Wilderness Hiking & Camping 1000m above the Fjords, 4 days Backpacking Kjerag, Kjerag Boulder
Backpacking Camping Trip, Lysefjorden, Norway 4k, Hiking Kjerag/Kjerag Waterfall, Kjeragbolten, hiking above the fjord, crossing the mountains, recorded on iPhone and Gopro Hero 9 in 4k and 5k
This is a 4 day backpacking trip in May/June 2021, going from the Kjerag Parking and looping around the Kjerag Plateau. I find the most magnificent camp of my life, with the best views of the Kjerag Waterfall Firefall and Lysefjorden, similar to the Yosemite Firefall. I spend two days exploring the plateau and camp on top of the Kjerag Waterfall night two. On day three I head into the mountain and the snow and find an amazing campsite. Day 4 has me looping back through a gorgeous valley and returning to the main trail that I started on day one. I had sunshine the entire time and very little wind. Make sure to have a chat with the very friendly guy who runs Kjerag Tourist Info at the parking lot if you ever visit.

Picture postcard perfection. The sunsets were awe inspiring. The waterfall/firefall was truly stunning. You had nerves of steel standing on the boulder wedged between the two monoliths a thousand feet up. It made me gasp. I'm glad you survived. Thank you Jarl for sharing your adventures.

Hello Norwegian Xplorer, i'm a new subscriber & oh gosh Wow! I don't even know where to begin here, but let me just start by saying this......Sir, You are totally underrated via you tube! Your videos, all of the ones i've thus far viewed, are just absolutely incredible, are jaw dropping, breath taking, stunning, etc;. The music you choose, is just so mesmerising, wonderful, sounds so good & is so relaxing to hear, when combined with your amazing & ethereal like footage. Wherever you go within Norway or beyond, you always capture the very best of every landscape, from dusk till dawn. Norway has insanely spectacular landscapes!!! I just love the fjords & their stillness, calm & exquisite beauty. These very deep waters, equate to a very still surface area, which to the complete novice, can appear very deceiving. Every time i watch this specific video, i'm just amazed, filled with excitement, intrigue & equally, i feel very relaxed. You help your viewers to relax, which is so nice. Your calm nature is refreshing & your absolutely outstanding cinematography, both in clarity, colour & the way you always capture the light & sun @ any time of day, words can do no justice to your work. You put obvious effort & energy into what you do & this really shows. I'm going to share your videos with some of my nearest & dearest & i'm sure when they view your videos, they'll never look back again. Jarl, I don't know if anyone has ever suggested this, but have you thought about getting a drone to add another element of footage for your videos? Flying a drone down off your camp site down by the waterfall would have been spectacular! As it would in all your videos. Anyway just food for thought. Long time subscriber here 🙂
@NorwegianXplorer
2 жыл бұрын
Hey Sawyer, thanks for watching!!! No, drones are trash, I will not be caught dead with one, they make noise and disturb the peace of nature, and my take on it is that I will not film anywhere I can not get to physically, so it really goes against the purpose of my channel and would feel like cheating, honestly I can not stand drones, and they are not legal to fly many places that I go to, like here on Kjerag they are forbidden:-)

Absolutely stunning scenery Jarl! Thanks for sharing this landscape with us. It looks like you used an Ursack (big white food bag) - are bears or rodents a concern in this area?
@NorwegianXplorer
3 жыл бұрын
Hey Layne, thank you, sadly bears are nearly extinct in Norway, and not found here out west at all because of the policies of the Norwegian farmers and politicians that wants to, and have, terminated most predators in Norway, so you wont find many bears, wolves or bobcats in Norway. In Sweden they have a different policy, and there could be bears numbering hundreds or in the thousands there that sometimes roam into Norway. Norway sucks when it comes to protecting its nature and wildlife, sadly government funded sheep farming and fear has ruined so much😢 I bring the urscac out of convenience, its always my goto food bag.
@LayneComfort
3 жыл бұрын
Very interesting Jarl. As I’m sure you know, we did the same thing to our large predators in the American West for many of the same reasons. Over time sentiment and policies changed and the bears and wolves have been restored in some places (like Yellowstone) to a degree. Maybe Norway will shift as well and your predators can be restored one day.
@NorwegianXplorer

@Norwegian Xplorer Great tour. I am planning a start this year in Lysebotn myself. Where were you actually able to park your car while being in the mountain for those 4 days? Are there free parking in Lysebotn? We plan to drive up from Kristiansand over Sirdal and that way into Lysebotn. We want to take the ferry out to Forsand and walk from there back to Lysebotn on the southside.

Hei, its best to coment on the videos:-) You can park at the starting point of the Kjerag trip, Ørneredet, its 300kr but just tell the parking guy that you will do a backpacking trip and you can stay longer for the same amount, he will look after your car and is really nice!

@@NorwegianXplorer Oh that is way to far up for us. We will need to start walking in the night to get down to Lysebotn for the ferry at 7am morning. Thank you anyway. We will see if we can find a way to get a place to park closer to Lysebotn.

If I told you I would have to, you know…. but if you look around a bit on the plateau east of Kjerag you will find it.

Jari, I'd like to get on the Kjeragbolten when I hike Kjerag in July. You think jumping is easier than crawling. It may be easy for people with long legs. I am 4'7" and 88lbs with leg seam length 24". I climb peaks involving a lot of boulder scrambling. I am not scared of height or vertical cliffs. I wonder if I can get on the Kjeragbolten by crawling as the lady did in your video at 1:01:25 - 1:01:50. How can I train for this? any similar rock hopping in California (Sierra Nevada range) that I can train myself? Thanks.

It is easy, you just step across, no climbing or crawling needed, if you are not scared of heights you will find it very very easy, most people freak out because they look down, but the step itself is like stepping onto a subway train from the platform.

@@NorwegianXplorer Thanks, Jarl. How wide is the gap to jump over? I may land on the slope side of the Kjeragbolten, instead of near the top. Is the granite rock has a good grip or slippery. That is the concern.
Do you have the GPS coordinates or map or any reference point as to where that first camp site you pitch your tent up above the Fjords is by any chance? we are going there in August and would love to go to the same spot for the night:

Forgot to mention, I have been following Grizzly 399 and her 4 cubs out in Wyoming on KZread. A link popped up for a video with similar content titled "4 bear encounters that will give you anxiety" - your video of the bear standoff in Kings Canyon was #3!
