    I think the main reason is grenades. Even through walls, you can take 4 or so damage. The little bit of wiggle room is really helpful.

  • @Taolan8472

    @Taolan8472

    It is also possible to take a small bit of damage from flashbangs or the impact of a smoke grenade, so the 100 HP gives you enough damage to resist these while making it the weakest sosiguns will still kill you in a direct hit.

    Shotgun "irons" were typically a bead or rail on the barrel and a groove in the top of the receiver because it was super cost-effecitve to manufacture, and assuming you had a proper posture the alignment of the receiver and barrel would make a hit very likely. In VR, you have no physical sense of the stock, so proper stance and physical alignment of the weapon is difficult.

    10:30 we are still experimenting with new stuff for guns, we're just at a point where certain technologies need to develop further for major advances to happen like with smokeless powder. right now the biggest advances i see are polymer case ammo and eventually caseless which will change the way we design guns radically, they're both still in their infancy (caseless especially) but they will come eventually, assuming something unexpected doesn't make them obsolete before then

    I think the biggest issue with polymer casing is that not getting that waste heat out of the receiver is a really tough catch to engineer around; same with caseless, but with the further hitch of making ammo equally as cheap, reliable, and safe as brass. With advances in body-armor, we could see the return of manufacturers playing around flechettes (possibly an APFSDS); there is also the possibility of duplex ammo providing that much lauded metric, "hit-probability".

  • @comradesoupbeans4437

    @comradesoupbeans4437

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@thehiltonater i don't see much future for duplex ammo, it's been proved time and time again that training is better than a higher chance at a random hit. otherwise i 100% agree, though sabot rounds in anything smaller than .50 cal is very difficult to get reliable

  • @thehiltonater

    @thehiltonater

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@comradesoupbeans4437 Absolutely a fair point on duplex ammo. I think finding a way to make that first round as accurate as simplex would really open the doors to duplex as a simpler solution to what something like the AN-94 was trying to achieve. On flechette and the possibility of sabots, I think it's a good idea that is looking for the right design/material to make it really work. Something like the cutter on those old SPIW rifles was obviously not a great choice and kinda poisoned the well on sabots in service rifles, but I think improvements in manufacturing capability could really bridge the gap between something robust and something overly complicated.

    The gun of the future is definitely going to be a caseless AR-18/AR-15 copy with M-LOK real estate and a carbon-resistant, heat-reflective lining for the chamber. It will be accompanied by a polymer striker-fired pistol chambered in "old" style cased ammunition, featuring a 1911 grip angle, a rail, and RMR-cut slide standard. Both will be highly modular and available in different calibers/configurations. They will also be compatible with the next generation's version of Land Warrior. Boom. I just saved you 20 years of getting excited over gun developments. Just keep saving for that dumb purchase like we all knew you were going to anyway.

    There are different 'characters' for different time periods, so you have wild west, wwii, pre and post desert storm. Then you have 'standard' health which is 5000hp, and 'one-hit' which is 100 hp (some wiggle room depending on what actually hits you.) And lastly there is 'spawnlock' which basically means infinite magazines/bullets, and 'limited' which means you only have the ammo you can fit in your belt. Hope that makes sense!
