That's what broke, the motionplus. It stopped picking up motion, that's why the sensor was working, but the sword was staying still.

Here are some pro tips: When your remote starts acting up, pause the game and recalibrate. Also pressing down on the + pad will recenter your sword without having to pause the game. Also you are able to hit people you aren’t directly targeting and those hits will always ignore their blocks. So if there’s a particularly smart ai, you can kill them before you even have to fight them. Also always hold block when your transferring between opponents because you can let go of your block and swing in the same motion if they lower their guard.

Poofesure, if you’re reading this, the reason why your sword is in different positions and is all over the place is because you’re not repositioning the sword every so often. To reposition it, you just press down on the D pad, and then your swords position will reset to its original. It even says in the game often after you beat a level.

I remember Poof breaking the sensor bar one time a couple of years ago during a meltdown. It's very likely the sensor bar is no good and much cheaper to replace than one Wii Remote, much less 9 of them.
