I am fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to help stack the steel and rig the production for interlockin in back in 2013 and 14. I have paid for my ticket in 2015 and 17..... unfortunately i have passed it up since due to what it has become. It became something it shouldn't have but with good times comes unwanted attention. I was hallucinating heavily during this set and can still smell the cloudy haze and feel the heat.

Yeah c'mon man did u make the show? get to tour the lot for a few hours? What was the opener? LOL if you gotta Disco off the bat you were in for a helluva good night. Piece of advice.. I've had the best shows in "obscure, smaller" cities.. relatively speaking. Chattanooga is always awesome. Jackson, MS prolly my show to date (6/29/01). Montgomery, AL had a sweet four-cornered room in may '01, which isnt really a big city all, like not even a city compared to atlanta or birmingham. Pretty guaranteed certain songs depending on specific dates and locations. like on 4/20 u'll prolly getta "stoned me", perhaps a rainy day woman, prolly an arlene; but arlene shows up on 10/13 a lot as well. Don't get too messed up, you'll wanna remember as much as possible of the show. Nothing that might cause a blackout, that'd be a shame if u were present for something incredibly and didn't find out until later.

Todd is a great drummer, he ALWAYS had the beat laid stable. That's mad important for all the improv the band does. And he's had his moments of spotlight. For instance.. before they started the "microdrums" thing, how many "Drums" (the 20 minute sorts, with Drools at the end) did he log? And I for one LOVED hearing my first Clinic Cynic, Todd doesn't sing lead for many tunes. Someone told me Clinic Cynic is when you go look for the restrooms, but screw that, Todd is wonderful and his laid back but sturdy style was a perfect complement to Sonny's arsenal of bells bongos rainsticks woodblocks and whatever else he felt like banging on at the moment. Jimmy is a perfectly incredibly guitarist, but he isn't Houser. He seems to overdo his stuff imho. Mikey could be incredible while being subtle. Hell he couldn't not be incredible. Think his work in Machine. Compare it to Jimmy's. Its just not there. To say nothing of Mikey's trademark songs, like Gimme, Sandbox, Burned Faceless, Airplane, Pickin', etc. Not that Jimmy is doing a bad job but he is more amazing staying in his own element instead of trying to reproduce the H. And that's fine, the band's evolved and will continue to do so. I had no problem with George's playing. He played like he knew but the band didn't see it as a good fit, though I could listen to Doreatha all day long. But between his voice, guitar style (and banjo), I can see why they hired Jimmy, but please remember George did the boys a great service being there during that painful time when everyone who got to see Mikey were worried the band would hiatus or even break up. But OMG seeing Mikey at his last NOLA and Oak Mountain runs... he had no pain when the endorphins were flowing during those solos. Even the finest opiates can't stave off pain as good as a few sweet moments when you connect to the music. I learned this after a terrible car accident when fentanyl patches, oxycontin, and dilaudid proved inferior to grabbin' *MY* Telecaster and immersing myself into something like I'm Not Alone, or even better Driving > Surprise > Driving. So many good moments to lose yourself in an improv solo in there. FYI if anyone is struggling with opiate dependency... consider guitar lessons, and that will become a great tool to help you use fewer pills. TL;DR: Todd = Band's Classic Backbone, Mikey = The Lingering Lead. Duane = Helluva Drummer no doubt but he's not the same, he seems to be more like, well, Sonny but on a trapset. However that first Four-Cornered Room he did was incredible. Jimmy, same thing. Wonderfully talented lead guitar, but should not be seen as a replacement, he's just a new part of the wsp machine, and would have to compromise his talent, and disappoint if not enrage quite a few of us from the Houser era. Everyone should utilize his preferred style and the fans will get used to it. Retire a few songs if they can't be done properly without their originals. I think Airplane shoulda been retired, when JB & Friends brought it out at Orlando House of Blues.. every one in the crowd was in tears. I think (the "reverend" Jerry Joseph sang).

Who decides if songs are done properly? You? Again, music is subjective, so comparing what you are listening to in the moment with a MEMORY of a certain performance is a waste of time. If you can be in the present work an open mind, then who gives a fuck who is playing the music?

@@freedomvan2970 you are incorrect Sonny and Jojo are not original members. Widespread Panic is: Mike Houser, John Bell, Dave Schools and Todd Nance. That's how it was incorporated. Sonny only played in Athens for a while and didn't tour until late 1990 I think. Herman's first shows was 3/13-14 1992 at the GA Theater and I was there still have the DATs.. If you've never heard it do it now. The Chilly h20 from the 14th to close the 2nd set is probably one of the best I'd ever seen. might be too much for you cause it's heavy metal Houser. T Lavitz was the first keyboard player but left becasue of the tour schedule. Sonny and Herman are employees and have a salary. The rest are paid by how many shares they own in Widespread Panic Inc. and by profit margin. It is a business and has been since 1992. Barbette Houser and Todd Nance are still paid based on the shares they own. Read Nobody Care Who You Are, The panic years: Parts one and two by Larry Acquaviva. He was their original roadie and lived in the back yard of the band house. but now there are only 2 original members playing now JB and Schools.

I hope Todd never comes back and I have followed these guys since 1992. He has lost a ton of energy, rolls the same drum patterns over and over, and overall his percussion is "flat". Duane brings back the energy that Nance lost when he decided to quit caring and gain an extra 50-75 lbs.
