Previously I have done a video for people who want to start drawing, but with a lot of new subscribers from experimental videos I wanted to introduce people uninterested in drawing to why they should start drawing.
This video reiterates a few things from previous videos,, but in a perspective for someone who has little knowledge about drawing or art.

‘Natural Talent’ or a biological advantage, can help, but it probably won’t be that noticeable, and developed natural learning abilities would likely be more noticeable and make a much larger impact. Just like he said in the video The more you learn the better you get at learning more. This is especially good when you’re young when brain is growing, so your trained learning capabilities will improve faster because instead of your brain changing to it, your brain develops into it, making permanent solid improvements to your learning capabilities. Then as an adult you will be able to pick up new skills easily, almost as if you were still a kid because of your learning experience as a kid.

A pointer for beginners: you will always think your art is disappointing. I’ve been drawing for years, but lately I’m trying to improve on the basics. Anyhow, no matter how good you get at art you will always think yours is bad. Just remember how much you’ve improved since the beginning. Look back at your old art and see how much you’ve grown. That’s what matters. That you’re trying, and it’s working. Keep going, and you can only get better!

I mean, every once in a while you might have a breakthrough and produce something you're legit happy with. It's rare but it can happen. I had that happen to me last week; I was at a rather informal gathering and for much of it I just sat in the corner drawing... Didn't really have any real plans ahead of time for what I wanted to draw... At the end of the day I had reached a point in said drawing where I just thought "You know, I really think I did good on this one. I actually want to show this off to people." And so I did. And the other people in the room seemed to be genuinely impressed. So that was a good feeling. One that I don't expect I'll be experiencing terribly often.

To go along with this tip, make sure to save or preserve ALL of your work. Scan it, put it in a binder or a box or whatever. That way in a in a month or a year or even 10 years, you can go and look back at how far you have come. The worst part of learning an art is that it takes a lot of time and often is learned in small steps. That makes it feel like you aren't growing or achieving anything, but by having a reminder of where you were and comparing it to where you are helps show your growth, and it shows where you could grow more.

I love all my paintings and drawings, they are things that didn't exist before I made them happen! They don't often turn out as envisioned, and sometimes I'm embarrassed as soon as anyone looks at them, especially educated artists who judge as good or bad according to technical skills. It's worth pondering if this is because we are all aware of the works of geniuses and compare ours to theirs? Everything that comes from a love of creation is good.

don't be. You are at the right age to do it. I pick up to draw back again when I'm 23 after years of abandonment due to studies+college. Now im working as a storyboarder. Nothing is too late. Look at Bush n Jim Carrey, started around 50s i guess. And I'm super jealous of their skills. Everyone express wonderfully unique. Thus so will you. :)

You will probably quit. Almost everyone quits at some point. I've quit more times than I can count. What's important is coming back. Even if you only draw for 2 months and quit for 2 years, come back to it. You will regret it for the rest of your life if you don't come back, and the moment you start again you will feel not only a weight lifted off your shoulders, but probably also much more joy than you remember ever feeling while drawing. You will also most likely be better than you ever were. I've been drawing on and off for 15 years, and it's always worth coming back to, as is anything you want to do.

I used to know someone who was a "natural" at drawing since she was super young. I noticed that, as time went on, she never changed her art style, and never felt like she needed to move on to different ones. I think she was afraid of the thing new artists are afraid of: being bad, so she never tried to move on and do something new and different.

I was that kid who always envied people who could draw well (my friends were AMAZING) but never made myself learn...until 9 months ago. I did my first drawing without references and simply used the image I had in my mind. While the end result wasn’t bad, I knew I could do better. And so I began my art journey, studying everything from human anatomy to color theory and perspective. I did traditional art for a few months before transitioning to digital. Now I draw digitally almost exclusively

Before this I wouldn't have said that I'm afraid to start drawing. And if I end up being even medium-good at it, it would be amazing because I've spent years conditioning myself that I can't draw. And it's not just me, even art teachers when I was small used to tell me my drawing was bad. I mean I was just a 5 year old trying to draw some umbrellas and teddy bears

