Hail, and well met this dark November! I hope you are all keeping well.
This cover of Chris Isaak’s Wicked Game was created in collaboration with the wonderful Uilleann piper and whistle player Aaron Dolan, who is creating Irish music in Germany. It was a pleasure to work with him and have his pipes and whistles grace this channel. You can find lots of his work over on Tiktok or here on KZread, so do check him out!

The Art:
'Hi leret der markis Arablen der kuninginnen den kristenden
loben'(folio 25r) from the Willehalm Codex' by Wolfram von Eschenbach, 1334. University Library Kassel, Germany.
The little decorative detail is from fol. 60r from Bodleian Library MS. Bodl. 264.
The Lyrics:
The world was on fire
And no one could save me but thee
‘Tis strange how desire hath a mockery made of me
I never dreamed I would meet someone such as thee
I never dreamed I would lose someone such as thee
No I don’t want to fall in love
No I don’t want to fall in love
With thee
What a wicked game to play, to make me feel this way
What a wicked thought to free, to let me dream of thee
What a wicked thing to say, thou hast not felt this way
What a wicked thought to free, to make me dream of thee
No I don’t want to fall in love
No I don’t want to fall in love
The world was on fire
And no one could save me but thee
‘Tis strange how desire hath a mockery made of me
I never dreamed I would love someone such as thee
I never dreamed I would lose someone such as thee
No I don’t want to fall in love
No I don’t want to fall in love
With thee

Yep. Thought of her too.
Just as haunting and somber as the original. The fact there's minimal lyric change speaks as well for what a timeless piece it is.
Beautiful! You have the voice of an angel as always. I think the pipes are the perfect addition to this song, they sound so melancholy and yearning
I wasn’t sold till I heard the pipes. So, I was sold from the beginning 🤣
I never knew I needed something so much until I heard this.
I strongly prefer this to the original. That main melody is just perfect for the pipes.
Perfect music for a heart weary soul to begin a long quest. When you sing the world stops to listen. Thank you for all you do.

This is now the 2nd best version of this song. Every time I go back to the original, I find some new perfection I never noticed before. The same is true of von Blingin. This isn't satire, it's not a joke. It's a beautiful piece of art. Bravo.

This Medieval version of the song is so beautiful 😍 I simply love it. I'm daydreaming of how amazing would have been to play this song in a court, in front of the King and Queen...❤
Your stuff makes me wish I still played D&D so I could use your music as tavern or banquet ambiance.
I love the original song and you really did a wonderful job on this!
🎉 Babe wake up. Von blingin just posted.
Hildegard's covers demonstrate how timeless truly good songs are. Thank you for your transcendent and beautiful art!
I dunno what came over me but instant tears. Sobbing at some points. The original has always had a massive impact on my emotions and the uilleann pipes just kind of blew me away. Beautiful
I didn't want to fall in love with this song, but I did. Thankfully, it was just a tribute.
That Mr. Issak has yet to leave a comment (unless he doth hide his identity), full of praise for this delicate rendering... So I shall praise Hildegard in his stead. 'Beautiful', Milady...all the roses at your feet. 🌹🌹🌹

One word: WOW!!!!!
DAMN! i found this randomly. This would fit very well in Witcher or KCD despite the dissimilarities of era.
Utter perfection.
I've listened to this song a number of times since it's been released. It makes me cry almost every time, and it makes me ache for things it feels I lost lifetimes ago when the icy winds swept over the mountains cold enough to make your lungs burn with every breath, but the fur from the hides wrapped round you were enough to keep you warm as you stood watch in the growing twilight for the one you loved.
Utterly magical as always. A completely perfect voice.
I usually enjoy these songs but this one is... bigger. More haunting than the original - if at all possible. Not a parody; not an adaptation; deeply moving in its own right. Beautiful. Thank you.
Verily thus, another marvelous melody grace us , thank thee oh yee magnificent lady thou!
The intro alone is perfect. Love how it sounds like a Scottish hymn. Definitely need an instrumental version of this
Lady Hildegard, thy voice is most mellifluous! Thy lyrical and harmonic adaptations should be markèd most widely.
Fair Lady Hildegard von Blingin, her voice, a celestial gift, weaves enchantment, captivating all who hear. Her dulcet tones, akin to dawn's lark, resonate, granting glimpses of divine harmony. With purity and resonance akin to nature's wonders, each note she crafts transcends mortal song. Her mastery evokes emotions profound, stirring joy and melancholy alike. In her performance, music's essence unfolds, resonating within existence itself. Lady Hildegard von Blingin, an unparalleled minstrel whose melodies ensnare the heart and elevate the spirit.
So hauntingly beautiful. It's like half remembering a heartbreak from a life a thousand years ago. I can almost see a maiden in the forest in the middle of the night singing this while casting a spell over a fire to save her heart from someone who's love is untrue.
this channel is a gift from god
Now to sing this in Gaelic and really get the goosbumps going
Stunning.
One of my favorite songs by Chris Isaak.
22 seconds in and I have chills, literally
You've knocked it out of the park again, Hildy! Marvelous work, the instrumentals were magic and your voice the cherry on top, as always. Edit: many cherries on top. Goosebumps. Shivers.
WHAT AT WHICKED THOUGHT TO FREE, TO MAKE ME DREAM OF THEE is the best lyrical composition I´ve ever heard! wow. Just WOw

❤🔥
The pipes are otherworldly.
Forsoothe Lady Hyldegard, thy fayr countenance pleaseth myne eyne and thy angelyc musyc pleaseth myne ear. Y prythee for thy hand yn marryage. ❤
Brilliant treatment of a brilliant song. It's such a great song - it's hard to make a bad version of it tbh, but as other commentors have mentioned the lyrical adaptations are excellent. Deeply haunting and understated, a quality the original poseeses - takes you to another world, another time, another feeling....
In a word:perfect
You're beyond bardcore novelty value and into "better than the original" territory
Omg this is a song I didn't know I wanted covered, but I'm so glad it was. It makes perfect sense that it was chosen.
The addition of uilleann pipes to this is just beautiful. I love it.
I hope there is a music historian out there who can shed some light on whether these 'medieval covers' of modern songs would be appreciated in medieval times. Would they have been as enamoured and amazed as us? Wonderful, just wonderful.

I think this is the best version of this song. It feels like stepping into a dream and also like a funeral dirge both the joy and grief of love. Well done, Hildy

I didn't want to, but after hearing this song I am now fallen terribly in love. Wicked art thou indeed, devilish songstress! (Have to say I think this may be one of your most beautiful works, your voice is truly enchanting here, and you evoke just the right amount of the pain that comes with love. Thank you for sharing it.)
This is one of my favourite songs and due to that I have listened to at least over 50+ covers of the song on various platforms trying to find the best other than the original. This is the ONLY one that I have ever liked, if not completely loved, and I’m so happy you made this. I really thought I would never find a similar if not better version of this song.
