Why Your Street Photography Doesn't Stand Out
Фильм және анимация
Your street photography doesn't stand out yet and that's okay, there are many factors here. Street photography is difficult compared to most other genres. Regardless of the camera or lens you choose to use, the difference between a good photo and a boring photo is the effort and commitment you apply to your street photography practice. Both with subject matter and by implementing a supporting subject in your images, we can slowly create truly unique images.

More emphasis needs to be on the enjoyment of creating rather than the desire to be admired for it.

Absolutely!
The Walkie Talkie video with Melissa O’Shaughnessy is one of my favourite street photography videos, she has an excellent portfolio, an awesome photographer.

She’s hugely influential
"The magic of the street is the mingling of the errand and the epiphany" is a quote by Rebecca Solnit. Melissa was referring to it.

Yes that what she says in the video
Melissa inspires me on- take photos for yourself not social media. The one thing I’m pushing myself is to get closer

Amazing, getting closer is definitely an important part of the process

Agreed. I’m in the middle of a “don’t post photos on IG for a year” personal challenge and taking photos just for myself
When I first saw the cross on the church, I thought it was a drive-through [walk-through] confessional. The video playing in the view finder is clever. Interesting topic presented with some humor, good job.
3:20 is astonish see how many people got touch by the @PaulieB Walkie Talkie with Melissa O'Shaughnessy. “Carry a camera with intent make you more attuned to everything in the world”
Great video, George! I'm a huge Martin Parr fan and I too enjoy finding humor or irony in my photos and always seeking the story. These are all great tips too! I really love the image of the man with the cigarette as well as the couple with the matching shirts! I also absolutely love when we get to see your "mini me"!! I'm about to do a massive update to my portfolio on my website, which hasn't been updated in years so this video helps me focus. Thank you.
I'm fairly new to you channel, but wanted to say that I appreciate your videos and the work that goes into them. Informative and really funny at the same time. Thank you!

I appreciate that! Thank you!
Great video!
The second video of yours I see. Very interesting. I subscribe !
Vey good episode. Useful and timely, as I am searching for ways to grow in my photographic style and voice, and forcing myself to search for scenes and story, rather than pretty pictures of ‘things’. Thank you.
I was so glad to see your inclusion of Wim Wender's Perfect Days, as an example supporting your discourse. Huge fan of that film. Now I'll go find out about Martin Parr. Thanks
first this is the greatest accomplishment I made in the last 10 minutes

Congrats
"Fun fact, only one of those was taken by me 🤓" love it
The assumption here is that objective critique is available to the artist... Unfortunately that is what is really missing for many.. likes from strangers isn't critique and doesn't improve ones photography..👍

Very true, I think that's why being critical of your own work is good but I definitely need to learn a lot more before I can judge any if my work, I should try do a portfolio review with someone but I'm scared 😂
The finger going shush and the mitosis alone were enough for the like 💀😂
I have 2 philosophies that dictate my street photography.... image #1 is to see something nobody else noticed. Ie: bublegum on a doorway covered in tags #2. Chasing light: a normal subject that the photographer could stake out for months and not get the same image.
Don't sell yourself short, 7:31 it is amazing . . . Shhhh 🤫👆 5:32 😂
Ciao video molto interessante grazie!
Hey i got a Question i hope you respond, is the Fujifilm Instax mini 99 good for vacations casual photography and street photography? or is the Sony NEX-C3 better or Sony NEX-5? pls help this is my first time buying a camera pls help im on a budget
@GeorgeHolden

The Instax really is more of a fun printing camera! The NEX 5 is definitely good for progressing and trying different lenses
Mitosis ♥

@@GeorgeHolden nice! come again soon. thx for your videos. great stuff.
I find your videos very interesting. Too bad I don't understand English and have to read the translation. I love Edward Hopper's paintings, but if you look at his paintings in the early stages, they are not very interesting. Everything needs time to mature.
you know why its special? Because it looks so saturated, as if it was made with an old camera which makes it nostalgic which is pretty much what gen z is seeking for, times they never experienced and only read shit in books about. They think back then it was heaven, everything was better, if they would only know... (im judging by the thumbnail btw)

You know what's funny mate... I've watched the whole video and agree with all. Then I looked at your own "street" photo's and had a very good laugh. Do as I say and not as I do. Terrible work.
