Even in the modern world I think most people do suffer, whether emotionally or physically, even those we think to be the most privileged. Not everyone learns from suffering, some even become addicted to suffering, and then their are those who suffer and die from said suffering. It can have great value, but I disagree with the theory that people are so different than they were in ages past, technology/the world changes people remain the same as they always were.

I wonder if Nietzsche was addicted to drugs or alcohol, what he described sounds like a cycle of addiction, two to three weeks on... then thirty six hours of withdrawal... then repeat. Just an observation, I'm probably wrong (I know Nietzsche claimed to be hardcore straight edge but should we believe him?) It also could have been bipolar disorder? IDK... I feel bad for the guy for sure

If life is suffering, if life is intrinsically unjust and unfair, than life is fundamentally flawed. If u believe God exist, he has made a inferior creation and his reasoning is it's all our fault and not his even though he is all knowing and created everything as an all knowing being. Life is suffering, but that is not justifiable even though it's true. Life should be perfect harmony, but unnecessarily it is not that. Unnecessarily, life is suffering.

  • @kenim

@@chasemanhattan9995you dont understand our history in the biblical perspective. The life that we know now is the life fallen away from God (what happened in Eden). Adam & Eve rejected the perfect form of creation fully governed by God and chose to choose for themselves. God on his part, permited this to happen so they and us, all of humanity could see how terrible life is apart from him, so we would go back to Him. We do this in micro form even to our children for them to learn who knows best whats good. But this period will pass away, and all that choose to go to Him through the completed work of our Lord Jesus Christ, will witness the perfect life as God intended for all eternity. This life and the eternity that is to come, is God showing us both sides of the coin.

Ya son of a bitch [Edit] Disclaimer: Unlike Neech, I do not wish suffering on any of you. That line above was in his unpublished notes so even he hesitated to say that out loud. I wish everyone peace, prosperity, good fortune. But when you do come across unavoidable suffering in your life, I hope you find the strength to bear it and move forward.

It's easy to forget, when reading Nietzsche, in how much pain he truly was throughout his life. Imagine being afflicted with migraines so intense they cause temporary blindness. Knowing that when you're feeling good, that's when you need to get your writing done, before another migraine attack makes it impossible. This is why he was able to write so much in such a short time; he was acutely aware of his limited time.

You alone know what my true needs are. You love me more than I myself know how to love. Help me to see my real needs which are concealed from me. I do not dare to ask for either a cross or for consolation. I can only wait on You. My heart is open to You. Visit me and help me, for the sake of your great mercy. Strike me and heal me; cast me down and raise me up. I worship in silence for Your holy will and Your unsearchable ways. I offer myself as a sacrifice to You. I have no other desire than to fulfill Your will. Teach me to pray. Pray Yourself in me.

Believe me, whilst suffering makes you grow, it does not promote health. I’ve been disabled for two years. Yeah it’s a journey. Intense pain that you couldn’t believe. But it doesn’t make you healthier. What’s being confused with is hardship, comfort and suffering, Hardship is fine. But most westerners in their comfort consider hardship suffering. You don’t know true suffering. Most westerners don’t suffer until they’re very very old, and their bodies start breaking down. But most westerners are like children. Hardship doesn’t make you grow. Only suffering does. Suffering changes you. You are metaphysically different..

Suffering can have different effects on different people, and whether it makes or breaks a person can depend on various factors such as their resilience, coping skills, support system, and the nature of the suffering itself. For some individuals, suffering can make them stronger, more empathetic, and more determined to overcome obstacles. It can teach them valuable life lessons and help them develop a deeper sense of meaning and purpose in life. Suffering can also lead some people to seek out new experiences, relationships, or ways of thinking that they may not have explored otherwise. On the other hand, suffering can also break some individuals, leading to negative outcomes such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), addiction, or even suicide. This can be especially true if the suffering is chronic, severe, or occurs during a vulnerable period of a person's life. It's essential to acknowledge that everyone's experiences with suffering are unique, and it's not always possible to predict how a person will respond to it. It's crucial to seek help from mental health professionals or other support systems if you or someone you know is struggling with the effects of suffering.

