One of my favourite quotes from Nietzsche (from the 3rd essay in genealogy iirc) goes something like this: man would rather will nothingness than will nothing at all. That is, in nihilism and depression, we will ourselves into a catatonic state of hibernation, the lowest possible state of physical energy to sustain a painful and self-pitying wakefulness -- so strong is the power of our will that we are driven to kill ourselves rather than endure willing nothing at all. I am reminded of this insight everytime I impulsively entertain depressive or suicidal thoughts. Certainly, a creature whose will is strong enough to drive its body and spirit to death is a powerful one. And I say to myself, "if I am powerful enough to kill myself, I must also be powerful enough to live."

The Nietz's main theme is that most men live in fear and seek to comply. You see this most clearly in modern man's weakness in intersexual relations, how man responds to the pummeling he gets in divorce court, etc... the nietz would despise today's nice guy. Basically, I think Nietzsche encouraged us to get in touch with our inner power and work it out. Once we acknowledge our own power as something unique, then we work on our goals we're willing to achieve by using our same power. Our talents, skills, inclinations, or whatsoever must be worth discovering, and then putting into practice at the goals we set for ourselves, otherwise, we shall never realize what it's our purpose in life whereas we end up following the herd. Nietzsche called it "The moral of Servants"

I think the world learnt enough lessons from Nietzsche's idea. After he declared "God is dead", 20th century became the bloodiest century. Millions of people were enslaved and killed under the few "powerful" men. What kind of the society will it be if people are encouraged to be those powerful men? Nowadays the world elites are going to be those "powerful" men. They say we will have nothing (that means they will have everything) but will be happy. We will soon be enslaved by another powerful man. What shall we do? Go back to God! Love God and also love your neighbours. Do to others as you would have them do to you. That is the saving way. That is God's way. We are too far away from God for too long. God is never dead, Nietzsche is dead.

@@lighthouse3957 Nietzsche never meant the Will to Power was to exercise control over others. On the contrary, he called that "The Moral of the Weak". For Nietzsche the Will to Power was such a Reaffirmation to Life we all might do if we consider ourselves as Free Spirits. This Reaffirmation to Life consists of remaining optimistic towards every situation Life itself sets in our path. Whether a blessing or a disgrace it's a constant Say Yes to any of them, for if our Will to Power is strong, then we shall be able to overcome such a disgrace by activating our capacity to find creative solutions, or if we are blessed by the choices we have made, then we shall find the way to share them with the rest of the world, and make it a better place to live. For Nietzsche the Will to Power was a Free Spirit's characteristic which was able to overcome vicissitudes by turning into its own favor, and making them work for itself and for others, for that was how a Free Spirit honored Life. Nietzsche said "God is dead" because he tried to realize Modern Men did not have any need for religion. Rather, They believed in their own intellects as well as something concrete they themselves created. These Modern Men can be found in Politics, Business, Science, and generally speaking, in every manifest of human knowledge. Even in churches some preachers take God's Grace for granted, and make choices for themselves. They turn their Religion into Doctrinarism, and make their followers believe there is no other way to get Salvation from God, except they do whatever these same Preachers say to them. According to Nietzsche's Philosophy this kind of man who believes in his own Ego is called "The Last Man".

That is like trying to make you straight if you're gay. It is innate to the way your brain is and can not be changed. I have a hypothesis that true help for an addict is to embrace their addictive nature into something that is positive vs trying to supress what can't be. My experiences have shown me that when I'm in a difficult situation mentally, I find doing my work very therapeutic. Regardless of what the actual work is, as long as it's helping me improve myself and become better than I was before, working harder really does seem to put me in a better place mentally. I call this "work therapy ".

