Why Your Brain Makes You See This If You're About to Die

Ойын-сауық

Grappling with a near-death experience, you are calmed down when a kind soul decides to help you, aiding in your rescue. When the authorities arrive, you turn around to thank them, but there’s no one there. Sounds familiar?
The third man syndrome is actually a shared human experience, where an invisible entity is there for support and guidance in dire situations. So, why is this such a common theme? How did people experience it?
Let’s get into it!

I watched a story yesterday about a 6 year old girl who was lost in the wilderness. She said that a 4 year old girl had helped her stay safe for the 3 days it took to find her. She described what she looked like, her clothes and name. But no one was there. Crazy story

@supertom2316 yes. She was also last seen near 250 ft bluffs with a river below. When she was found, she was down following the river. Her "friend" had guided her to a safer way down and told her to follow it to a bridge where there was a gas station. Her "friend" helped her find berries (I think it was berries) and shelter. When she was found, she was 2 miles down river and a little dehydrated. The official search teams didn't look at the river and concentrated on the woods. It was 2 locals on mules who went down there and found her. This just happened in 2000 or 2001. Wild

So l had this happen as a child. I was actively drowning, and began to panic, as someone had pushed me in the deep end despite repeated warnings not to from my mother because I was a weak swimmer. It hurt the whole time, and I began to feel sleepy. Suddenly, I couldn’t see her, but I heard a friend of mine right in my ear, the way she had been when she was trying to teach me to swim. It’s been 21 years and it still sounds clear as a bell in my head. “Stop panicking. Open the book, tear it in half, throw it down. Kick kick kick. You’re almost there. Control your breathing when you surface so you don’t panic again.” I surfaced, the lifeguard blew the whistle, my mother snatched me out of the pool before he could get there. I kept telling her “Vicky helped me!” I have no relatives named Vicky. My friend Vicky moved away earlier that year, and I haven’t contacted her since. So if you ever went by the name Vicky, lived in Virginia Beach, and taught a girl named Erica to swim, thank you. You saved my life.

I think to make things more creepy is if the 3rd person was an 8 year old. And 10 years later you find someone that looks exactly like the kid, down to the age it's self. If the 3rd person realy was actually there with you, the kid should be 18 by now. They weren't even born yet when you first had the experience.

The subconscious can sort out information rapidly if needed, and has a strong desire to survive. It can even subdue the conscious mind, as with the window washer dangling from a rope at a high rise in Toronto who thought he was rescued in minutes. (I have experienced a similar loss of awareness during a life threatening situation). It doesn't surprise me that one could survive with two minds operating. Subconscious and conscious working with equal clarity. It would certainly feel as if another person was there. For all its faults, the brain is amazing.

Reminds me of the theory I heard of how some people can feel that someone or something is watching them or that they can tell something is wrong or a person is bad. The idea is that your senses are actually picking up on something your conscious brain is not. Like you glance behind you and while you don't think you see something, your eyes as well as the vision part of your brain register a figure within the tree line; causing you to feel like you are being watched and urging you to leave. Similarly the bad feeling you get around some people, the gut feeling, might be the fact that your senses are picking up that the person is not moving or talking in the normal, right way so it puts you on the defensive. Sadly some theorize that this also affect how you feel around people with mental issues as even if you know nothing is wrong with them the unconscious parts of your brain are registering them as a threat because they are moving or sounding appropriately.

I’ve seen takes on near death experiences that are incredibly insulting to anyone who’s actually been through them, so thank you for not trying to mock it or rationalize. It can be hard enough to share something like this when you know people will just say you’re crazy, or you imagined it. Thank you for not adding to that.

My granma told me about a time when her dad was travelling during winter. He had picked up a hitchhiker others had passed for a while. The man told my great grandpa that there was a dangerous driving situation ahead (he came from the direction grandpa was going). They stopped at a rest stop, where my grandpa said he'd drop the man off so he could have shelter, and when he went to thank the man for his warning, he had disappeared. He believed the man was an angel, trying to warn others of the danger ahead.