It can, but it doesn't have to. Perspective is everything. It's like being lost in a forest and realizing with a different vantage point you can see over the trees and get yourself on a new path, even though from where you currently are it's not entirely clear. Or, navigating a maze that's so dark you can't see the path or the walls. Every maze has only two walls, if you follow one of them with your hand, you will eventually find the exit. It's about identifying whatever information is available and making the best use of it. When your will is broken you have resigned to taking all information from that which inflicts your suffering; you have decided you are not in control. If you follow that principle, the only outcome left is death or madness.

One of my favorite quotes from Charles Kingsley's "The Heros" "'I am Pallas Athene; and I know the thoughts of all men's hearts, and discern their manhood or their baseness. And from the souls of clay I turn away, and they are blest, but not by me. They fatten at ease, like sheep in the pasture, and eat what they did not sow, like oxen in the stall. They grow and spread, like the gourd along the ground; but, like the gourd, they give no shade to the traveller, and when they are ripe death gathers them, and they go down unloved into hell, and their name vanishes out of the land. 'But to the souls of fire I give more fire, and to those who are manful I give a might more than man's. These are the heroes, the sons of the Immortals, who are blest, but not like the souls of clay. For I drive them forth by strange paths, Perseus, that they may fight the Titans and the monsters, the enemies of Gods and men. Through doubt and need, danger and battle, I drive them; and some of them are slain in the flower of youth, no man knows when or where; and some of them win noble names, and a fair and green old age; but what will be their latter end I know not, and none, save Zeus, the father of Gods and men. Tell me now, Perseus, which of these two sorts of men seem to you more blest?'

You know even though I'll be turning 35 soon I still think of myself as a cowardly person, I'm not where I want to be or have the things I want in life, that so many others have achieved because of fear. This video has given me an insight that in not facing my fears; rejection from the opposite sex, jobs, denying myself the right to suffer and instead stay comfy (which can be suffering in and of itself), makes a person metally weaker. This is evident in my own avoident milktoast mentality and numbing myself, with so many senseless, instant gratification KZread videos. I'm reading a book on how to change perspective on beliefs and therefore suffering, in order to become an emotionally balanced and stronger person. To every man, woman and children out there I pray for your suffering to see you through. "To progress again, man must remake himself. And he cannot remake himself without suffering. Whether they help people succeed in the workspace only to be backstabbed and fired by that same person, or betrayed by a partner who they truly loved and sacrificed for, it's hard to ever come back from that abyss. As horrible as those scenarios are, they are simply a test of life. Nobody owns or has the ability to manipulate your emotions, except for yourself. The key is to learn to master your emotions during trying times. This can be done by first applying understanding, acceptance & forgiveness. Those that wrong you are at a different stage of their life journey. Understand that we are all different and we do wrong. Accept that you are not in control of other people's behaviour & will always be at the mercy of it. Accept that these things have happened, that they do not feel good. Accept & allow time for yourself to work through the pain. Forgive, knowing that the person who wronged you is responsible for their own karmic debts, and wish them better for their life. This is a great test of strength. We build character through trying scenarios such as these. Don't run from your hurt by adopting a victim mentality. That's simply delaying and prolonging your own suffering. Embrace it, work through your emotions and grow stronger and wiser. These are the tests of life. Life is imperfectly perfect.

Even though suffering is an inevitable path of life and what makes us strong, trauma create the exact opposite and brings out the worse of people, many of the mental illnesses we see today comes from trauma, that is, negative experiences that people faces that their minds just can't endure, it is not because you want someone to "grow up" that you should just brush aside their feelings, treat them as if they are worthless, humiliate them and worse abuse them, just so that they will experience "hardship" that is not wanting someone to grow but in the contrary want to destroy them.

I reached out for my phone to find distraction, in this forrest of torture that i was crossing once again. The title caught my attention, as i have been hearing about this idea of a possitive outlook on suffering, especially in reference to, by now, ancient times. Like a shining light descending from the black sky, these words gave me hope that i have not known yet. With every second sentence it came closer until it reached me. I will keep this white orb with me until the moment i pass away, be it once again in a wasteland of madness, or in a heavenly garden. I am still marching through these blackend woods of pain, the only difference, a new companion of strength and hope. I cried. Not tears of suffering, but of seing suffering as it truly is.

