Sac the knight was literally losing a full piece. If black play right, black's king will be fairly safe, and the more white tries playing tricks, the more advantage for black

I’ve only ever successfully done this once. it’s honestly better to threaten a trap to put pressure on your opponent, rather than actually full sending a trap. but traps rarely work past 500 elo

This trap is inadvisable, as it only succeeds if multiple missteps are made by Black: 4..h6? and 6..Ke8?? 4..Be7 is a substantial improvement, and after 6..d5 or 6..Kg6 Black should win, even if it's OPTICALLY scary.

pawn h6 is fine by stockfish but after Bc4 you try and run your king to h7 and white has nothing

  • @zanti4132

You can play 4...d5 if you want to get a good position without any complications. However, if I know my opponent is going to sac his knight after 4...h6, I say definitely play ....h6! After 4...h6 5. Nxf7 Kxf7 6. Bc4+, the cleanest refutation is 6...d5 - you're up material, so you can give back a pawn to help your development, similar to how best to respond to the Danish Gambit. Then after 7. Bxd5+ Kg6! 8. O-O Kh7, the king is safe on h7 and White has no attack to speak of. Still up a piece, Black is obviously much better.

I think he means they aren’t kicking his knight away with h6 which is a losing move. Cause then all is the same except when queen checks from h5 it gets blocked by pawn g6 which is then supported by the pawn staying on h7 and the queen is kicked away

It's not that bad, if you meant the first check, the pawn defends d5. So the attack ends but you still expose their king. The evaluation bar is very misleading when you aren't playing bots because it's hard for normal people to play all the perfect moves it takes for them to maintain the better position with their king closer to your side of the board
