I don't know why people who visit here always only seem to mention Pizza Hut and White Castle. For God's sake, Wichita is best known for it's AVIATION history! Cessna, Beechcraft, and Learjet all started here! And Boeing built 1600 B-29 bombers here during World War II. So c'mon, Wichita didn't turn out just hamburgers and pizzas! Rock legend Joe Walsh, also "Cheers" star Kirstie Alley is from Wichita. And the FIRST African-American to win an Oscar, Hattie McDaniel, was also from Wichita! And I might add that Wichita is the hometown of arguably the greatest running back in NFL history. . .A guy by the name of Barry Sanders. Just seems that every video I see about Wichita only mentions Pizza Hut and White Castle. Wichita is also the home of one of our country's USAF bases, McConnell Air Force Base. And along with it's aviation history, the second largest private company in the entire United States, Koch Industries, is headquartered here with a huge corporate campus. The city also just built a beautiful brand new baseball park downtown that is now the home of one of the Minnesota Twins minor league teams. And the Intrust Bank Arena downtown attracts big name performers and sports events. It just seems to me that people look up Wichita on Wikipedia, pick out a few things like Pizza Hut or Wyatt Earp and never seem to really find out how much more there is to the history of this town. And NO, I'm not a Wichita native crowing about my hometown. . .I moved here from someplace else!

I was born in Wichita,1961, what about the Santa Fe trail, and one of the oldest railroads the Santa Fe rails, there's more than the city of Wichita, I miss fishing or swimming in the great lakes within driving distance from the city, lake Afton, or el Dorado lake, I was there when it started to grow into a beautiful lake, how about the crayola factory on the east southern border of the state, another famous movie star from Wichita, Judy Garland's , her high school picture is at North High, I've was in pleasant valley Jr. High, where I met Don Johnson, for 2yrs, and also lived a block from each other, I left many years ago, but miss the lakes for sure, besides chasing tornadoes

The first white castle was introduced in Wichita Kansas. We now do not have one at all! Lol

Born and raised in Wichita Kansas. You know the Drury plaza hotel actually has a sealed off tunnel that was used as an escape. Chisholm trail st is actually Douglas.

Not to mention, many many ghost stories, it’s a beautiful old hotel!! There’s also an old Speakeasy in the basement as well and it’s very cool!! Wichita is really an amazing place to live, I live about 20-30 minutes north and west of Wichita in the country. Really wish you would’ve highlighted our amazing zoo, one of the top rated in the US, it takes all day to make your way through and will still probably not see everything!! Fun fact, I actually had met BTK while working at a veterinarian clinic in Park City while he was the compliance officer there. He had brought in a few animals who had been hit by cars, we always thought he did it because he was definitely a strange man!!! There’s so much history here and awesome things to do, just wish we could’ve seen more of that!!!

That's surprising. When I was 5 I used to see those yellow fall out shelter signs on like the wichita art association east central and wondered if they teally would prevent radiation exposure. I'll bet not.

I definitely chuckled at that as well. People don't know that it's the call sign for the airport, if they're not from here. I've lived all around the world and this is the only city that Associates itself with the airport call sign. It's no surprise that he didn't understand.

Local here 👋 while in Kansas, Arkansas is pronounced Ar-Kansas. As you were driving in the arts district, you completely missed the farmers market with so many local vendors. I have lived here all of my life and if you ever need a tour of the city, hit me up. We have an awesome food scene, food trucks galore and an over abundance of local artists. This to me is maybe 10% of what Wichita is about. We love our Keeper and sunsets but there is so much more 💜

Don’t mean to be rude here but as a local I felt that you could have highlighted our city better with instead of showing closed down chicken buildings or abandon down town buildings, you could show our zoo or aviation building or museums. We have a wonderful century two and exploration place and many local restaurants that highlight our mom and pop shops! The art and train museums are amazing, also the correct church BTK was from was right across the street from Heights High school just sayin

