fun fact this contra game for wiiware is actually developed by m2 who also developed castlevania the adventure rebirth and gradius rebirth also for wiiware and there currently working on the upcoming new aleste game and if you look closely at the 4:32 mark m2 had snuck in a easter egg of the girl skateboarder from teenage mutant ninja turtles the arcade game a.k.a mutant turtles 2 the arcade game as it was called in the nes port and on a side note r.i.p konami code creator kazuhisa hashimoto god rest his soul

It looks like a direct sequel to Contra 3 on SNES.

A shame this hasn't been ported yet. Come on Konami!

Love these old gaming style. Fast action with almost no cutscenes.

Oh Lord I've played Contra since I was a kid in the 80's. I'm sure the name Plissken is a nod to Escape From New York (1981) In that movie Kurt Russel plays a character named Snake Plissken.

That final boss fight tho, my sides :D And then a space helicopter :D I can't tell whether this or Neo Contra is the weirdest game in the series.

Plissken is a fun unlockable character. Not only do you have to be better with your aim, but he references Contra III a lot!

and during the introduction sequence where bill rizer said what is this place is actually a reference to the short intro of the arcade version of super c known as super contra where bill rizer said the exact same dialogue which is what is this place but sadly you couldn't hear that voice sample in the contra anniversary collection due to either some kind of copyright issue or could be a sound emulation issue on m2's part who converted the arcade version of super c themselves on the contra anniversary collection which is just my own speculation of why m2 have to remove the voice sample what is this place in the contra anniversary collection and also the name of that alien salamander solider thing plissken is possibily a reference to the charecter snake plissken played by kurt russel from the 1981 john carpenter film escape from new york which i could be wrong and the name snake is also the inspiration of the name of another konami charecter which is solid snake from the metal gear series and the part at the 28:27 mark where plinkins said let's attack agressivly is another reference to the intro of contra 3 the alien wars where lance bean also said in the text let's attack agresivly so the more you know and knowing is half the battle lol

I never thought i'd ever see a Hard mode run of this game, especially a no-death run. Excellent job! Also: that probably would've been death at 48:19 if the boss didn't die just then.

I honestly don't remember this game.... It looks badass....

you know i just relised that m2 have put another easter egg at the 4:31 mark which the person on the billboard in the background in level 2 is actually dr venom from the japanese and eroupean only msx gradius game called nemesis II including gradius rebirth it mustve took me 11 years sense this game used to be on the wiiware to actually notice that easter egg and i also relised that the name of the charecter chief salamander is actually a reference to the japanese version name of life force for the arcade and nes known as salamander which also took me 11 years to catch that reference it seems like m2 put alot of subtle past konami games easter eggs and references in all three rebirth games that i didn't catch them at first until agrubly over a decade later if im not mistaken

Never played this one. Looks cool, but definitely a different feel than old school Contra.

I really like the idea of the lezard, it could bring a new kind of game play to the franchise ..

This game is incredible. Hope it eventually gets a rerelease.

Ok, guys, chill, 😂 I seen people from now in days, who aren't exactly educative raised. Anyway, this game was developed solely for the Nintendo Wii back in 2009, as a digital exclusive game, this means, there is no physical release what so ever. Speaking of modern platform ports, sorry, it has been stuck for a digital Wii game store only, known as Wiiware, and unfortunately, Wiiware, Virtual Console, and other Wii compatible application ports, known as Wii Shop Channel, ceased since 2018, though the channel is still working, but you wouldn't find anything there anymore. The only way to get this game legally, is to make "Konami", make another agreement contract with "m2", since this game was developed by "m2", and not "Konami", despite they own the Contra games intellectual property, or do it the illegal way, modify a Nintendo Wii system, and start throwing all of the Wii's legacy collection in a SD card, or USB drive, connect it up, and play.

the flying xenomorph looking things don't have that happen as I can tell and it does make sense you are fighting mostly machines

Only thing with Rebirth is they needed to make this harder. Contra is fun because it’s chaos and difficult. This one falls short of being really tough to beat.

More of a re-do, Plissken and Brownie are not in the starting cutscene anymore, so it's a fresh save, probably because didn't have the best quality, but the old one is still on there, it's just not numbered anymore.

Oh..a great game. Beautifull sprites,not shitty 3D. I will take it. If you know some great 'neo retro' games...Shmup,run n gun,cute them up,beat them up,plateform...on ps3,ps4,pc... Please make a list,because I almost never play on modern console,I just bought 2 games in two years..Kof 14,Sine mora..and soon Samurai..arcana blades..game paradize... Thanks

I somewhat bashed this game a few years ago, but after that shit sandwich that was Rogue Corps, I'll gladly take this game. At least it was made by people who clearly love the franchise, not just a bunch of politically correct executive pricks looking for a paycheck. Konami sucks ass now.