Sometimes you just have to cut people off from your life. I’ve done it a few times and it’s definitely worth it. Don’t waste your time on people that hold you back. You have to be ok with being uncomfortable and taking calculated risks. Some people are so afraid of losing that they never even try. Winners think that the opportunity cost of not even trying is the real loss. If you stay in your comfort zone then you’ll never grow and progress. It’s like a cycle of getting uncomfortable then you adapt. Push yourself out of your comfort zone again and you adapt again. Just don’t do anything dumb and risky that would be a huge setback and you’d never recover from. A lot of times being successful is the culmination of doing small things over a long period of time. Once you start to see success you’ll think…ok that worked. How can I get multiple times that result? Life changing success doesn’t happen overnight. It can easily take ten or more years. If you’re young then you better get started because once you’re old you’re pretty much fucked. You’ll be out of time by then. If you always do what you’ve always done then you’ll always get what you’ve always gotten.

I have never read Nietzsche before but I think he is right. In the case of suffering. I have had the misfortune to always be suffering. Ever since I was little.. later in my teens I developed severe auto immune disease that crippled me.. and also battled with bipolar depression. Until recently 4 years ago I went through a really rough patch mentally.. I really thought I was gonna have to just loose this fight. But one things that I found give me a more calm state and stable is being empowered. By knowledge and strength. being empowered I have notice give me more happiness. Especially with mental problems where I feel I have no control over my emotions. So what I now seek in this life is knowledge and strength. I always looking for ways to make my self more resilient against the battles of life. I always look to nature.. how animals and trees and all other especies have survive this nasty world. You have to be strong. And that is what I seek now. Strength power, Knowledge. Diet is key to strength.

Perfect presentation of Nietzche's concept of power. What was most appealing to me was that suffering is an integral part of power and an essential ingredient of power. After all, how Nietzche's concept of power is different from that of Machiavelli, the former believed in the self-overcoming concept of power, whereas the latter emphasized the ability to control and rule others. Interesting to know that Nietzche's concept of power is somehow identical to the notion of happiness in the Buddhist tradition which deals more with self-mastery and detachment from external distractions.

There are scholars who believe Machiavelli's The Prince was partly a critique of politics in the city that exiled him. A lot of the book describes different styles of government and their weaknesses. He rarely uses moral terms in the book but talks in pragmatic terms. Eg. Too much tyranny leads to revolt, etc. It isn't always straight-forward about what to do in a situation, but lays out various scenarios and their consequences based on the leader's preference.

Fluffy language might just be a misunderstanding of what is being articulated. One can only understand as deep as they have looked in themselves. I find myself sometimes doing something similar because it can be difficult too accept unconscious incompetence due to the adaptation of perceiving the inability to understand someone reasonates from the self over estimating the ability to comprehend suffice to say. when you don’t read tough books you can’t keep up with the mandatory pocket of understanding aleast 80% of what is being said which frustration sets in and resentment which turns into ditching the narrative and looking for a excuse to pass off the responsibility for the reason why you don’t understand when he starts using big words to be descriptive. This guy who makes these videos is smart enough to basically dumb it down and explain it in four letter words but in doing so your trapping yourself in the option of choosing pride rather then true humility which is what fosters curiosity. Try googling the words you don’t understand, i always do that and it really makes a difference. Am I making any sense right now? If not I’m sorry I tried to be as straightforward as possible from just seeing what I saw in your comment in regards to identifying the reasons for your struggles. I hope this makes sense and that I helped give a different perspective to the particular situation you’re in in regards to understanding the message being said. He’s not writting these for the herd to read as they will not understand it because their lacking the fundamentals somena knowledge to keep up with the books of his due to them being such high frequency of thought.