I so much agree with your comment, Carly. He sought out the worst of the city. No Frank Lloyd Wright home. No zoo. No baseball stadium. No new airport. No Exploration Place. He showed off one whole statue from downtown. Surely, he noticed more than the little girl and the pony were part of a series of statues. I think all Wichitans could name 85 other original eating and drinking establishments that are Wichita staples. Wow, this guy hit all the low lights with South Broadway. And it's the Ar-Kansas not Arkansaw. And El Doraaaado

Moved to Wichita almost 2 years ago and it's pretty different from what I'm used to. I lived in rural North Carolina for over a decade, so the first thing I noticed when I came here was how FLAT it is. And how WINDY. It reminded me so much of the beach lol. I really like it, though. Lots of opportunities and lots of fun to get into. Cost of living isn't so bad, either. I've made so many friends here, not to mention finally moving with the love of my life. I'm pretty happy I decided to move when I did. My life is forever changed, in the best way.

Thank you so much for coming to our City!! I knew nothing about the troll so that was really cool to me 💗 I'm planning on going down see him this evening. Wichita is also known for the Dockem sit ins. During a time where racism was terrible and "whites only" signs were displayed. African Americans risked their lives to go into the Dockem Pharmacy to have something to eat. That is not only a big part of History for Wichita, but the United States period. I'm very proud of that and just wanted to share.

Native Wichitan here, the building with Kress at the top was the buildng built by the S. H. Kress & Co. department store. It operated from 1930 to 1968 it is located on Douglas street and Broadway which was originally where the Chisholm Trail went. Really a very good video depicting some of the best of Wichita.

Note: I got lost today and ended up by the riverwalk new townhomes and hotels... North of Dougles, just west of the river.. I was surprise about how many, beautuful, expensive 4 level buildings they have built! World class accomodations there!

The Drury Hotel is known to Wichitans as the hotel Broadview. For the true crime aficionado, the 26 story building just east of your hotel used to be a Holiday Inn. In 1976, a sniper killed 3 and injured 8 during a shooting rampage from a 26th floor balcony.

@@semilio1 Not so much in the last decade or so, it seems that Oklahoma is catching the tornados as of late, and I don't remember their ever being a flood. They did build a giant flood way around the west side of the city that diverts water back into the river just south of the city in derby. I have seen like 18 inches of snow once or twice, but usually we get a couple of inches once or twice a year. I'm 56 now and have lived here or within an 80-mile radius of Wichita for all of those years. I grew up in Derby and lived one block over from the tornado in Haysville that hit in the 90's, I also did a lot of building after the Andover tornado. About a month ago there were some tornado warnings going off, I believe a couple touched down several miles outside the city in fields. Just know someone with a basement if you don't have one, and you will know hours before if there is a chance, and plenty of time before if the chance is probable. Ever since Andover and Haysville the advanced storm warning system has been very sensitive, so you will know if something may happen, and I have never heard of anyone getting hurt in a basement or underground.

I have lived in Kansas my whole life, and the majority of it was in the Wichita area (small town about thirty miles outside the city limits). I'm currently living I'm Wichita itself and got so excited because you drove right past my street when you were in north Wichita. I was sad to see that, despite the fact that you spent a lot of time at the Keeper and downtown, you didn't go down the water walk. It's so pretty and there is so much to see in the way of art and different water fountains that are just amazing this time of year. Also, speaking of the Keeper, there are many artistic renditions of him around town that are always fun to see. When it comes to food, my personal favorites that are local are Nue Way and Spangel's. Braum's has the best milkshakes and Sundays. I could go on and on about the things I love here.

I'm glad that you enjoyed your visit to Wichita!! There are multiple things to do in this city, hopefully you come back some day to experience the rest of what we have to offer!

Ah, Wichita. I remember it fondly. We lived in a nearby south-central Kansas town for several years. Had life-saving surgery at one of the hospitals. Good people all.

