Trametes betulina. They're a cousin of Turkey Tails, trametes versicolor. It's still a saprophytic polyphore, but the underside is mazed and sort of looks like gills. They're not toxic, but they don't have the beta glucans that people are after in t. versicolor so it's not worth the effort to harvest, dehydrate, and grind them up. The only benefit you'd get from them is vitamin D2, in which case you're better off just chopping up some white button mushrooms and letting them sit in the sunshine for 15 minutes and you'll get 50x the D2 that you would from t. betulina.

@@731Zach Having a good field guide is great. Mushrooms of the Southeast by Elliott & Stephenson is what I use, I'm just a ways uphill from you. Lots of good hi-res photos and written so it doesn't matter if you wear a lab coat or carhartt. I hope you went back and harvested all those true turkey tails! They have lots of beta glucans and polysaccharide-K, and that PSK strips away the cloaking device that cancer cells use to trick your immune system into not attacking them. So it'll help beat any diagnosed tumors and won't let new ones get started. I'm off to the woods to go look for some more right now since we got a good rain yesterday.

Could those be false chantrelles? They grow on wood instead of dirt like true chantrelles