Beautiful video! This is exactly why I love art so much and learning about new things. After I started photographing and learning more about it, I feel like I have a whole new perspective on life. Even when I don't have my camera with me I notice the colors, the lights and the shadows and little details that I wouldn't notice before and everything just becomes more beautiful. This also applies to of course, drawing, cooking, reading or even just learning about other artists. It's truly a shame a lot of adults don't feel like learning anything that won't bring a clear benefit to their life. Once you learn more about things and the process behind it, they have a whole new meaning and you just appreciate life a little more.

hi i am 15,5 and if you get better you will find out the stuff that other people in your age make is beginner stuff. And i will give you some tips first dont be sceared of making misstakes it is importent to make misstakes becaus by doing them you will see your misstakes and can fix them. A other thinge is draw every day if you want to get rly good at it if you dont feel like it draw It is very importent to be consistent. And dont watch tutorials if you dont execute them after. the last one you feel insperatet right now so you have the feeling you want to do smth but truest be this feeling will go away and you nead to be able to motivate yourself to do art. For animators you nead to learn drawing too. Sry bad enhlish i am not a native speaker

You have the best kind of motivational videos. Oddly enough because they're _not_ the usual kind. The one that aims to invoke emotions with pompous yet vapid big words, which will quickly wear off like an inflated baloon. Instead you have a grumpy, yet unadulterated matter-of-fact approach. It doesn't embellish anything - in fact you'll call the audience out on the excuses. But it also doesn't need to because the reasoning has an intrinsic motivational value that won't wear off.

Good vid. Well done. I particularly like that you also include the point that your artistic skill development also carries over into your life skill and personal development. I've noticed throughout my life this phenomenom not only applies to art, but any personal interest we pursue that involves extending ourselves, through commitment and over time. I'm 51, and in short, have been drawing since I could hold a pencil. 'Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain' and 'Drawing on the Artist Within' are two very good resources for anyone who wants to really learn to accurately draw and reproduce what's before you, instead of drawing what your brain tricks you into habitually 'believing' is there. I bought my copies over 30 years ago now, but I'm pretty sure they'd still be around.

So relatable... I also never saw, nor still see, really, myself as a creative person. Always use the excuse of it being too late while simultaneously really wanting to learn how to draw... This video just hits right and I might have no option but to go grab a notebook, a couple pencils, and start doodling around. Thanks.

I teach my students how to draw different objects. It is good for them to learn. I’ve even had kids who were at first reluctant to try it find out that they are capable of doing it and they find themselves trying to improve. I know this will help them later in life for the reasons you’ve explained. Also the kids get a huge boost of encouragement and nothing makes me happier than to see them realize what they are capable of.

I'm 21, used to draw a lot as a kid, but because of school, I dropped out of it. Now I want to go back to drawing, I've lost all of my abilities, I need to learn back from scratch, but I'll try anyway. School really is your enemy when it comes to creativity. Having a lot of homeworks, people laughing at you for what you do, it's not something you can ignore with ease as a kid... I've been studying computers and stuff for almost 6 years now, and I still don't feel like I want to do that for a living, so I'll just try one thing after another until I find something I want to do, being good at it or not. Anyway, all of that to say, thank you for your comment, it gave me a bit of courage to not give up on myself yet. Also great vid, to that guy who made it.

I've always seen talent as some kind of illusion, like this magic trick everyone is impressed about. But behind that magic there is a complex net of factors, mechanisms, pulls, strings and gears that makes this magic feels "real" and "convincing" in some way. Same with talent. On first hand it looks like magic, but when you see behind you find this complex mechanism determined by a lot of factors: experience, practice, time spended, the pasion and dedication this person has for their particular activity. And, in a psychological matter, is even more fascinating than the "magic" "divine" or "gifted" (or whatever you want to call it) explanation. Talented people are facinating, same with normal people like us. We all are talented in some degree, all you have to do is take control of whatever passion you have, and push it with hard work, practice and most importantly, experience. And, if you don't find your passion yet, just be patient and don't stop searching. I know, is more easy tell things rather than do them. And, specially in the beginning, is even harder. The trick is remain persistent, and continue when you feel like trash and you aren't getting anywhere, just do it for the sake of doing it. Eventually, you will get somewhere if you don't quit.
