When I was a kid in the 80's, my cousin and I caught these exact guppies in a local river in South Africa. They were very hardy and bred like crazy. We even ended up selling the babies to pet shops. Some had really beautiful tails with lots of metallic greens and blues.
I have never seen wild guppies, especially in their native habitat! thank you for showing us this.
It looks like the guppies have gone through mini evolution,, their colors have adapted to match their surroundings for camouflage, so now they look brown and gray. Helps them avoid predators 🙂
We use to catch wild edler guppies when I was around 8 years old, now am over 35 and still have nice dream of that pond. Love this hobby
here in the Philipines you can find wild guppies that looks like betta fishes😇

Thanks for sharing! Love wild guppies, definitely on the fish room wish list!
YES guppy collecting, this is one of my favorite things that you do - it's like a little adventure everytime, and I am so jealous you live in a place you can do this! (I live in the desert.)

Yeah those are mosquito fish which are extremely close to guppies. The only real difference is that they’re about .25 inches longer but they can breed with guppies and look pretty much the same. But yeah those cow like ones, black and white spotted are nice
Thanks for what you do..... since I am not able to do it myself. This is the next best thing!
As kids, we used to catch these wild guppies and also medakas in the sugar cane and taro patch irrigation ditches in Hawaii. I used gallon sized glass Best Foods Mayonnaise jars as fish bowls. Brings back many memories.

Great video! Really enjoy seeing these beautiful little fish in their natural habitats. Would love to keep wild guppies myself however they're difficult to get hold of here. I can at least get n-class Endlers!

I love guppy fishes
I m from India and i Love guppies
I went looking for wild guppies in Florida, I was pretty sure I found some, I caught one, I put it in my community tank, smallest fish in there, it terrorized every living thing in the tank, I finally had enough and decided to feed it to my saltwater tank, I scooped it out and plunked it straight into my reef tank. . . . . it lived with no acclimation, still highly aggressive but kept in check by the reef inhabitants, so a word of warning, when you're trying to find guppies, be careful what you might end up with lol

Love wild guppies have some in my 45 gallon guppy tank
Wild guppies here in the philippines are quite abundant. Though most of them do not have any distinguishable patterns or colors. Alnost all of them are dark gray in color. Must be because of the environment they live in. They can be found even on polluted waters. Some people often harvest them and sell them to pet shops as feeder fishes. They get sold without being quarantined so they might carry diseases thay may infect your carnivorous fish if you would feed them without quarantine periods. Anyway, great video man.

I very much enjoyed this video, and am looking forward to part 2! Always love documentation of collecting fish in their natural habitat. For the macro shots, could I suggest that you bring along some black construction paper or plastic, or even a piece of cardboard, and place it behind the tank when you try to take videos? It will help the camera to focus on the fish instead of the greenery that's behind it, and the dark color will make it easier to see their colors.
Loved it

In my country you can find those fish easily in the sewers, too bad they're not so colourful (maybe because of bad water quality). I already keep the males for months (maybe a year) and the fish grow long tail and their colour become so colourful like guppies that we find in the pet store but with different patterns.
Cool !!!😋👍👍
