Hi everyone, welcome back to our channel. Today we’ll be talking about why you should be using a power broom on your artificial turf area.
Now that you have invested in synthetic grass for your specific area, you probably want to know how you can keep your grass looking as perfect as it did on the day it was installed. That’s where a power broom comes in.
Artificial Turf Lasts Longer
Artificial turf takes very little maintenance, but keeping it in top condition can prolong its life. Using a power broom will allow you to get years of enjoyment and an even better return on your investment.
Like natural grass, synthetic grass areas usually have a lot of traffic and can flatten over time. This will cause the infill to be compacted and impacted. The purpose of the infill is to keep the synthetic grass seperated and perked up, but in high traffic areas it tends to get compacted and the blades cannot perform properly. This makes your artificial turf look worn and matted. A power broom will separate the blades and restore the bounce and natural look of you synthetic grass.
A Power Broom Can Do More Than a Manual Broom
Because a power broom is motorized, it can dig deeper without damaging your synthetic grass. It makes an ideal tool for maintaining the longevity and quality of your artificial grass.
A power broom looks like a rototiller with large brush wheel. The brush can spin more than 200x per minute. As it moves over your artificial turf, its long bristles remove debris on the surface, restores the blades to their upright position, and help restore the integrity of the artificial lawn infill. Using this tool, every few months can prolong the life and quality of your artificial turf.
Protect Your Investment
Replacing your natural grass with artificial turf is an investment in your home’s appearance, livability and future value. US Turf’s high quality artificial grass is meant to last for decades with hardly any maintenance. By using a power broom on your synthetic grass periodically, you’ll keep your grass in top condition and looking great.

This is such a vital step and one that homeowners seem to ignore, thanks for the video guys! Under what circumstances would you recommend topping-up sand infill in conjunction with brooming?

Great question! At US Turf, we check the infill levels every time we perform a power broom service. Sand infill is typically good for 8-10 years with no need to add more. If you have ZeoLite or EnviroFill for pet areas, infill may need to be topped off in 5 years depending on the amount of use. If you have a specific question in regards to your project please feel free to contact us at the office any time.

My turf is 5 yrs old and matted in high travel areas. Will power broom take care of this or do I need to add sand too? Is sand same as “infill”?

Hi, in your video you can see a lot of small white stones/debris being picked up and then thrown over back onto the grass. We have a 50mm pile - does it matter if these stones are flinged back (and then sit at the bottom) or should we also invest in a power broom that also has a collection box?

It is totally fine that they settle at the bottom of the turf pile. This is infill and it is designed to be in the turf! I wouldn't worry about using anything with a collection box. Hope this helps!

My artificial turf is very dusty, we walk and you can see the dust coming up... we had a very dusty wind season this year 🥴 is there any advise you could give me? If I use the power brush, how do I get rid of the dust that would come out? I have been looking for one with a box included but the only ones I found have a bag, nothing with a box and I feel the bag won’t really keep the dust inside.. I will appreciate any recommendations, Now with the quarantine and my kids home, we really need a clean backyard.. 🙌🏽

Hi Jessica, Have you seen improvement after the recent rains? Generally we see the infill compact and create less dust after a few heavy rains. Please do let us know.

I have shedding on my turf. Will power brooming remove it?

  • @usturf

    @usturf

Hi Marlene, Power brooming can help get it into one location so it can easily be picked up. The power broom itself does not pick anything up. I would use a dust pan and small broom or rake to then pick up the debris

Hi Gavin! Probably not. We recommend a weed killer and pulling weeds occasionally. This is common and part of the minimal maintenance artificial turf requires. Thanks for the question!

That is a great question. I think it would help get it off as the bristles are very tough and create a lot of heat and friction when operating. We have not tried this.
