If you're new to my channel and videos, hi! I'm Evan Edinger, and I make weekly "comedy" videos every Sunday evening. As a woman with short hair, I agree that long hair can be more of a hassle than it is worth. My husband and I gave each other buzz cuts during the lock downs and they were so freeing! I don't think I'll ever have long hair again. PS- your blue eyes really POP with the shorter hair!

My hair (I'm female, by the way) is around the level of my shoulder blades. I couldn't imagine it being any shorter; it's always been my ambition to grow it long enough to sit on, but it doesn't grow all that fast and at nearly 70 years old I probably won't live to see it..! But hey, I can dream 💇♀

@@TestGearJunkie.Mines close to my hips and I'm pretty sure it's not going to get much longer, even though I'd like it to be. It's just too damaged, I think. I also couldn't imagine my hair shorter than just below my shoulders. When I was 8, I had a bob (my choice at the time, I thought it was a good idea) and hated it within a few days and since then, have refused to even consider getting my hair cut to above my shoulders. I have been tempted to cut it to just below shoulder length to see if I can get it in better condition, but haven't decided to do it yet. I am in my early 20s, so it should have a decent amount of time to grow if I do it.

I had my hair down to my knees (I'm male), and yeah, sometimes it would catch onto things, or I'd accidentally stand on it when getting up off the ground, not to mention I'd have to wrap it around my neck or something when going to the bathroom, but besides loving the way it looks, I loved that it was a style unto itself, so I didn't need to use product or spend time styling it every morning. It's around butt-length now - I had it cut to clean up the ends, and it never grew back. 😭

"Strategy" 🤔 nawh, modern humans, that live in modern ways(hectic & exhaustin', barely time te rest), jus' firgot how te low maintenance care fir hair. Pleats(a single or twin pleats/braids should be treated genderless & aw ages stylin'), hair care products minus fossil fuel derived ingredients(ma hair got less oily, as quickly, so went fae a daily wash te a weekly), cover heid/hair te keep dirt oot/aff it, boar bristle brushes(helps distribute natural & clean oils doon the hairshaft, aye, shaft,,,mind oot the gutter)& those beard combs(basically vikin' combs)help(i find plastic combs & brushes areny the greatest hing, they're better fir shorter length long-ish hair, I find). Either way, long hair is a personal choice. Dae whitever is comfiest. Personally, i prefer long hair 😹 it's like an auld pal. This year, sleepin' is better wi' a silk nightcap & silk pillowslip(but, wi' cotton underside, so it doesny skyte aboot). Mibbe soonds fancy, but, it jus' reduces friction & stuff. Modern fashion is usually detrimental, as it always wants long hair te be loose, an' that's nae guid. Pleats/braids exist in every culture in humanity, as far as i'm aware. It shouldny be limited te wee girls, like the media usually pushes(which, is gender stereotype't & well, possibly racist) It seems men that grow long hair, I've noticed, go through phases of gettin' it really long, gettin' frustrated by it aw, complainin' aboot it, loppin' it aff, regrowin' it, like Groundhog Day 😹 sometimes i hink wimmin keep long hair, usually cause gender stereotypes & usually sharin' info/knowledge mair.

I have the same with the long hair being so normal, whenever I cut it shorter I don't really feel like myself & I haven't the foggiest about what to do _with_ my hair. That's why the title of this video kinda bugs me... why does it say that you *_shouldn't_* grow your hair long... that's personal 😅
My hair was 3ft long in 2018 when I cut it all the way off and shaved my head to raise money for cancer research. Now I really can't imagine having it that long again 😅
You seriously pull it off at all lengths; and I'd be lying if I said i wasn't a tad envious 😂 It was satisfying seeing all of the sections being chopped off though. There's someone out there who will love and appreciate your hair donation so much ❤
I used to have long hair as a guy and got it chopped off in the last year, this could be a really interesting look at it from another perspective
I like the look of long hair but absolutely hate having long hair myself. It really is a sensory nightmare.
Daily management - so much easier than long hair. But you will have to go to the barbers/hairdressers every 5-6 weeks to kerp it stylish when it's short.

maybe start with mid-lenght and work your way upwards to where you feel satisfied
Since Ive grown my hair out almost as long as yours, its really desensitized me to getting hair in my mouth, especially while eating. It used to ruin a meal for me. Now its whatever, as long as its mine. Which is easy to tell because 95% of the time its still attached to my head.
When I had long hair (beyond shoulder length) I used to feel deeply unhappy when having to tie it back into a ponytail to get it out of the way, only for it to feel like my front hair was being torn out. After getting rid of it, it was so nice not to have the feeling of extra weight on my head (which I was unaware of until it was gone), not to mention no longer finding hair everywhere - like in food at home. I used to go to a great barber in Cheltenham who did a combined haircut, hot towel shave, ear/nose burning and scalp/shoulder massage with a choice of single malts - tragically did not survive the lockdown.

