response and you should be so proud of how you have continued to maintain it - we know it doesn't take much maintenance but keeping that french lavender alive during our cold winters is certainly a feat! ;) Catch up soon - Joel

    Its wonderful to witness urban gardens being created into wildlife habitats. I've been creating wild life gardens for 20 years now. I have moved house many times yet always created my own wildlife habitat. May many more people begin to green our planet and bring back the natural world of beauty in all its characteristics. Thank you Joel.

    Thanks Helen - and that's great to hear about your 20 years of effort, I expect all those years have been very rewarding :) I agree too that although we might not be able to stop land-clearance, logging, habitat loss in the wider world, we can certainly utilise the spaces we have and make many rest stops to make up for the losses elsewhere :) Best wishes, Joel

    👍😎👍 It's weird how when the sun comes out, so do the bees. Then when the sun goes in, the bees disappear...lol Also, at my place in the country there was a mini cyclone and I lost a small eucalyptus - now after watching your videos, I'm gonna chop it and pile it up to be used as shelter and homes for who knows what..

    It's a beautiful plant Moha, it usually finds it difficult to survive the winter weather in the UK but thrives in the South of France where lavender is seen in great numbers as it likes to grow in rather barren gravel and sandy areas. This plant is very well looked after it seems and brings great rewards :) Best wishes, Joel

    They certainly do remind me of what we were up against, but it's absolutely wonderful to see the difference and the client takes good care of this, although it of course requires little maintenance. The French lavender is notoriously difficult to keep over our winters (which is why it flourishes better in the South of France, same as with most lavenders) but this client certainly knows how to keep it going! Hope you are both doing well - best wishes, Joel

    You can create a wild life garden in ten feet. Not sure where you live Marek but many people reside in urban concrete jungles and even on a balcony you can attract wildlife. I had a blackbird nest in a pot and successfully had a family of six new fledglings. I only had a small courtyard at that time.

    Lovely to see the results of your work after some time has passed. Thank you! Out of interest, do you know of any Hebe’s that can take a winter temperature of -20? My climate isn’t typically too different to the UK, but we occasionally get colder winters. The last cold winter hit -23 and took out my mature Hebe’s despite covering them in advance. Beautiful garden Joel. I have been listening to your advice and changing my garden to attract more wildlife. I have a problem with my Honeysuckle. Each year it gets attacked by greenfly. I have tried all organic ways to get rid of them but nothing seems to work. I have got to the stage where I'm thinking of taking the plant out as it's not healthy and can't flower because of the greenfly. Should I give up and remove the plant or is there anything else I can do to save it?

  • @WildYourGardenWithJoelAshton

    @WildYourGardenWithJoelAshton

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi there Kate - the one insect I know that is a voracious hunter of greenfly are ladybirds :) I also know that if you search the internet there are suppliers of native ladybirds (ie if you are in the UK they provide native only rather than the invasive Harlequin). You could try Lace Wing larvae too as they enjoy greenfly just as much. This should help keep the numbers down and I believe they are available from April through to August so there is still time this year :) I hope that's helpful, it's the most organic and effective way to keep numbers down. Best wishes, Joel

    I grew a species of Erysimum this year from seed native to my area (western north america) and planted them out this spring as transplant, do you know what year they first flower approximately in your experience? I didn't get any flowers this year. I hope at least year 2. Ours has yellow-orangey flowers, I was hoping it might be a good nectar flower.

  • @WildYourGardenWithJoelAshton

    @WildYourGardenWithJoelAshton

    10 күн бұрын

    Hi there Hayley, I think from the description you have our "native" too, Erysimum Cheiri, and it's just brilliant for pollinators. They take around 80 days to flower from seed, but if the plant looks healthy it will definitely flower next year and depending on the weather where you are they usually start to flower from mid to end of March. I hope this helps, best wishes - Joel