When you started the downtown part, on Douglas & Broadway, the Chisholm Trail part wasn't the name of the street. The Chisholm Trail through Kansas (main thoroughfare for herding cattle) roughly followed what is now Douglas Street on the way to the railways in Abilene, Ks. As the railways started to be built further south, the end of the trail was Newton, then Wichita, then finally Caldwell, Ks. Go west on Douglas across the river (what is now the Delano District) was where the Cowboys would go for our wild west version of a Red Light District.

I'm surprised you didn't mention any of the aerospace companies located in Wichita, nor the McConnell Airforce base. All are landmarks in Doo-dah.

He may already do this, but it might be good to read the Wikipedia entry about any place he’s planning to visit, but he may just want to explore the places like any tourist who doesn’t know much about the where they end up. Of course, he and his wife can’t be expected to hit all the highlights. @@TBNTX I didn’t know Doo-Dah was used by locals to refer to Wichita. I wonder when and why that started, since I haven’t lived in the area for 40 years? I do know about Wichita’s Doo-Dah Diner, but never knew what the name came from.

As a lifelong resident of Wichita you did a pretty good job of showing some of the highlights of our city. The major thing that Wichita is known for his being the air capital city. Wichita is the home and found in place of Cessna Beechcraft and Learjet. I wish someone was able to have directed you to the Wichita air Museum. Maybe on the next trip. I used to live in Cicero, Illinois. Looking for a great place to live, we searched and investigated 10 great cities... And chosen Wichita Ks. Why? Lower cost of living, lower crime, low taxes, very low traffic and plenty of highways. High paying aviation jobs, plenty of night life (you have to look for it.. or ask... But is there) lots of cultural events, museums, and contrary to perception: Wichita welcomes every one! Every race, creed, color, sex.. after 20 years here I can say I made the best decision in my life: Move to Wichita!

Wichita is a horrible place to live. My biracial daughter got shot with a bb gun and called the N word by a white boy. I'm saving every penny to get out of here. Worse choice of my life to move here.

Nice video. Pretty positive, and accurate, depiction of parts of town. I spent the first 30 years of my life in and around Wichita. Am now retired and living in southeast Florida near the ocean, but thinking about moving back to my roots in Wichita after being gone for more than 40 years. By the way, the word ICT on the downtown mural is the three letter abbreviation/designation for the Wichita commercial airport. In Kansas the Arkansas River is not pronounced like the state of Arkansas. In Kansas it’s called the Ar-Kansas, pronounced the same as the state. The word Orpheum, as in the theater, is pronounced with the emphasis on the first syllable, OR-phe-um. You wouldn’t have been expected to know these, but just in case you ever return. Best wishes!

FYI. As per the State of Arkansas Historical Society the pronunciation of the state "Ar Kan Saw" is French in origin and the pronunciation of "Ar Kansas" is the English pronunciation. This is said to be to differentiate the state and it's French influence from Kansas. Thank you for visiting.

@@k_t530 In and around Wichita and in areas along the river, I’ve only heard the Ar-Kanzus pronunciation. All the TV/radio news people in Wichita use that pronunciation. But maybe not in other parts of the state. It’s a bit of a local quirk. Kansas pride, I suspect.

I’m so envious of this undertaking of seeing all the states! I’ve been to 46 of 48 contiguous states. the two I lack are Texas and…Kansas…and, of course Alaska and Hawaii. I really enjoyed your video of Wichita (as well as your other videos). You’re doing what we want to do when we retire. Hoping to complete my list very soon (gas prices ya know). Safe travels.

Wichita Chicken was barely even open. The building was a Church's Chicken many many years ago. I think Wichita Chicken opened up maybe in March of 2020, and by May it was closed due to arson. There's suspicion that the owner was involved.

Only time i ate there was the day bfor it caught fire. Food and service was good. I did hear the same thing but i also heard it was the chicken place across the street didn't want to lose any business to them.(which i highly doubt that) It was owned and operated by forienors. But i also heard the way it caught fire was from the deep fryers.

It looks clean and peaceful.I love the beautiful neighborhoods with the old style homes with big yards.I am impressed with Wichita.