New hair looks fabulous!
Looking good, Evan!
I was super sad of the idea of you cutting your hair but gotdamn u look so handsome with the new cut i cant be too sad 😂 ❤ 😅
I (M) used to have long hair (A bit longer than yours, but not as thick) and I cut it off for my, at the time, partner (I was thinking about cutting it but wasn't 100% on doing it, so it's not that she made/convinced me to cut my hair) and I regretted it shortly after and ever since. My hair now doesn't grow very long and it's really REALLY thin on top so I just shave it every week or so. but cutting my hair was the thing I regret the most, I miss it so much. But I'm glad you enjoy your short hair, you do look (and sound) like you are happier with it short.
So interesting to watch this from the male perspective! Especially as the length you started with is almost how long I want mine to be after I cut off 12 inches 😂I had a 'big chop' in 2021 where I also chopped off 12 inches, and can super relate to that feeling of having a literal weight off your head. (and the subconscious movements afterwards where you're trying to move the ghost hair!) Since then, I've accidentally grown it out to waist-length again, so due for another big chop soon to get it to shoulder-blade length (and hopefully before it gets so long I can wipe my butt with my hair...). And thanks for the reminder at the end to make sure I ACTUALLY go the post office this time to donate, instead of misplacing the hair while moving house :')
Great haircut! ❤😍 Your capture of this beautiful area was lovely. 💖

Great move with the Charity Donation, good man. Hubnut on YT did the same a few years ago. After you had it cut your London Gezzer accent got stronger. Had long hair years ago, had enough one day, got the clippers and down to the bone. Was a good feeling until I went back to work felling trees the next day and had to put my stinky cold hard hat on. The next ten years down to the bone every month. Now it's once a year.
Very Smart! (Your stylist is great for dealing with your adorable fidgeting 😍)
about half a year ago I cut my hair to chin length after 5 years of not cutting it. I was nervous about it even though my hair had been short before but really it just felt so freeing. I hated brushing it when it was so long and oddly enough I got more compliments on it when it was short. When it was long there was a lot of "omg your hair is so pretty and long" but when it was short the compliments seemed to be more about my hair suiting me rather than just about how long it was
lol he naturally knew that it would be a little girl (Suzie) getting his hair 🤣

I watched your 10 year anniversary video, and wasn't sure where to find this, but it popped up. Loved both videos - and all the other contewnt of youyrsa I've come across.
I've been growing my hair since the 90's, for as long as I've been allowed to decide. When I was still a kid my parents didn't let me grow it really long, any time it grew over my shoulders it was time for a cut, and I had a fringe too. I was probably 14 when I grew the horrible fringe out, and 15 when I've last had my hair cut by anyone. So 25 years ago. Even the thought of having any hairdresser touch my hair makes me anxious, it's worse than going to the dentist 😂 My hair's pretty much always plaited though, so it stays off my face, doesn't pull my scalp, doesn't get tangled, and I only need to open and brush it just before a hairwash. Very easy, no plans to cut it anytime soon.
Looks great!

Ohh great video! Glad you got to donate, it's a great experience :) I've been fortunate to do it twice in my life (first as a teenager and a few years back after having my first baby). Hoping I'm lucky enough to donate again soon! Tips for those thinking about donating - if you are pregnant or very recently postpartum, your hair is extra full from shedding less for 9 months so it's an especially great time to donate as it is a little thicker than usual!

Well done on donating your hair, Evan! It's a very generous thing to do and a great gift for a sick child. And your new 'do looks great on you. How will hair make the child not to be sick anymore?
@jeanproctor3663

@@TedEhioghae It doesn't stop the child from being sick but as a lot of chemo treatments cause hair thinning/loss, donated hair can be made into a wig, therefore helping a child to not feel as bad at having little or no hair. It gives the illusion that they still do have hair. Not everyone wants the world to know they have a naked or near-naked scalp.

It is absolutely a sensory nightmare and sometimes keeps me up at night trying to get it out of my face and not being pulled on. Men look better with long hair.
I got a "free" haircut one afternoon in Glasgow. We were scheduled to fly to Spain around 5pm, and started the haircut at noon. We just made the flight :)
I never really thought of long hair as a sensory nightmare, but now that I think of it... But for me, short hair is even worse of a sensory nightmare because I can never get it tied up and off my skin. My mom loves short hair and I grew up with a boyish haircut, I was only allowed to grow my hair at 12 and I never went back. She keeps pressuring me to cut it (I usually don't get away with it for more than a year) so we converge to a shorter length usually. But it bothers me so much before it's long enough to not fall forward or to stay in the ponytail...
11:55 - it's a zebra crossing, I must admit as a driver of 15 years I miss them all the time - maybe the shields are so that drivers see the lights better and can respond if someone wants to cross?
It is interesting to hear about things from the other side, of having too much hair. I have had for a while, parts of my head where I have bald patches and it causes me anxiety. I have been thinking recently to embrace it, rather then the fear control.
It looks fab. Much better. 😊
I wish i had known I could donate it when I got mine cut. I lost 36" of hair that day. All my co-workers came to see me with short hair, and they were amazed that it was that long, because it curls, a lot

