Wildlife friendly, DIY, automatic, self resetting rat trap design.

Adult rats can be difficult to trap. They're highly intelligent, and wary. This 'walk the plank' style trap overcomes that wariness, and can catch multiple rats each night. It's 99% built from our scrap pile.
Conventional spring traps are indiscriminate. If they're used outside they can kill and injure wild birds. This trap is safe for wildlife, even baited.
I first started building this during the first lockdown, and finished it during the third.

indeed adult rats are very smart... t tried all means with them!!! with less and less wild predators, rats population increased significantly and common traps and food/poison are obsolete since they develop certain immunity and intelligence. ur DIY trap and approach looks interesting to explore. Thanks for sharing

The smart rodents will not fall for that because they have eyes able to see to avoid 99% of the traps! Maybe search KZread and watch “99% traps fail vs best mouse trap kills 400 rats”, stop wasting money buy 99% traps that many YT scammers use trained pet rodents to make fake promised videos and only trust honest engineer’s trapping videos, spread the word help the community safe tons of money only trust and buy the best traps then God will love you for doing good deed to help others, hope this helps 😊

Have you looked into the Uhlik Repeater? It's a very effective self-resetting trap. Shawn Woods once caught 12 rats with it in one night.

Is there a follow-up to this? I don't see a link, and I don't see a relevant playlist. I hoped for an update on its effectiveness once you had more rats around.

OOooh this video made me chuckle a few times :) In a good way. A lot of similarities with what I have been goin through. I have a fear of keeping ducks now, given the resulting rat population explosion I encountered last year (my smallholding is in a woodland environment.. I'll never not have rats.. but it got real silly last summer...) And I too, have noticed a significantly larger population of owls and other raptors since the ducks (and so rats..) arrived, which is great hehe. And also a recent apparition of a weasel near my compost bin (the rats live in there too. Under it anyway...). Glad the trap works! Will have to try it. I've tried everything under the sun.. always thinking I've outsmarted them. And then nope.. the trap stops working after killing just a few teenagers and maybe one grown up. Air rifle helps too of course.. but who wants to shoot at 2am... I was wondering last week what to do with the rat corpses, and a raptor fanatic friend of mine told me to make some raptor feeding tables/perches. Next project :D Keep it up! Good luck with it all :D

I never get tired of seeing the weasel! I suspect that's been the biggest factor in getting the numbers under control.

I've spotted two baby rats at mine in the last few days.. so I worry that the weasel may not have sticked around.. or perhaps worse.. :(.. fingers crossed it, or others, come back.

hi, i was thinking of building something similar, with a trap door, and i wanted to know if you had any advice on building it. iv got quiet a lot of metal to work with, so thats not a problem. but i am worried that this trap wont work on rats that weigh more than 230, or on multiple rats...... any thought or advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Nice to hear about predator populations responding fairly quickly. Often you hear about people suffering a pest problem for 5 years before things come into balance. Think that's probably a testament to to varied healthy environment you're managing/encouraging there

The probably isn't a successful rat trap on the planet they get on to every trap yes you will take some out but as they get on it av spent hours making traps and watching them on camera baiting it soon I set it yes I cought a few but after that they won't go in and in the end I go back to the poison which I don't want to use but the rats give me no option the traps are live ones to relocate them but they out smart me by not going in even the repeater trap they get on it the so so smart big time