There's an area in Wichita called riverside that has a bunch of older cute home surrounded by some of our largest parks and the river. Absolutely love it. There is also College hill that is popular because of the old homes and the neighborhood itself. During halloween and Christmas they go all out and it's Absolutely amazing. Like all cities we have our sketchy areas but honestly I adore Wichita.

I REALLY appreciate that you show where the residents of the places you visit live. Just the same shots of downtown get boring, and one really doesn't learn about the culture of the area. Thank you so much!

I can honestly say, having been born in Wichita, Kansas this was like being back home all over again. Wichita is full of awesome & amazing things. Oh & Wichita began as a trading post on the Chisholm Trail in the 1860s and was incorporated as a city in 1870 but I'm sure someone's already mentioned it.

I grew up in Colorado, pretty much right where the plains start lifting up into the foothills of the Rockies. I was there until I was 16, when we moved to Florida. Been here for thirty years now. To this day however, I have an abiding sense of claustrophobia, that I only really notice in it's absence anymore. Seeing that intro with the wide open highway made me feel like I could breathe a little easier for just a second. Cheers for that!

I'm just the opposite, I love the greenery of the trees and when I drive out west on I 70 or I 80 and see a sign that says no service for the next 153 mile, and the horizon is beyond visual, it makes me feel real tiny

As a native Wichitan, you missed so many good spots! Maybe Google things to see when you are local so you hit the key highlights. But overall I appreciate your perspective on my hometown.

I appreciate that you sound interested in Wichita, KS. I grew up there and I probably will always think of it as “home.” Ict is airline talk for Wichita. Farmers used to always say that they knew it was below freezing because the snot in their nose would freeze when they went out to milk the cows. Wichita is a good, quiet city to raise one’s family. The Delano District is where Wyatt Earp had a hotel (the Delano Dist was a “red light district) and he was known to be part of it. He didn’t actually have a “stellar” reputation, lol! Crayola, Pizza Hut, Coleman, Cessna, Lear Jet, Beechcraft, Vornado Fans, were just some of the companies based out of Wichita or nearby suburbs.

Pizza Hut moved out a few years ago, too. As the Air Capital, we literally have everything except Lockheed Martin. Airbus has a call center here. Boeing sold but planes are still made here under Spirit Aerosystems, Cessna, Learjet, Bombardier, Beechcraft (founded here), and McConnell AFB. Also the restaurant capital means whatever kind of food you want, you can find, and almost every chain puts one here to test expansion and franchising potential. Highly recommend Julias Ribcage, Kabobs, N and J’s, and Da Cajun Shak and Pho Cuong.

Loved that Troll under the grating. Can’t help but think it would be cool if it was lit up at night with some neon strobe lights and maybe a hidden speaker with sound effects. @@rowietappy187 it is sad about a year ago they spray painted all over the veterans memorial by the keeper then like a month ago a bunch of "finest kids" from 21st an piatt decided to have a shoot out in the parking lot for the keeper and there has been a few of them robbing people and breaking into cars there also. Went a couple of weeks ago and saw a few car loads of them and just left anytime I see a bunch of them I just leave hell the same people are the ones who decided to have a gang fight at town east where a 14yo shot and killed a 15yo in the middle of the mall.

I lived here for 2 years just before my dad retired from the Air Force. Some of the fondest times of my life were made here. I loved it. Just wish Joyland was still there. McConnell AFB was great! Played my first golf and got my first kiss in Wichita! ❤❤❤

The Chisholm Trail street signs depicted the route of the old Chisholm trail. The street you identified as Chisholm Trail was actually Douglas Avenue.

I'm from Park City, lived about a block away from BTK's old house for most of my life. He was our Dog Catcher and was a boy scout leader with my grandpa when I was in scouts. Always seemed like a pretty normal guy, never would have guessed he did what he did.

He was a neighbor and scout leader to family, family to friends of my parents in school, the neighborhood dog catcher of my ex. It’s insane how much he was involved. Popped up again my senior year when he was shortly after caught and I remember reading and hearing all these stories.

