There's now more than 150 breeding pairs of Sea Eagles in Scotland which is wonderful.

That was a heck of a dog fight. I thought for sure the eagle had the seagull.

gold eagles arent unique to the UK in fact they live all over the USA and can be seen in nearly every state and they are nowhere near threatened in the USA. i see them quite regularly perched on light posts waiting for road kill lol (i can tell the difference from a vulture) i think the bald eagle is far prettier and stronger and native only to north america its amazing seeing them swoop down and snatch a 10lb+ fish out of a lake or river. there are places in alaska where you can see a flock of at least 500-1000 bald eagles along a river bank during the salmon spawn

constitutional libertarian Obviously Mears is speaking of UK populations. As you know, the loss of each species from a particular ecosytem has a ripple of effects, so the preservation of these eagles in these landscapes is a worthy goal. Also, you are surely aware that there are likely to be genetic distinctions between the UK populations and North American populations of these eagles. Genetic diversity within species are increasingly important to preserve, as habitats are more and more vulnerable to human interference, and 'weather weirding'.BYW, great screen name/avatar!

Jefferdaughter i agree i hope their population will continue to rise and their preys populations. so every one can enjoy seeing them. i quite often even see golden eagles in huge cities because no1 hunts in big cities and rabbits love people lawns its pretty cool.

It's interesting you see eagles in huge cities over there but they're disturbed into not breeding by humans here. Maybe one set of eagles has learned to adapt or one set has failed to???