@ravent2631 This is a beautiful story/memory. I've got countless of my own with angels. I've learned that sometimes angels show themselves and other times they're invisible but will still protect/help. And I see dead people for a living. Recently a few years back I had the right of way at the crosswalk. It's around 10-11am and a beautiful day out. Cars are stopped and I'm walking, all of a sudden I randomly stop dead (like frozen in place, legs locked) in the middle of the crosswalk that's next to the turn lane. All of a sudden a police SUV flys through a red light, no sirens, nothing. The dude in the turn lane just looked at me in shock that I somehow Stopped walking Just in time to not be "wasted" by the SUV. But mostly I've had good memories of angels helping me in my 34 years of life so far. 😸🙏💞

Not sure if this counts, but when I was little I had some medical issues that required a series of painful surgeries. I was in and out of the hospital and I was in a body cast from age 18 months to 3 years old. Then just after my 3rd birthday my leg was amputated. From as far back as I could remember to about age 5 or 6 I had an imaginary friend (at least I think he was imaginary) called Uncle Nobody. My mother was an only child and my dad only had a sister. My only real uncle was Uncle Bob, my dad's sister's husband, so I don't have an uncle who is blood related. Or so I believed. Not very long before my grandmother passed, I was 13 or 14 when I was in the kitchen doing homework and half listening to my mother talking to her mother. My mother said that she always felt like she had a big brother. This sparked something in her and she started talking about something I don't she had mentioned in 40 years. Before my grandmother was pregnant with my mother she was pregnant with another baby, a boy. But the baby was stillborn. My grandmother finished, "We were expecting a baby, but nobody came. I have experienced this this 3rd person syndrome a few times in my life. I have no idea what it actually might be, but ever since I heard my grandmothers tell about her stillborn baby, to me that presence has a name. Uncle Nobody.

I’ve had an intense experience with this “third man syndrome” years ago in my college days. Heavy depression. Dark thoughts. She came to me in a dream. She was an Asian girl with long black hair and straight cut bangs, looked about 12 years old. She was wearing a bright white dress. Never seen anybody like her in my life. She embraced me and said, “everything is going to be alright.” The moment she touched me I felt engulfed in the warmth of 1000 suns all at once. Every sad thought I had vaporized. I don’t remember the exact words she said because I was so overwhelmed, but she said our souls are bonded forever and she is waiting for me, but now is not my time. She said she had to go and I’ll never forget when she turned around she had soft rays of light emanating from her upper back that distorted the air around them. Since that day not once have I felt depressed. If any of you ever have this “third man syndrome” ask them for a hug. As soon as they touch you it will be absolutely life changing.

When I was five, I had a very traumatic life and my brain developed another person to help me through it. I’m certain she would’ve been temporary like the ones in this video, had the trauma been temporary too. Eventually, she was joined by more people with each new trauma I/we went through. The proper name for my permanent helpers is called dissociative identity disorder, in which the brain creates another person/presence to get through a traumatic event, and that person/presence stays permanently following the event. It’s comforting to know that other people have helpers too, albeit for a short time.

When I was taken to safety I told my mom I pulled someone's leg and asked her whose leg it was. She said I was in the middle of the pool with no one near me. It does make sense if it happens in dire situations the make u prone to halucinate. Your brain starts to get confused and probably goes a bit insane so it generates an entity that helps you stay sane and guide you thru the situation. Its all knowledge u have but in the moment you are scared and shocked and cant think clearly so your brain sends you guidence in the way of the third person. Usually when people are afraid or in a very difficult prediciment, they more than likely wish there would be someone that would just tell them what to do even tho they might know the solution.

Happened to me when I was approx 11-12 yro. I felled in the lake at our summer cottage and the lake was pretty deep. I didn’t know at that moment what happened ( was panicking ) remember seeing green water and long vines coming from the ground to the lily pads above. Then I felt it. A push from below. I thought it was a nearby swimmer helping me, since I didn’t know how to swim. But it was a odd experience, since I felt like it was destiny to get out of the water, and that presence, that push from below. I can’t ever forget that

Then I felt someone push me back to shallow waters and was saved. The interesting thing is that there was no one around me that could've given me that safe nudge back to the shore. It was weird and I will never forget it.

He alone stayed up despite the temptation to sleep, and when he felt himself slipping, he woke them up. They'd only gotten five minutes of sleep, but he told them they had gotten a few hours worth. Not only that, people have mapped and cataloged the journey the captain and his men took to reach the whaling station, and have literally stated there was no possible way they should have been able to make that journey, even under more promising, and even modern, circumstances. They literally did the impossible. Wouldn't surprise me if the captain and crew had an angel on their side.