Grew up right outside of Wichita in Goddard Kansas and know Wichita very well . spent many an hour in that historic movie theater downtown watching old Clint Eastwood movies in the late 50s or early 60s. Had my fill of Kansas weather in 1971 the high for the week was 17° so I packed up all of my belongings in my 68 Corvette and headed for Galveston and never looked back .

Great video, I always wanted to see what Wichita looked like.

Enjoyed your video. Glad you drove around showing neighborhoods, that's not something I see often on 'checking out the city' tours. Great ! You showed the chalk wall building, ICT is the airport insignia for Wichita, by the way. You'll see ICT around, if you wondered. Lol, I noticed someone already let you know about pronouncing Ar-Kansas River. Now, as soon as you get out of state, it's back to "Arkansaw" and so do we call that same state to our Southeast. Funny :) Oh, and El Dorado is pronounced El DO RA DO, over here. all long vowels except the E So glad you visited ! You don't look like Tom Arnold to me but, no beer goggles on, right now Haha! I live in Wichita Kansas. A lot of the downtown area is run down and abandoned at the moment but the city is trying to restore it with lots of local businesses and art. The southern side of Whichita, where I live, often has a bad smell due to the water treatment plant. Whichita is a wonderful city and is so large that each part of the city is basically a whole other city. It's actually really cool. My aunt lives about a block away from one of the first BTK houses. There's still so much of Wichita that you haven't visited yet. The city is so large that it takes over a half an hour just to get from one side to the other. If you ever get a chance to, the Sedgwick county zoo is a beautiful place to visit. You should come back to see more if you ever get a chance to:).

We love our city! (Except for the btk part) Thank you for showing us off, there's a lot more, next time you're here check out our zoo, it's the best I've ever seen. Also our Riverside park and community, Cowtown and of course the beautiful College Hill "old money" homes

You drove through some of the worst parts of town! You missed a few things, like Riverside, the neighborhood right behind the Keeper. There's a park where Wichita's original zoo was (at least one building is still there) and there's a "baby" zoo with native animals (kinda sad, but I think most of them are rehabilitated animals). We also have a Frank Lloyd Wright house in College Hill, one of our oldest and most beautiful neighborhoods which you were like a couple blocks from at one point (there's some cute little shops/restaurants over there, along with one of Kirstie Alley's houses). Several people are correct, you didn't really address that we are "The Air Capital of the Nation" (not so much anymore, bc Boeing left), but we had essentially every major American airplane manufacturer AND an AFB here at one point. You should've shown the massive mural on the side of a grain bin too!! It was the largest mural in the world for a minute before someone painted a bigger one somewhere else in the world. Painted by a Columbian artist and their team. You kinda drove right past it out by WSU and the warehouse district. Our city has been amping up artwork everywhere and it's fantastic. Wichita is a really good city to live in. I tell everyone it's just a gigantic small town, bc almost everyone you meet will likely know at least one other person you do, even if it's a stretch.

when i was a kid in the 80s they had alligators there at that small zoo. I remember when they remodeled it in the early 90s. The keeper of the plains was near there as well, they moved it in the early 2000s i think.

Toto, you're finally in Kansas, congrats! I remember you were In Kansas City, MO and wouldn't go across the railroad tracks because you wanted to wait and go to the state of Kansas last, and across the railroad tracks you'd be in Kansas. Sorry but that struck me so funny. Truth be told, I haven't finished the video, but got sidetracked reading the comments. It's always interesting to hear from people who are from the area who add so much knowledge, from tips on what to see 'next time' to how to pronounce the local names, to any other mistakes they perceive you made. So many people proud of their local city and area. "It's a good thing," as they say and contributes much in my humble opinion.