Living with the understanding that brings you to a place of peace of mind and generosity. You gain power in not seeking. Power is the result of living with kindness and gratitude in loving with respect and focused attention on what you love and need ❤ No reason for suffering when you don't seek energies that are materialistic or on comparisons or competing with others. Power is a result of love in actions that are beneficial and vital for the environment and the people who are given the chance to be equally successful and nurtured. Peace is a power. War is a process of insanity and the result of fear and helplessness. Power to the people of the world in understanding that we all are truly essential and powerful in our love for each other and the healing of our lives with kindness and compassion. we all have obstacles, hardships, painful times, grief, and other things that are happening in our lives that are extremely difficult to come to terms with. I know that you have the ability through strength and resilience to choose to live with gratitude and appreciation for the simple pleasures of being alive and learning from all of the situations that are happening in your life , We can choose to live with the focus on what is beneficial for the sake of our sanity and peace of mind that brings us into a relationship with truth and the way of being present and unafraid and discovering how to heal and to live accordingly with the love of life now as we are now regardless of the circumstances. Looking at everything with the awareness that there are many different positive things that are happening too.The power is in love. Simply being kind and gentle with ourselves and learning from each situation and responding in a place where we are truly gaining our own unique heart's knowledge and creativity through our lives with each breath and moment in our lives. Perseverance and flexibility are also very helpful for anyone who is going through a tough situation. Fear, worrying, anxiety and stress is not helpful for anyone. You have a splendid way of doing things that are beneficial and nurturing for your energies in honoring life with the flow of energies in love with exploration of options for your resolution of the situations. Trust in ourselves and continue to do things that are healthy and will align with the power to make the necessary changes that are required. Empowering yourself. Anyway, my question was about rationality in animals.... This subject was in part discussed by Eugene the Philostopher on his video "Relativity of Rationality"... Is power rational or irrational? Is it emotional then? Wouldn't humans become animals if they just look for power? And what about personal realization and Jung's Individuation process? Does it require power or SELF-POWER?

This video seeks to redefine “power” as something more akin to “personal development”, which although not the typical definition, is an accurate enough reading of Nietzsche. Meaning, purpose, understanding, knowledge, wisdom, truth, etc. are all worthy pursuits that will lead to personal development, which typically results in fulfillment and joy, as well as pleasure and power. Thus your point is for the most part quite in harmony with the message of this video. The advantage of your approach is primarily in anticipation of the typical, shallow definition of power by most listeners.

Men commonly deceive themselves in respect of the love which they imagine others bear them, nor can ever be sure of it until they have put it to the proof. The same is true for the reverse, we often suffer more in imagination than reality.

In the quest to live a good life, each of us, consciously or implicitly, chooses an ultimate value around which to orient our life. For many this value is wealth, for others it may be status, social-acceptance, happiness, pleasure, love, knowledge, or Comfort. Power - "the enhancement of a capacity or an activity already given." (Nietzsche's Values) As a few examples, an athlete who becomes stronger is increasing his power, as is the writer who improves her writing, the orator who sharpens his public speaking abilities, or the teacher who enhances her capacity to educate. "Power is "more life" not by its mere continuation, nor by its multiplication, but by life's being raised to a higher level of capacity and control;,..Power is transition to a higher level...a "self-overcoming". the point to my life is my growth or strengthening and [this] lies not merely in expanding but in ascending, which involves Overcoming previous states of myself." John Richardson, Nietzsche's Values to attain this power and the first step is to formulate a goal that fulfills 4 conditions. Firstly, the goal must be meaningful and challenging. Secondly, it must promote our health and well-being, or the well-being of others. Thirdly, it must be conducive to the attainment of personal excellence; and finally, must be self-chosen, or in other words, an expression of our individuality and authentic aspirations. "For what purpose humanity is there should not even concern us: why you are here, that you should ask yourself: and if you have no ready answer, then set for yourself goals, high and noble goals." Nietzsche, Unpublished Note We would have obstacles and resistances. "The will to power can only express itself against resistances; it seeks what resists it.. all expansion, incorporation, growth, is striving against something that resists. strong nature needs resistance; hence it seeks resistance. Nietzsche, The Will to Power the game of resistance and victory which consists of a "hindrance that is Overcome and immediately followed by another hindrance, that is again overcome", we will increase our power and eventually attain the goal we have and whatever it is we have become, created, or achieved, behind us, and set our sights on the next, greater, goal. "Whatever I create and however much love It, soon I must oppose it and my love; thus my will wills it."