In those irrational and dark moments it can be easy to say "what's the point" until you think outside of yourself just for a moment, in whatever way you can, whether through watching a video like this or with the help of a friend giving that rational advice, and you will be able to view things from a different and hopefully bigger perspective.

Thank you AoI, the presentations that you do always spark significant and profound thought within me, and I leave empowered to take the influx of ideas back to my own audience. Always been a huge inspiration for me, hope to one day have the opportunity to pick your brain. My thoughts below: We don't experience stress for no reason - it is a vital part of our body's natural defense system. It proactively keeps us out of trouble. Suffering is the aggregate of stress experienced by the body over time, and it once we are relieved of it, we never ever forget. It is an incredibly powerful tool to keep us motivated to never ever get into a situation wherein we experience suffering again. But the trouble comes when we experience suffering that we have no control over. Suffering from things that we do not have control over is tragedy. And in these situations, we can only learn to better manage the hardship. As you rightfully pointed out, if we have the strength to overcome _significant_ suffering, we can become unstoppable.

Can being the operative word here. I have suffered my entire life and I am neither strong nor healthy. I wonder whether this idea of suffering isn't just a conditioned element of human conditioning.

I'm happy for normal people who are suffering since they could deal with the challenges and turn into a better being while for those who are clinically diagnosed with disorder and diseases that aren't really that curable and is heavily demanding of support from others. Go people who are suffering without such issues, you have the potential to become heroes for the suffering

Thanks for making these videos AOI, sorry I'm such a "yeah but", and sorry about times when my criticism has gone beyond philosophical and gotten personal and idiotic, I'm a deeply sceptical person but that doesn't excuse being mean. I'm trying to get better about assumptions and projections but they're always there, and bottom line is I say alot of stupid stuff, but it helps me learn from my mistakes and so does learning about prospectives different than my own. Thanks 👍🖖

I've always spoken in favor of some suffering, pain or discomfort, enduring and persevering through hardships and struggles, to me those experiences enrich life and enhance ones sense of self, it makes everything in the world all the more sweet and lovely, oddly enough. My partner is the opposite, he seeks nothing but pleasure and satisfaction, believes the world and people should only ever be happy and elated, that pain or suffering is unnecessary and "dumb". He runs from the uncomfortable or even just mundane/boring life experiences and challenges through alcohol and pure resistance/denial. idk if a marriage between a hedonist and a stoic is foreseeable, but we'll see....

I don't believe it to bode well when a man should act this way. Scripture teaches the man should lead in Christ (treating everyone the way you wish to be treated, even to those who wrong you), and Jordan Peterson emphasized that in nature, men are orderly and logical while women are chaotic who make decisions based on emotions. Though I do believe disciplined, experienced women make great advisors and make themselves presentable to their partners and in public just as men do too. Perhaps, be the advisor here and tell him what you would appreciate him growing into. A true test to see if he has the capabilities of being molded into a better man. My fiancée is like him and it takes me "suffering" to try and teach her the errors of her ways. Arguments arise sometimes and I have to give tough love. She does teach me with better language, settling my outbursts, giving me motivational drive, become more outspoken, and have more empathy. I fall prey to addictions as well as her but I do try to lead us and make logical decisions for our future seeing how the struggles these days are becoming harder. She has already decided without me asking to let me take financial control of our marriage. Her upbringing was sheltered, spoiled, and anxiety-induced and does have some mental diagnoses that effects her to be this way. But I love her and she and I work pretty well at building up together. I pray you two grow, beat the heavy odds of "breaking up/divorce," and succeed as well. 🙏

You may balance each other out. It could be a "match made in heaven." But be cautious about his recreational alcohol/drug intake. If he's an addict, than you two definitely have some hardships and suffering to (hopefully) confront and overcome in the future.

Thankyou for these videos, it is motivation to get well. In my own experience the way out of suffering is through it. I've been present with the grief, the loss, the anger when I feel them come up and must continue to do so to dissolve and release the pain. Verbal ventilation and therapeutic letters helps move the feelings out of the body. To anyone who may read this and feel stuck - you can do it! I asked for help and now regularly see a counsellor which has saved my mind and my life.