Native Wichitan, now living out of state. Loved seeing my hometown profiled in your journeys. Chisholm Trail is actually Douglas Ave. The original cattle trail ran through downtown. Also, after they were bought by Pepsi, Pizza Hut used to have a nice corporate HQ on east Douglas, near Webb Rd, before moving to Dallas in about 2001. Finally, if you pronounce the river like the state around Wichita locals, expect funny looks. That's how we could tell out-of-towners. In Wichita, the river is pronounced "Ar-KAN-zus."

The abandoned parking garage was by the former KG&E (Kansas Gas & Electric) Building. One used to be able to pay their home's gas bill there.

I wish you’d driven out East to see the huge mansions and stores - and out west you’d find our amazing zoo and Tanganyika Park and woodland areas - downtown is nice but our city is very diverse. We have more millionaires per capita than the rest of the US, and our music and artist community are incredible - we do have nightlife and our Music Theatre of Wichita brings in Broadway talent every summer. Don Johnson, Kristi Alley are a few actors from Wichita. Our town is the testing ground for most fast food chains. Harrison Ford comes here every year to buy a plane, as we do have Boeing and an Air Force base. A local guide could tell you all this and help show the best parts of a city. We have comic cons ad well. You also filmed an FBI office without realizing it. Town gets hopping at 5:00 pm. You did find the troll hit missed all the really cool stuff and people. Side note - you pronounce the state of Arkansas as Ar-can-saw. You province the rivers as Ar-can-sas. You wouldn’t know this but makes locals grin when you get it wrong. Thanks for visiting our city.

College Hill neighborhood, where you were, are very old homes whereas Wilson Estates, Vickeridge, and around Charles Kochs estate is where most everyone are millionaires+. Sadly, you missed alot of what made Wichita. Aircraft business(Air Capital of the World), Chisholm Trail(though you saw a bit since it goes down Douglas then north up Broadway), Cowtown. Oh, Kirbys has had some great bands end up there after concerts as well as up-and-coming traveling bands.

Don't forget that Wichita produced the first African American to win an Oscar. Wichita native Hattie McDaniel won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Mammy in Gone with the Wind (1939). She was only one generation removed from slavery. Her father fought in the Civil War with the 122nd United States Colored Troops.

I’m honestly disappointed that you missed so much of our beautiful city. Yes, the keeper is amazing but you missed our Wichita Sedgwick County historical museum downtown, century two architecture, cowtown (building built in 1890), the Frank Lloyd Wright house built in 1915, the Kansas aviation museum (what Wichita is known for), and my favorite The Original Dream. It is a mural painted by Gleo on an old grain elevator near 21st and Topeka. According to Wichita Eagle it is the largest mural painted by a single artist. Get a local to show you around next time. We would to show you what we are actually about and have to offer.

Hi! Born and raised in wichita! Loved this video! I actually got to learn some new things about my own city so thats neat!

I was so surprised to see this video. I am a Wichita local and it is so weird to see people travel thru this city I know and well to be honest and absolutely in love with. If you ever come back I recomend you visit a place called Revelusia, The work room, and Nifty Nut House. If shops and candy aren’t your thing try out cow town or come down during Riverfest it is a really big thing.

Interesting tour of an out-of-the-way city. Back in the day (after the Civil War), Wichita was famous for being the endpoint of cattle drives from Texas; it is where the livestock would be loaded into trains for shipment to meatpackers in Chicago and elsewhere. Thanks for sharing.

Your shots of the Arkansas River and surrounding areas are just breathtaking. All of them from beginning to end. Great video! I know there are some negative comments, here, from the locals, but you can't see everything. Maybe you'll swing back by one day and take in some of the local sights they suggested? 🙂👍

So my boyfriend lives in Andover (right next to Wichita) so every once in awhile I come down! Its a really lovely place, lots of culture, and great sights to see! If you're gonna go anywhere, I always suggest going to the Spice Merchant! They has a ton of spices for super cheap and they have a wide range of coffee and tea! Also! There's a KZread named Lisa Nguyen who likes to show off restaurants in Wichita and Kansas City and I highly suggest looking at her channel! She's got some real gems on there!

"Ict" ha, surely you found out, ICT is the airports abbreviation, we refer to the city as I-C-T also. Glad you had fun.

