When they say “Service guarantees citizenship”, they don’t mean military service exclusively. That’s just the easiest and simplest way (relatively speaking, of course). If you aren’t able to serve in any of the branches of the military the government will find a job that you can do.

This to me is a clear sign both sides were underestimating each other. The main difference being that the Arachnids obviously assumed humans were as collectivist as them.

@@ccompson2 The propaganda is thinking the rock was propaganda. The Arachnids very, very much thought we were collectivists like them and that the attack would make us give them space. Human mindset is individualist, for the most part, so we went to war. What was-to them-a gentle nudge against war turned out to be an egregious act of brutality to humans and their (to the Bugs) bizarre value for every human life.

It's actually debatable whether or not the astroid that destroyed Buenos Aires was even the bugs at all or just something to further the earth gov agenda and that's ones of the reasons I love starship troopers

I'm positive the bugs didnt plan the airship attack, it was a pure numbers game. Randomly shooting in the air in such mass would almost certainly do that type of damage. And the meteor that was sent to Bueno Aries "wasnt" the bugs, it was Carmen's change off course that did it. They barley missed the meteor, brushing it knocking off their communication tower so they couldnt warn Earth. It only came from that area.

The Arachnids didn't plan the anti ship fire, they got lucky that their nature of being underground and low profile threw off Federation Intel of how much plasma they had on the planet. That's why the Cpt. is mad in that scene, cause Intel got it wrong and the bugs had much more plasma than they thought. You're right about the asteroid not being the bugs though, and I would even argue that Carmen caused the asteroid to hit Earth. Not because they couldn't warn Earth, but because they actually hit the asteroid, changing it's course just enough to then hit Earth. The Federation being the Federation though wasn't going to let such a tragedy go to waste, so they blamed the bugs, planted a few Arachnid corpses here and there; and voila! People signing up in droves to be sent to a meat grinder, and a large portion of wealthy non citizens the Federation no longer has to worry about, that Asteroid was an all around win for the Federation.

The fact that the ship didn't turn around and light speed jump to Earth or forward to some satellite or deep space com's base to message Earth is also a problem. And yeah the Bugs showed Extremely high intelligence in being able to manipulate debris like an asteroid to slingshot it around a planet from their region of space in order to aim at Earth. But other ships and again Satellites should've picked up on it's movement days on days ahead of time and preparing countermeasures in the mean time. It's basically just for plot to show how much the UCF underestimated them and got hit back hard as a response. Not that they were likely a Peaceful race. But humanity absolutely struck first. And the fact that Carmen's ship she piloted didn't have a backup com network or relay to draw on I'd also a major failure of engineering. It's one of the reasons why I do like Star Trek because they have tertiary back ups for stuff like that. And if the 3rd level systems short our that's when it's time to start getting Extra creative or praying 😅🤷🏾‍♂️😂🙏🏾😭. This is also the same society that flew in dumb close with their frigates to land their ships instead of tryna aim for a different region of the planet presumably less populated by the bugs like an island chain or something to set up a base camp and front line. Instead the Infantry soldiers were scattered all around to different battlefields and the navy was getting blown out of the sky because someone said the bug's firing style was random. To which it's always been my theory that whoever put out that was either infiltrated psychically or being possessed via needle tube to the head by a Brain Bug 🤔. Like the General telling the Roughnecks that one of his men gave out a BS order saying Planet P was clear.

Theres currently a new game that was released last year on steam as early access title, it is called Starship Troopers Extermination It is a 16 players, coop horde pve FPS game as someone who has been playing since its early access launch, the game is still on development and bringing new content before set to fully launch on 1.0 version sometime later this year, I highly reccomend if you enjoy the franchise and also coop games

There is a fun theory that Carmen cause Benuos Aries to blow up when she runs into the asteroid after she convinced the other pilot that her route was better. The theory go's Carmen accidentally hit the asteroid with a ship, then it knocked off the trajectory to make it go towards earth. After the asteroid hit they just blamed it on the bugs for propaganda

So the asteroid thing happens in the book too, but they establish that the Bugs know how to utilize the Wormhole just as well as the humans. I think it's one of the few things Verhoven kept

Love that movie

This is my favorite fucking movie of all time im so happy that more people are bringing attention to it. I have one descrepancy though: the bugs didn't send that Asterioid, that was military propaganda. The planet Klendathu is 200,000 light years away and the bugs don't have a warp drive like the human do. That Asterioid would have had to have been sent eons ago, but the bugs wouldn't have even know humans were out there. The asteroid that hit Carmen's ship came from the same direction, sure, but not *FROM* Klendathu. Don't get me wrong, the bugs are definitely fully capable of making the necessary calculations and producing the power needed to do it. They *didn't* do it though

Starship Troopers is like the opposite of Star Trek. Humans are (actual) fascists and immediately go to war with the first alien race they encounter. It’s been awhile, but, in addition, didn’t the Earth government or military frame the bugs? I’m pretty sure.

same reason as why you can't bomb anything in wars. value and result. If your colony you dont want to sacrifice the whole planet or want a FOB maybe later strategic value like mineral (cost value) and for result bugs are underground and they do everything there so unless you crack the planet you get no result just waste of industrial capacity. And if you add the source (the book) bugs arent stupid -they build space ships, colonize, etc- so probably they have AA (or AA space counterpart) and spaceships that can defend them from orbital bombarment or just go with the movie parody which is where they make a stupid training montage and send this "elit" troops with a gun against numbers so no bombardments. I would say modern military would have chance against the movie bugs if no space force calculated and numbers are similar and we would die if the book bugs arrive even with much less number

they have air support and advanced weaponry but the movie (90s) doesn't show this because the movie is trying to display the ridiculous nature of the government's military response to a threat (throwing people into a literal and metaphorical meatgrinder)

Please do a sin counter for "The hills have eyes"! I really liked how the protagonist weren't taking shit from the mutants, fighting their way and laying traps through the movie! Then do the horrible sequel were it's actual "marines" that are probably as brain dead as a rotten snail

There is a theory that the Arachnids are multiple species of insecticide that have a hive mind, out of curiosity I began to play Empires of the Undergrowth to see how a ant colony works, seeing that the insects are one of the most prominent species on our planet, with high reproduction rate, if the insect and arachnids developed lungs that increase their sizes we would be extinct, because it not a matter of time how much they would evolve, but the amount of generations before they become a treat.

These, I think. Because iirc a xenomorph's form is determined by the host, and these are a lot more adaptable

@@NerdAlert42Xenomorphs are just an alien bio weapon which has the potential to destroy an entire planet via infestation but I’m pretty sure without a constant supply of hosts the xenomorphs eventually die out after having killed everything, leaving the engineers to just walk in and take whatever they shot the xenomorph missile at. Compared to the arachnids which are an actual independent race/races of bugs with its own free will and ambitions. Basically xenomorphs are a weapons and the bugs are a civilization. Imagine a xenomorph civilization tho 😳

It honestly sucks that no one takes time to read the book and learn about the OG arachnids. They’re so much better and actually advanced.

The ttrpg says the bugs set up on Pluto. They had some sort of transport bug. I'm sure it's not canon but I'd add a possible transport bug to their arsenal.
