Wild camping at Loch Trool, Galloway Forest Park.

Me and several buddies decided to go wild camping at Loch Trool/Glen Trool in the Galloway Forest Park. The weather was mostly fine during the day, but absolutely grim at night. Involved is trekking, climbing, wild swimming and top quality cooking. All round a fun Scottish wild camping trip.

A bit crowded but fun all the same. It's just that sound of the rain trickling off the tent and the fog adding the atmosphere that really did it for me on this trip. Any stress, anger, anxiety, etc,. was gone thanks to these two.

Love your vids but just have to point out on this one that that is a bad site for a fire. Peaty rooted soil will continue to burn underground and can often spark back up days after you have left. A lot of forest fires start this way. Needs gallons to put it out fully. If you can take a collapsable firepit or similar it's way preferable or site your fire on rocks or sand. Mind you it looks like you're not the first to have used that site. Not a dig, just something to think about. Keep up the great work and the vids coming.

@@RS-xq6je Is Clatteringshaws any good for wild camping in winter? Is it a spot where you need to bring your own wood? Yeah it pisses me off the amount of crap people leave around, especially when they put it all in the binbag and just leave it there. I was thinking about doing a video, walking around and picking dirt up to highlight the issue again. I do my best picking up other people's crap, but multiple times I've cut myself with glass and I keep forgetting to bring padded gloves. When it comes to areas, Galloway Forest Park is my favourite. My favourite spot is elsewhere, but Galloway is exceptionally convenient with busy and quiet spots. @@RS-xq6je I'm one of them campers that need a fire. For light and warmth. Dunno how some people go without it. I remember in the middle of winter we had a roaring fire and I had to get out my bag because the heat radiating off my body was exceptional. I'm in the market for a new medium sized axe. The maul is too big and heavy, it may be fun to split wood with it, but I am clumsy and an accident is waiting to happen. Russ in the comments on this video sent me a cracking Ray Mears video that's got a far more convenient way of splitting wood. Have you tried the firelogs? B&M do them for a pound and many petrol stations have them for £2. The burn for 2 hours if you have a small fire. Heavy, but worth it for heat or to get a fire started. Yeah I know the tents you are on about. Colin Russel is forever using it. Looks quite spacious as well and ideal for you and the wee ones. You going to invest in one then?

I’ve never camped. What happens when you want to go to the toilet? Obviously there are no toilets 🚽 to sit on ? Or are there 🤔 nobody ever says. Or is this why nobody ever camps more than one night ?

😂 You dig a hole, Atma. You dig a hole and you squat. It gets "easier" with practice. If you carry biodegradable wipes they can go in the hole too, otherwise you are carrying out! Then you jump in the loch for a wash 😁 How come you've never camped?

@@MontyOutdoors but where is the flush and toilet 🚽? No one ever mentions this. It’s near impossible to carry and install a toilet in the wild. I’ve a few concerns about camping and this is one of them. This is why I’ve never done it yet.

Robert, as I said to another person, I thought they only existed around central belt and northwards. I've been told Loch Doon can be bad - zero issues myself, - Stincher Bridge and now Loch Trool. I have never seen it that infested in my life.

@@robertgibson7716 Yeah, someone said the same happened to them at Ballochling Loch so they bailed. I have a DD tarp a large anti mosquito net which I hope does the trick one day, but to be honest, I aim for windy days if I am going camping. Warm calm days and it's to the beach.

More to come, Dan. Still testing a few things out on what I want to do with my videos, but I will focus on natural sounds, scenery, setup, and minimal dialogue - dialogue only occurs when describing setup, location, etc,. Thanks or the cracking comment as per though, mate.