Albert Alexander Hyde invented Mentholatum in Wichita. AA Hyde with his Brother-in-law founded the Yucca Company in 1889, & changed the name to Mentholatum Company, Inc. in 1895 (I believe). The building is still on the corner of Douglas and Cleveland. The Spice Merchant occupies the building which is on the National Registry of Historical Sites.

My daughter lives in Wichita and I love visiting her! There's so many places to visit and things to see! But, being a chatty West Virginia native strangers look at me like I've sprouted 2 heads when I talk to them. But, if you're in Kansas go to Independence and see the Laura Ingalls Wilder farm museum. So worth the drive!

Problem with Wichita is just that. Lots of things to do if you are rarely there, but if you live there my God how many times can you go to Cow Town and see the same damn thing over and over. Exploration Place was no different when I was there. Bottom line is if you are under 21 in Kansas there are two things to do, drink Illegally and watch the wheat grow. If you are over 21 there are two things to do, drink legally and watch the wheat grow!! O wasmt born in Wichita but spent 29 years there '83-2012, and spent 20 years in the factory at Coleman. There wasn't anttjing to do for young teens and even older ones that didnt cost an arm and leg.

They are very judgey in KS, especially Wichita. I prefer the KC area to Wichita. I lived there for over 12 year's of my life. I was from Jersey originally, so "an outsider" in the 5th grade. It was awful. Treated like crap because I was so "different", talked funny, dressed like myself etc. In their small minds, I was from the "crime ridden northeast", probably from the "concrete jungles" they imagined (I legit grew up on the beach in Long Branch, amongst wealthy people) Meanwhile, BTK was serving me up hot dogs and touching my hand at the church across the street from my high school! For our fellowship lunches. 🥴🙃

The guy you shown at the end by the name of "BTK" was arrested in Park City, just outside of Wichita. The police had his house surrounded while I was just down the street with my family at the Quick Trip watching it happen. I did not know what was going on at the time, but later on that night had discovered that the man I saw get arrested was the BTK. I will never forget that moment.

I think you gave it a good snapshot as a visitor. Wichita is a big small town honestly (relocated here from Los Angeles). There is more to see including a very great zoo, museums, ballpark, and other things. But I liked that you showed a typical Saturday in Wichita. Good Job!

Next time you pass through, stop at Old Cowtown Museum. It's a Wichita treasure. It's an accredited living history museum with local old buildings and artifacts that will make you feel like you stepped back in time to the rough and tumble days of this old cattle town between 1865 and 1880. Also, Wichita Chicken was owned by two brothers and they had great fried chicken but the pandemic took it's toll and they wound up trying to burn it down to collect the insurance money...unfortunate.

Also take an hour drive to Dodge City, historical boot hill, if they love fishing there's many beautiful lakes, the smell of sweet corn growing in the fields, including wheat,. I am also a Wichita native, traveled highway 81,or interstate 35, daily or a break from the city , relaxing at the lakes surrounding the area of the city, only thing I miss chasing tornadoes

I was stationed at McConnell before retiring from the AF. Loved it there.

Kinda got me nervous when you walked into the abandoned place down town. Down town can be pretty dangerous especially alone.

The dive bar reminds me of some pubs I used to frequent back in the UK. Interesting characters in everyone of them ;-)

LOL 😆 I live down the street from the chicken restaurant. We have been complaining to the city for years about that building. Definitely gonna share this with my neighbors.

I had the impression he turned himself in. I lived in Wichita 79 to 82 never heard a word about the btk. It seemed the police could have gone out of state and got a better detective than they had. Like the one in Colo. Springs who solved 19 of 21 crimes.

He would go to all the murder scenes afterwards and was around everyone and the police. They only caught him because he switched his clue method to CD's which the cops were able to trace back to a computer he used

That Keeper of the Flames statue is Black Bear Bosin. The statue was donated to Wichita by a local artist. I live in Kansas and my school did research on this statue.