If you want to help out there is always the possibility of donating (hair or money) or assisting with publicity etc at any moment from this breath to the end of time. Never too late.
Good choice putting this on your main channel, and nice hair, feel like you look much more like your age now in a good way
I was born and brought up about 1/2 a mile from Chiswick high street (Acton Green) and looking at your video it just reminds me of how much the area has changed since I lived there in the 60's and 70's. I know the public toilets on the green you were on have been closed for donkey's years, but when I was a kid, what is now Sainsburys, used to be the Whitbread brewery. I take it the John Bull is still there opposite Gunnersbury station?
More than any other opinion I may have, I’m just glad you seem to like the new haircut. I wish I had enough active hair follicles to have anything more than a buzz cut.
I dislike that hair-in-the-face stuff as well, so I keep it longer than my elbows so it cannot really flop forward because it has to overcome so much. But when I cut it shorter, I certainly notice it. For the hoover "problem" I just have a "pet hair" rake/brush for the carpet to get most of it off and then it is okay. Still have to clean the wheel many times a year, but at least it is not per instance.

For me the cleaning is worth the hassle cuz for me at least the short hair is a maintenance problem cuz of styling it to look decent
You had a glow up!! 👐🏻

Jolly good show!
I think it looks great either way! I grew up with long, curly hair that took forever to wash and brush. I cut it short during the pandemic and now it is sooo much easier to handle (and no longer curly!).
Love the haircut! Quite handsome.
You look good man. You can totally get the Essex hair next time (for the Essex experience) 👍
Looks so much better with long hair! I went through a period of really long hair and getting it cut short was the best decision I made
Random people coming up to you, and talking to you about your physical features . I feel like this something women experience all the time - I'm glad you talked about how weird that experience is!
I got a haircut in August for a very similar reason to you! I’d had a haircut 2021, but it was just a trim because it was down to my elbows and I was getting annoyed at it. Then in August 2023 I donated it to The Little Princess Trust. However, I was interested to see that your barber cut your hair above your ear! Mine was cut off at my chin. It’s curious to see what counts as a short hair haircut for women as opposed for men.
Your new hair looks good! I have one burning question, did the barber actually wax your nose hair?! And used the wax as a pore strip?
I chopped off my hair during covid but i found everything but the buzzcut more challenging than long hair. Now im back at long hair and i really enjoy being able to put it in a ponytail or bun and just having it out of my face as opposed to the short hair. I also dont have to wash it as often (although that was very quick with the short hair but i have an easily irritated scalp) and only cut it once a year. So i find this completely opposite opinion quite funny
You posted this and I was today gonna go get my (much shorter than yours but still kinda long for my standards) hair but I just couldn't be bothered to get outta bed in time 😂
Love the hair! I have a question, how did you meet Heather? What does Heather do professionally? How long have you been together? Is she thinking of getting her hair cut? Take care ! 😊
So cool that you could donate the hair!
Long hair or short hair you are just awesome... and you look like you...wonderful to see Heather in the video..
Love your short hair! It really suits you
I think your new haircut is handsome. I'm reading a biography of John James Audobon (the bird artist), and he was quite proud of his long hair (curvelure, they called it--based on French, I'd guess).
I understand the sensory overload. As soon as I cut my long hair it was such a relief.
I loved having long hair for a bit and I loved going back to short hair afterward. It's a great thing to do for a while.
A few months ago my barber moved out of town. So out of laziness and curiosity I decided to let my hair grow. Funny enough I currently have the same haircut as you.
Well done Evan and not having quick regrets. I think it looked a good cut. I did similar growing my hair as a student so we could dance to Metal music. Then at uni decided it wasn’t all that and cut it off and gave it to my gran who was very happy. Not that she said I couldn’t grow my hair but did think I looked better short 😂
The way my hair would’ve been just one of those ponytails😭
Love your puns, Evan. Mist mwha ha ha ha.
Love the hairstyle, suits you😊
Interesting to hear your thoughts. It’s definitely weird to think about why either long hair or short hair feels more “you.” Whether that’s a gender expression thing or how people perceive you or just the sensory stuff… I also have very thick hair that I know looks lovely when it’s long , and sometimes I think about growing it out again. But I grew up with it like that and always dreamed of cutting it. When I finally did, I donated 17 inches! Briefly during the pandemic I started letting it go, but then I got fed up after about 6 months and learned to cut it myself. I still do!
I have hair about as long as yours, and I sympathize completely. Because mine is thinning I am slowly sneaking up on the idea of a full shave, but being of the late hippy generation, I've had long hair most of my life, so I would definitely miss it.
