The first few times I went off road in Tasmania's wild west I couldn't believe just how much adventure there was to be had. Don't know why, I mean this is the country that turned convicts into cannibals, country that swallowed up men as quick as the quick sand on a western beach swallowed trucks.
This footage comes from an early trip with 4WD Monthly, in the days when I still had hair. Don't know if that made it any hairier, but it was an incredible adventure. A couple of local mates of mine had found a network of old tracks that'd been plunged through the big tree forests by a small bulldozer out prospecting for gold. That's how they pioneered this country, driving off into the unknown and letting the blade cut a path. It was the only way.
But that little D3 had cut through maybe fifty years before the lads fired up their quad bikes and followed where they could. In this sort of rain forest trees grow almost overnight. We had to deal with massive logs wider than a man was tall, growth across the tracks and most of all, thick, gooey rain forest mud that allowed the first vehicle through and then churned up with each following truck until it was so greasy traction stopped all together.
There's a ton of memories here but also a bunch of mates and products that handled the test of time. A young Allan Gray checking out Milo at Terrain Tamer HQ, the original TT shorty 40 V8, Terry 'Mr Smooth' Smith from Cooper tyres, Glenn Wright, a fearless rally driver, and of course, Brian, Cozzie and Pete, my Tassie bushmen mates. And there's me using Lanotec twenty years ago as the best waterproofing on earth! Enjoy - I know I did! cheers, Roothy.

@@kurtis1265 4wdaction is all about the money now not about the person that is out on the tracks even shut down the forum didn't suprise me as they lost a lot of good moderators lost it's appeal when it went to cash for trips you had all these guys buying their way onto trips when it use to be they would take along the readers.
Fantastic to see some old footage! We never got to see the old 4wd monthly/etc,.. in the states. I'm loving it!

I remember watching this on DVD and thinking gee Glen is flogging that prado!
What a great blast from the past. I remember watching this with my mate when it was new. Watching your adventures go me into traveling. We had plenty enough tracks in our backyards back in those days but you got me wanting to see the country and I’m now lucky enough to be doing just that with my family. Thanks mate.

I literally just watched this dvd a week ago, havent watched it for 8 years!

Damn I literally found this DVD on eBay a few weeks ago after searching for over a decade (I was 8 when I subbed to 4wd action) and now it's here for free. Still glad I've got my physical copy to add to my complete collection of DVDs from 2002-2013 and magazines from 2007-2013, but hopefully we get some more of this uploaded, and I'm glad most of the advertisements have been removed since they're no longer necessary

The best 4wd videos before all the constant plugging and corny crap. If you read this Roothy and have a chance I'd say my all time favourite is the Vic high country old vs new of you can upload it.such a great vid

One of the few first 4wd monthly dvd's i saw now 13 years later im gonna be getting a 4wd and on of the first things i want to do is put terrain tamer gear into it, milo doesnt look the same nowdays aswell so much changed between that dvd and museum.

Did you continue to use the flash lube diesel conditioner and how did the fuel system last on milo?

OK, I've always used Flashlube diesel conditioner. Anyone who travels Australia does. It sorts out the variety in outback fuel but also consistently delivers better economy - marginal, but noticeable over a tank. And Milo's fuel pump was reconditioned by John Jamieson at Diesel Care Tamworth NSW at 400,000K rebuild, it wasn't touched again. Milo had a tad over 1,000,000kms when she went top the museum and still going hard. It works.

JOHN ROOTH thanks for taking the time to reply mate. I’ve been using it in my 80 series and I’ve heard a couple people that reckon it wrecks the pump and injectors. I thought they were full of it anyway, but good to hear milo has proven it works.

I suppose now it’s been a few years you can tell everyone how poor the terrain tamer gear really preformed. Word is you’d still be there if it wasn’t for the locals with ARB gear?