Hmmmm, since its your brain that is hallucinating this third person, and this third person gives you survival information or keeping you company, it would have to mean that this survival information is something you already know, or else you wouldn’t tell yourself something you wouldn’t know. Or if you are stuck under the snow and the third person is telling you ways to get out, this could be ideas your brain figured out on the spot. But at the same time, the part of your brain that deals with memory might also be triggered, producing an imaginary figure. This is obviously not the answer to this psychological phenomenon, but I have a feeling it’s just like how your brain works when you are dreaming. When dreaming, I can see a person who is my role model, but at the same time, this dream person is also speaking to me about “not giving up no matter how hard life gets”. But how does my brain produce the right person that correctly goes with whatever phrases they are telling me in my dreams? Imagine if I have that dream, but while I am awake.

Well I'm no expert but I think our brain just keep a record of what words, sounds, images, feeling etc from our life, make us feel comfortable even though we don't realise it. And during critical moments , the brain creates and shows "information" by matching 'which piece of information can make you comfortable ' and that leading to the creation of the "right person". Again this is just my hypothesis.

@@2painful2watch there is no actual creation here, we are still hallucinating."if you don't know the answer?" Yeah, I guess you haven't had any experiences where you just automatically remember something from the past even if you are not aware of it. First of all "WE(our conscious self)" ourselves isn't the brain.(I'm not saying "we are spiritual beings" bs). The "WE" here is something our brain made from life experiences(also includes genetics). Our brain is just like a processor. And the brain itself have majority of the control over our body (what ppl refer as subconsciousness). You may have experienced some situations where you wanted to make a decision, but couldn't. This still doesn't explain this phenomenon because, as you said there are many other factors to consider.

This sort of reminds me of an incident that happened to my neice when she was only about 9 years old or so. Her mother, an infamously bad driver, misjudged the speed of an oncoming car as as attempted to cross his lane she was struck at high speed broadside. She and her daughter were both thrown from the vehicle. Her other slightly younger daughter, who was also in the car was uninjured. My sister only suffered minor cuts that required sutures to close. But the other daughter describes how, as the accident is in progress, she was lifted by, what she described as an angel, held up and carried her to her mother and gently laid her on her chest. Which, by the way was actually where she did end up, completely unharmed. 3 ladies who amazingly escaped death or serious injuries, is an unbelievable gift. I am unconvinced she was literally carried by an angel, but not positive, because her youngest brother by many year used to always smile and wave at any vent he came across. Such as the large return air vents on the wall or ceilings and heating registers on the floor. He was quite young. Barely a year old so unable to speak yet, but the creepiest part was that his father had died only a few months before this began. It was very unnerving. It scared his sister, the one who saw the angel, so badly, she nearly dropped him. I have also seen and experienced things that I do not understand and cannot seem to explain. However, I believe that our concept of an angels appearance is not completely accurate. But more like an artists rendition which was adopted over time as what we believe is genuine. Similar to our christian portraits of Jesus. As far as I am aware, there are no accurate real life representations of this man. So we create what we want to see. This said, and knowing the images we see of angels most likely to be hugely inaccurate, I believe most of these sightings under trauma are from our own subconscience. A way to ease the stress in life threatening situations. Similar to how some cannot remember their traumatic experiences. Just an automatic coping mechanism created by our own mind, showing us familiar images as a way to do this.

The first night I slept at this apartment I swear I saw a shadow walking in the room. And then some months later, i was peeling some onions and I felt its presence but very very strongly and, feeling uncomfortable, stepped to the side. When I did this, a thing from the roof felt on the ground where I was. I was not in a life threatening situation, I was not feeling depressed (i think) and this thing kinda saved me. It might be a spirit of your old relative or your spirit team. When my grandma died I always felt that something was in the car with me, my mom and my sister were all spiritual and know these things and I even saw them. My mother told me they were here to heal us and help us recover. And when my mom drove alone from the city her mother died in she we were worried something might happen since she was still in the shock state but my mom said she knew she could make it safely because she knew something was with her and that’s also why she didn’t want us to go get her.

