I just found your review as I was working on my 2016 LS16 ARE tonight and wanted to see some reviews. I have too many acoustics now, but my husband bought me this beauty for Christmas in 2015 or 2016. This guitar sounds wonderful and always has. I had the action lowered on it and everytime I play it I wonder why I ever bought another guitar! But, you know, GAS sets in and I have recently started moving some out. This one will stay with me always and not just for sentimental reasons. It sounds better all the time! Thanks for your review of this newer LS16. Beautiful guitar!

I had a Yamaha as a kid.. As an adult I was chasing the Taylors and Martins. I found a wonderful little Yamaha that actually changed my perspective. I have since sold the Taylor (which I did love) and have 3 different Yamahas now. I really love the tone of them. John's right.. they are wonderful guitars and are often discounted.

35 years ago I bought my LL-15 custom ordered with rosewood back and sides. Several much more expensive Martins, Collings, and Santa Cruz guitars have come and gone since then but I still have my good old Yammy. With 35 years on the spruce top it sounds better than ever. The expensive guitars spend much more time in their cases while my Yammy is on a stand ready for me to play.

Hi J.P. Cormier, I am from Toronto, Ontario. I really liked your videos, and especially this, because like you I am a huge fan of Yamahas especially the L series, and the new FG red label. This video, you went to extreme details with review every part of the instrument with the close up shot. When you get the chance, you should review the Yamaha TransAcoustic, it is just simply stunning.

Agree, L series Yamaha's are killer guitars! I couldn't pass up the LL16 Jumbo as a flat picker for about $1000 but the small body is equally as nice. Of course now I want to try the Red Label.

According to the book "The History of Yamaha guitars": James Taylor played a FG2000 and L55 custom. John Denver had two L53's. Paul Simon played a custom CJ 52. Bruce Springsteen played a CJ52. David Lindley played a L51. Neil Young played Yamaha L-55 Jimmy Page played Yamaha acoustics on Zep world tour 1975 and Page/Plant Unledded tour in 1990's.

I'm in Connecticut, in the US. The nearby Guitar Center very briefly carried MIC L-series guitars. In the $600 range, they were amazing. Not sure if they sold out. But it could have been more than one shipment, then I never saw them again. They were seemingly replaced by the tricked out one with the onboard effects. Kind of a bummer, IMO.

I'm glad you posted this so I can hear how good my own guitar sounds. I bought one of these on impulse last year, and now I'm trying to sell it. Not because I don't like it but because it's wasted on me. This is a great guitar. I started playing at 62, and for a few reasons will only ever be a strummer. You said this one isn't good for keeping up with bluegrass players on their dreadnoughts, but I'm not so sure about that. It is *loud*, too loud for a heavy-handed strummer like me. It needs to go to a flat- or finger-picker (or light handed strummer). I'm hoping someone in the Dallas area will buy it soon (I'll replace it with an FSX3; it's a bit "tamer").

John, I recently found your channel and greatly appreciate it. This is the exact guitar I would like. I am also considering a Blue Ridge BR243 all solid spruce with solid rosewood. The Blue Ridge sounds great and plays super easy with very low string tension. I have not been able to find any Yamaha L series anywhere, not even here in Nashville during my visit. Should I buy a Yamaha I never played or go with a Blue Ridge I have played and love?

Quality Control at Yamaha acoustics is like no other. Seriously. One of the most consistent builders on the planet. Says alot considering the medium. One of the few guitars that can stand up to our Canadian climate too. Very stable platform. Hard to go wrong at any of their price points. You know what you're getting when you buy a Yamaha guitar. They just work! Period. Can't say the same for alot of the high end guitar companies. I know I'd never buy another Martin or Taylor without actually trying the guitar in person first again. Lesson learned the hard way. A costly one. Been burned by Martin twice now. Once with a Shanendoah and once with a brand new mid 90's, HD28.

I've got rhe guitar since yesterday. I like it, but it's so odd... First: it looks so good mine is red sunburst... It's a real beauty. It's also solid as a tank. The neck feels a bit chunky, but not not in a bad way. The neck is 44 mm wide at nut, but a bit rolled on the edges, so it feels a bit narrow. The strings action is very low. Seems lower then any other acoustic I played, but I notice no fret buzz which is great. It almost feel like electric guitar. The body is small, but it's deep, which to me is a bit weird too. The acoustic sound is quite good with good sustain. Dont expect it anyway on pair with your dreadnought in therm of the depth. Absolutely not as deep. My Yamaha A3R sounded thin compared to LS16, but my Martin D-16 is much bigger and deeper. In the same time, the good thing also is, that it doesnt overpower my voice which is right for me. Everything is made extremely solid. Also A3R is build like a tank. The neck is much stiffer than any other guitar I have. All in all, I need to get used, as it's an unusuall guitar, but quite catchy. I'll se if it's a keeper for me. Time will show.

Greetings Sir John! I have stumbled on your channel recently falling down the YT rabbit hole somehow. Amongst a lot of tidbits of wisdom....Thank you for reminding us to try and not to brainwashed or be too attached to brand loyalty as there are a heluva lot great guitars out there! (referencing your why I hate Martins video) I have probably owned more Yamahas than any other brand over the years, and after watching your video on the LS 16 I got pretty excited to maybe want to own one. I do have an LL16 ( Maybe about 10 years old) but for some reason, I have never been quite happy with the overall sound and not sure if it is an intonation issue or..? I really like the idea of a smaller size guitar like the LS 16 and I think that for the $$ Yamaha gives you a lot of bang for the buck. Would the LS 16 be your favorite smaller sized Yamaha for under....say $2000 ? Thanks for your response. Cheers, Ed

Ac5r I call it the Taylor Killer. It's literally on par or better than Taylors and Martins in it's price range. You'd have to pay $2500 (more or less) minimum for the same specs on Martin and Taylor. Not to mention it has electronics and a hard shell case MIJ instruments are true masterpieces. Yairi or Yamaha all day.

The late, great Bert Jansch played Yamaha guitars. He always had great things to say about the company/people too.

Absolutely and I found this quote on equipboard.com from early 2000s "Jansch has played Yamahas for years. He started with an FG1500, and when he visited Red Rhodes’ store in West Hollywood, the guitar-electronics guru tricked it out, cutting a hole in the body to insert volume controls. The 1500 has long since been patched up and remains one of the guitarist’s favorites, but these days he almost exclusively uses an LL11E on the road, with an LL400 as backup." ps Neil Young who greatly admired Jansch's playing ordered a Yamaha L-55 at the same time as John Denver ordered his Yamaha L-53 around 1975

@@martifingers Yes I believe Bert first became acquainted with Yamaha through his short lived guitar store in the early 70's.

@@chezruss One thing equipboard is missing is the Yamaha L-25AT he played from the late 70's/early 80's until 96 when he acquired the LL-11E. It was the very top of the line of the Taiwan made L series at the time.

Got my first Yamaha LL16 back in 2010. The aroma from the solid rosewood filled the store when unboxed. What a gem. Yes, being a dumbass back then I traded it in as I prefer 12 fret guitars. Later came the LS16, LL16 12 string, NCX900fm, NTX900fm. Still have most of them. A Yamaha fan I am. But they won't make 12 fret guitars, or mandolins?????

I bought an LL16 dread.......I have had it for a long time. Decent guitar, but the new aged tops sound better. I have to have a new Red Label FGX5......

@@TheCrawmart Good choice. If it came in a 12 fret I'd be all over one. Come on Yamaha - about time you made a finger style 12 fretter.

The Jb Player has unique history changed hands 3 times in country … bought it back for the Marine who had to hock it …. willed it back to me before his service took his life.
