'lea' is the Latin word for 'lioness' and seriously, there could have been no better leader for this fabulous team, one of the most thrilling English sides I've ever experienced. Throughout this whole tournament she has been an incredibly inspiring person: honest, eloquent and totally focussed. The whole nation can be proud of her and the other Lionesses. Legends, all of them.

It is LEAENA - 'Lea' is 'Leigh', 'Ley' in place names and the male name: Lee - etc from Old English and means: Woodland Clearing / meadow. Unless her name is 'Leana' - the modern version - and Lea is a shortform of that, though 'Leana' means - 'sun rays', Aileen, Helen are also variations of the same word apparently. 'Leah' is a Hebrew name that means: 'delicate'.

@@chriswarr3676 Yes, the English name does not mean Lion in Latin. As I wrote above the meanings of the name. Unless it is a very specific chosen name in which case it is LEAENA is a female Lion in Latin, as I wrote above. LEO is the Latin for a male Lion. The common name 'Leah' is Hebrew for 'Delictate' OR: Lea is commonly also 'Leanna' and also nothing to do with Lions nor is it Latin. It means 'SunRays' and is of Gaelic or Greek origin

@@junctionfilms6348 You are right in a way, but if I remember correctly from my linguistic days at university, 'leaina' or 'Λέαινα' is derived from Greek into Latin and the shorter 'lea' is just a Latin synonym for the same word. Probably a grammaticalised derivative to fit the male 'leo'. Anyway, thanks a lot for taking us on that in-depth onomastic excursion. :-) Also, it doesn't change the fact a bit that our No. 8 is a brave lioness by nature. ❣🦁

I started to watch the Womens teams in 2014 after being a season ticket holder in the Men's game and have seen the struggles, hate and and criticism through the years and now the final triumph at the end. Perfect!

Really enjoyed this show. I watched every episode and I also came to the tournament and saw 5 games including the final. I live in Toronto. I watch most games on KZread or the FA player. I can’t get enough. As a long time footballer, it was my first love but I wasn’t allowed to play because girls were forbidden. I still did my bit and it made my life better. Congrats to the players and coaching staff. I’ll never forget being at Wembly and witnessing that.

It'd be really nice if someone could ask the coach a FOOTBALL question, instead of "how were the celebrations?" I'd like to know how the team coped with Germany's possession based dominance for a lot of the second half, especially after Toone's goal; the importance of Jill Scott coming on to bolster the midfield and add experience, etc. etc.. This is a proper football team - let's have at least a couple of football questions, please.

I feel the way the team have performed and conducted themselves have inspired a whole generation of children and include young boys in that as well, as I know plenty of people who's girls and boys have been glued to the games. They are proper role models and class acts, which is something that I feel at times lacks in the men's game. To be a heroes across the genders, just shows how amazing they have performed and conducted themselves. And to anyone who feels that their young boy is wrong to look up to a female icon, let's just say it says more about you than it does the child.