I'm not sure should I share this or not? I'm Buddhist. Normally my hobby is to compare science and religion but I do only on my religion (Buddhist). I'm not believe about miracle much however .. One day a little angel? asked me to do research on Quantum theory with the sacrificing of Jesus and compare this to both Bible and Quran as well? Why's me? I'm Buddhist!! Well , Even myself won't believe that as well to see her like this? However I have something interesting to conclusion as my theory.... Is it possible that ... both Bible and Quran tell the right story about sacrificing of Jesus but in different time-line? [There are quantum theories show that every matters can be also waves which could be interfered each other in the specific period of time , There are also ambiguous logic which in the middle between truth and false as well , And super position theory which the quantum matter can be appear more than one position at the same time!!! ] This is some kind of changing the event in parallel dimensions in the past which will affect the present. From [Genesis 11:8-9] Do GOD has some kind of power to change the past? This quite clearly refer to paradox incident!! Is it possible that, the angels were try to help Jesus by changing the past in parallel timeline? which cause paradox incident. Umm.. I won't to go detailed on my theories at this time..... I just only want to know about the angel who is being friend with me . However I wonder , Is her just my hallucinations or dream? It's quite hard to interpret her words. Most come with pop up songs , There is another reason that why I won't believe in myself much ,Most of angel's name suffix of Abraham's religions should end with el. But she seems to prefer me to call her Nahida (which should be from a Pali or Sanskrit word). Her appearance come with a white robe teaching about wisdom her age is around 12-14. I'm not sure. At first I won't dare to talk about 'Nahida' much (I just know her name when I nearly 40). After I saw many people experience something similar to me. So it seems to be normal to talk about what my experience is. Hope to share about imagination friend with you. I'm not sure to say this is my first time to see her(at age 39-40). It seems I experienced something like this a few when I was young but not clearly like today. I saw someone sit near my bed with a white robe when I was a kid. And during drowning someone gave me a hand pulled me out from under boat.

I guess this has happened to me. I won't go into story details but I was basically rescued from a situation by my aunt when I was a child. I was in the back seat and she was driving. Years later I remember asking her who the two people were who were sitting in the back seat with me. One of them was holding me and telling me I would be okay and that I would forget what had happened that night. My aunt said there was no one in the car, it was just me and her.

Maybe this could also happen during hard mental moments? Or lonelyness? I recall missing my best friend of 12 years, crying out for her for 2 long years following those 12 mentioned earlier. I saw her then come into my room, holding my hand and pulling me close, comforting me. I even felt it. After those years, it started happening less, I was moving on. But I saw and heard her cheer me on from the sidelines, on every step of my journey. She hugged me and took care of me in the hard moments. But now that I'm breaking down less, and get more friends to support me, I see her less and less. I hope she's well...

7:44 is it possible that, in these scenarios where it isn’t a physically life-threatening, the person is aware that the third man isn’t real? Like, they know they are imagining it, but it still feels like they’re talking to someone else? Like, an imaginary sibling/friend?

I have had this happen to me during a time of great depression. It ended up being a spirit who kept telling me to hold on, and that we'd make it through this together. Later after the depression had gone, I realized that I had fallen in love with her, but she was only allowed to stay if I needed her help. I begged her to stay, and she did for a few days, but one day I woke up and she was gone. I was later told by someone that she was a Spirit Guide, a spirit who's job is to act as emotional support and a guide through difficult times. I still love her, and hope to be with her in Heaven.

That’s incredible! I’ve had the exact same situation happen to me! I had crippling depression and dark thoughts and this 12 year old Asian girl I’ve never seen before came to me in a dream and said “Everything is going to be alright.” And she hugged me. The moment she hugged me I felt like I felt like the warm light of 1000 suns pass through me, vaporizing my depression in an instant. I felt at the moment she touched me our souls had always been bonded my whole life. I was instantly infatuated with this higher being. From what you’re saying maybe now I know why I just can’t seem to get her to come back. I haven’t been depressed since the day she hugged me in my dream all those years ago.

@@Arc_Viper I'm glad to hear that I'm not alone in my experiences, but I wouldn't wish for anyone in the world to go through what I've been through, with the whole falling in love with a spirit, but still not able to be with that spirit even 7 or so years later. At least the love I have for her is deep enough to allow me to wait years and years to be back with her. I just hope that when I finally get to meet her again, that she'll still love me, and want to be with me.
