WATCH TIL THE END: The perfectly good boat that I tore apart and put back together actually runs! I finally get the 1987 Formula F-242 SR1 out on the water for its FIRST rip of the year. The Sea Ray (which is now SOLD!) also made an appearance and ran great. Nothing like a weekend boat camping trip with the boys. Oh and the Formula is now for sale. Link below.

Love the channel. You sound like me. After every project I feel like an expert because I had to do it a few times lol
Put the shifters in full forward before you remove and install Alpha drives. It makes aligning that shift tube easier.

That's awesome! I had someone from Arrow Marina reach out to me about this boat when I had it listed for sale. Really cool to hear the history behind it. I'm just happy I was able to keep it all original and freshen up the engines. What a great boat. Ran so well!

@@BoatRestorationbyBen if you do, go for EFI. I have a single 502 with the Mercury 3 outdrive.

Much easier to dock if your wife is driving. Lol
Had the same boat but red, black, & gray could only get 60mph , the single 502 gets up about 66mph
This vid makes me sick! (Kidding!) I used to own an immaculate '88 272 SR-1 with 454's. Bought with only 69 hours on it in 1993, sold it with just over 1200 hours in 2011. Indoor rack stored since it was bought new, and showed as new when sold. You can't beat those old Formulas for quality construction. I used to beat it like a rented jet ski (Freighter wake jumping is a BLAST!) and never heard so much as a rattle or squeak from anywhere! I miss it BAD!!

I am looking to get a formula 241 or 242. Would your recommend the boat or maybe a different model?

I would absolutely recommend the boat. Only thing I wish is it was longer. Try to find a 272 or 271 sr1 if you can. The extra few feet go a long way when it comes to handling on the water.
