    I put Gibson headers and free flow exhaust on my GMC pickup truck 4.3L. I picked up 5 miles to a gallon. I think part of it was the old Catalytic converts were clogged up and a bolt busted off the manafold due to back pressure. With the new headers and free flow exhaust I got lots of power and better gas mileage? is that is normal? If all vehicles can pickup 5 mpg it is a good investment to put headers/free flow exhaust system.

    You’re right on the dot for this one Scotty. I can attest to this myself with my 2006 BMW 325iA. It’s amazing how people don’t realize too changing fluids makes a significant difference. But one reason too is that people might also have to change their driving style. I changed mine and averaged 36mpg Highway from Charlotte, NC to Fredericksburg, VA in a car rated at 29mpg highway, and this was fully loaded as I was moving back from Houston (Willowbrook Area). My best return though was the sensors. I always say between 85k to 100k is the time to change the MAF and O2 sensors near the cats. Plus around that mileage they’re just about worn out anyway, so some preventative maintenance can also help prevent any possible future damage to your catalytic converters.

    Scotty awesome video. I have no idea about car troubleshooting or repairs. . I had a Nissan California 1988 or 89 Philippine issue. I had a mechanic/friend back in the late 1990’s in Manila tried to figure out where the water was coming from soaking my floor carpet wet when it rains hard. We kept stripping my car floor carpet and side door panels off but it never got better. Helping my friend work on my car before taught me a little bit. Anyways, there’s not so major mechanical problems on my car except for that and the idling. Seeing your vids and your untiring effort giving your viewers a bunch of ideas on how to take care of your own car is really delightful. I want to learn more of how to troubleshoot and take care of my own car. I saw a couple of your vids a month or so back and now I’m a new subscriber. More power to you and your channel from Illinois.

    As I said in another Scotty video - I have preached this for 40 years! But most of the time it falls on deaf ears! When the car breaks down most owners do not want to hear what they did wrong or what they could have done to prevent it! They only want to know 3 things - "Can you make it go?" , "How much? , and "How long?"

    And that's why they've been designing vehicles and lubricants to require less and less maintenance. Change your oil once a year, transmission fluid in five years, and no one even knows what a lube job is anymore. With EVs, people will hardly need to do any maintenance ever.

    and if they only realized that if they spent a little on preventive maintenance, they could save themselves LOADS of money on unnecessary premature repairs. It's really just simple stuff too, fluids and getting to know the sounds your car typically makes. If it makes a weird sound, find out what it is and get it fixed or fix it yourself. Chain reaction, right? The leg bone's connected to the hip bone kinda thing. Many things affect something else connected to them.

    Bill Does Stuff Forget it! You're tilting at windmills! I do airport transportation and my car is my living! I'm one of those crazy people that still changes oil every 3000 Miles, transmission fluid every 15000 miles (even more important because most cars do not have serviceable transmission filters) coolant every year, spark plugs and serpentine belt every 50,000 miles, wax every month (because my car has to look good for my job!). And I do all of the servicing MYSELF! In addition I have three other cars to look after. My 1999 Hyundai Accent has 172,000 miles on it with the original engine, clutch, and transmission! My 2000 Chevrolet S10 was purchased 7 years ago for $500 with 74274 miles on it and a DESTROYED ENGINE! The previous owner knew NOTHING about maintenance! So go ahead, claim your family time cuts in to your auto maintenance and some guy like me will come along and buy your destroyed car and fix it up or worse yet it will die a premature death and end up in the crusher! Either way, you'll be in PERPETUAL car payments!

    Scotty is right. I’m very diligent about preventative maintenance. Probably more than I need actually. My feeling are that a little spent on the front end actually saves much more on the back end. Every repair I do is back to spec. Had a transmission expert tell me that he would be almost out of business if people would just follow the maintenance schedule.

    Anyone who thinks that Buick LeSabres aren't terrific cars is nuts. They last forever if you maintain them well. It's incredible how many of them are still on the road. Mine's a 1996, and every single time I drive in any of the cities in my area, I will encounter LeSabres all over the place. It's not unusual for me to be in a parking lot, or stopped at a red light, and be surrounded by three or four LeSabres, all in excellent condition and running well. Every mechanic I've ever been to has told me never to sell my car, because it's one of the best used cars out there.

    This is a great video. I bought a used 2014 FIAT Panda with 160,000. I had all oils and fluids changed. it shifts like a dream now. But recently I noticed that the gas mileage is decreasing. I'm going to check the air filter today. I bought tools to remove. Fiat decided to put the air filter on the underside the beauty cover.

    damn, are you sure though? I floor the accelerator pedal in my old Toyota and do 180kph+ everyday. Could that really be the reason for my bad mileage? I think think the real reason for my poor gas mileage is due to fueling up on normal gas instead of premium gas. Yep, that's definitely the reason.

    Here's another tip: Don't ride on the passing lane and keep right except to pass. It may not affect the left lane hog, but it affects others around them that want to pass, which brings down the overall lane efficiency and gas mileage for those other drivers. Not only that, they're creating a dangerous situation where road rage and accidents are imminent.

    Another little trick I’ve learned to better mileage and I know people will say I’m crazy. Stick to one fuel brand. I had my 2014 Wrangler between 23-28 mpg and they’re only supposed to get 18-20. That’s with larger more aggressive tires. It takes about two or three months to notice a difference but give it a try. It’s well worth it.

  • @kingzach74

    @kingzach74

    Fuel brand has nothing to do with it. The federal government(in the USA) mandates a minimum quality standard of fuel that EVERY SINGLE gas company is required by law to follow. It is not worth it to splurge for Chevron or Shell gas, they don't do anything different than the cheaper stations. It is a WASTE of MONEY. Even Scotty said that in one of his videos. The only reason you should ever spend more money for gas is if your car requires premium because it has a high end Turbocharger or Supercharger and is a high end performance vehicle. Outside of that regular gas no matter where you get it is fine for most vehicles.
